Students enrolled at K-12 schools in Michigan would be allowed to take medical marijuana and CBD-infused products under new legislation introduced last week.

The bill, introduced by Democratic representatives in the Michigan House last week, would make it legal for students to ingest edibles, beverages, and other products with low amounts of marijuana while on school grounds or on a school bus.

A designated staff member would be authorized to administer the product. Those allowed to ingest would have written permission that specifies when it can be administered and who can receive it. Such examples include rescue medication to relieve or prevent symptoms.

The goal would be to expand student access to medical marijuana if the pupil is qualified to receive the substance.

It's the latest example of how the state is adapting its policy to better fit the landscape of drugs that are both legal and not legal in Michigan. Another bill introduced in September seeks to decriminalize psychedelic plants.

It also updated its drug-testing policy for some new-hires this month.

It also specifies instructions for transporting and storing the product, directing it to be treated like the pupils' other medications.

Medical marijuana was legalized in Michigan in 2008. The state legalized recreational pot for adult use in 2019.

Im all for weed legalization, especially decriminalization but this seems to be a bridge too far for me. Passing a UA that tests for weed should not be a condition of employment for most jobs.

Im open to hearing more about the benefits and studies conducted that led to this approval of essentially prescribing kids marijuana.

Im also not blind to the fact that kids can be exposed to second hand weed smoke at a very early age. Hell sometimes they start smoking weed in grade school. Just seems like a slippery slope and I'd cautious as hell if not outright hostile to someone suggesting my child should be prescribed marijuana.

Im going to be pissed if they start this shit with a pilot program in Detroit, Flint or Lansing.

"ingest edibles, beverages, and other products with low amounts of marijuana while on school grounds or on a school bus" I don't think they'd approve smoke products, still it's a slippery slope until some preteen gets high and the parents and the law are on trial.

Wait.....WHAT?!

we are at the end of days...
So most of you have no problems with kids being given amphetamines, lithium, benzos, ECT on a daily basis, but a natural plant that can help several of the issues those harsh addictive chemicals are prescribed for is too far? Lmao sounds logical

did any of us say we're cool with this either??

the underlying problems are the same.. no one us truly looking out for the children. the entire 'system' is rife with abuse and this will not end well.

I don't see anyone making threads and getting in hysterics about all those drugs, the truth is cannabis can actually be helpful for a range of issues yet it's vilified and on the other hand those man made death sentences are accepted and given out like Skittles.

It's being smoked on and off campus anyways sooooo and some student is selling it.

But I don't think they should legalize it

I don't disagree with you. As was said by another poster, I'm also just saying that this is a slippery slope.
