WASHINGTON, Aug 15 (Reuters) - Former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows filed notice on Tuesday seeking to move a case brought against him by the district attorney in Georgia's Fulton County to federal court, according to a court document.
Meadows, who served in the Trump administration, was among those charged with former U.S. President Donald Trump for trying to overturn his 2020 election defeat to Democrat Joe Biden.

Laughingly, CNBC reports that Trump gave them a “verbal handshake” to pay them in full.

The CNBC report continues, “Matthew Morgan, an election lawyer for the Trump campaign, recalled to the House select committee in 2022 that Giuliani requested $20,000 a day from the Trump political operation to fight the election results. Working five days a week for two months, November and December of 2020, this would have amounted to around $800,000 in legal fees. But Giuliani never got it.”
The best part about this story is not only that some of the most corrupt lawyers in America got stiffed, but also that, by stiffing his own lawyers, Trump only helped dig his very own political grave.

According to Greg Bluestein, local political operatives in Georgia are buzzing with speculation that Trump might surrender to authorities during the Republican primary debate next Wednesday to steal the other candidates' thunder.
Trump has already announced that he will not participate in the debate — not surprising given the fact that he is a complete coward — but he also hates to see his enemies get free publicity.
He has until Friday, August 25th at noon to surrender. Doing it during the debate would likely force many of the networks to switch their coverage from the debate to Trump.
"He is going to have to show up at the Fulton County jail between now and next Friday at noon. My hunch is he's not going to go under the cover of night," said Bluestein.
"And I know you mentioned at the top of the show there's a chance he could do it on debate day next Wednesday, and that's what the political minds here in Georgia are all talking about — the possibility that he could do counter-programming to the debate," he added.
He went on to describe the Fulton County jail as a "not not a place you'd wish upon even one of your worst enemies" and infested with bedbugs so he doesn't "expect Donald Trump to spend much time" there.

“It’s a fairy tale to think that’s going to happen,” Moore told CNN. “I think it’s just a PR move and she has no real belief this case will be ready in March.”

In a 41-count indictment unsealed Monday, Willis, a Democrat, accused the 19 defendants of being part of a broad criminal conspiracy to attempt to overturn the 2020 election result in Georgia. At the heart of the case is Georgia’s RICO law, which Willis brought against all of the defendants, alleging they broke that state law and others as they attempted to reverse the election results.
Prosecutors say the criminal actions the RICO charge is built around include: making false statements, filing false documents and forgeries, impersonating officials, computer breaches and attempts to influence witnesses.
Willis has given the defendants until August 25 at noon to voluntarily surrender.

Rudy Giuliani's indictment on a racketeering charge has New York City mafiosos gleeful at the prospect that, if convicted, the former federal prosecutor could be brought down by the same law he wielded against La Cosa Nostra.
Veteran mob lawyer Murray Richman told The Messenger that he's "spoken to several of my clients" since Giuliani, former President Donald Trump and 17 co-defendants were charged with violating Georgia's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.
"You can quote me to say, 'They're f------ thrilled,'" Richman said Wednesday.
"I don’t want to say the language, but they really ripped Rudy a new a------."
Richman noted that "half of these guys love Trump. They freaking love Trump."
"But all of them are almost unified in their position of hating f------ Rudy," he said.
Richman's mob clients have included the late Lucchese family boss Carmine "Mr. Gribbs" Tramunti and Dominick "Big Trin" Trinchera, a Bonnano family capo who was killed with two others during a 1981 power struggle.
Meanwhile, defense lawyer Jeffrey Lichtman, who scored a 2005 hung jury for Gambino crime family scion John "Junior" Gotti, told The Messenger, "All of my clients who had the misfortune of being prosecuted by him are laughing now. As am I."
“I’m thrilled that Rudy will now experience what it feels like to be on the wrong end of a RICO prosecution — with a mandatory five years in prison facing him," Lichtman said.
"It’s not just an ironic result but it’s a just result. He was a horribly dishonest prosecutor and the wheel of karma is about to crush him," Lichtman opined.
Civil rights lawyer Ron Kuby, who represented reputed Gambino associate Stephen "Sigmund the Sea Monster" Sergio during the 1990s, said he hadn't spoken with any "alleged members of organized crime" since Giuliani was indicted.
"I have noted the reactions from some family members of alleged organized crime people, and they are thrilled and delighted," he said.
Kuby also said he wanted to call Monday's indictment, which alleges a sprawling conspiracy to illegally overturn Trump's 2020 election loss in Georgia, "a sad day in America" but couldn't keep himself from laughing.
"I will spare you the fake sanctimony," he said.
"It is just delightful to watch the guy who expanded RICO prosecutions well beyond their original intent, and did so grasping for the biggest headlines, to watch him be indicted by the very law that he championed."

On Monday Trump and 18 of his associates were charged by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis over claims they broke the law while trying to block President Joe Biden's 2020 election victory in Georgia. Trump has strongly denied any wrongdoing, with his legal team describing the allegations as "flawed and unconstitutional" in a statement.
Ellis has been charged with two counts, one of solicitation of violation of oath by public officer and the other of violating Georgia's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, which was introduced to fight organized crime and carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.
In response to the allegations against her Ellis tweeted: "The Democrats and the Fulton County DA are criminalizing the practice of law. I am resolved to trust the Lord and I will simply continue to honor, praise, and serve Him. I deeply appreciate all of my friends who have reached out offering encouragement and support."
Ellis has made no mention of being financially cut off by Trump due to her support for DeSantis. However, John Cardillo, a DeSantis-supporting conservative influencer, claimed she had.
Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, he said: "Just found out from very solid sources that Trump's PAC won't assist Jenna Ellis with one penny of legal fees because she has been complimentary and supportive of DeSantis.
"So you can spend nearly a decade being unwaveringly loyal to Trump then get indicted because you worked for him, and he will abandon you and force you into bankruptcy if you change your mind about the best direction for the country. There is nothing remotely loyal or patriotic about that."
Laura Loomer, a pro-Trump commentator with more than 493,000 followers on X, also suggested "professional liar and Trump backstabber" Ellis was not receiving financial support due to her refusal to back the former president in the 2024 race.
Addressing Ellis, she wrote: "You didn't stay loyal to President Trump, and now you're going to learn the hard way by having to pay for your own legal fees. Next time try being loyal to the people who brought you to the dance, and you won't have such big problems."
Newsweek approached Ellis and Trump for comment, via email and online press inquiry form respectively, at 5:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday. This article will be updated if any reply is received.
On Tuesday, Ellis appealed for donations to her legal fund on GiveSendGo, a Christian crowdfunding website.
