I wonder if they are legal?

Cash option is estimated at $558 Mil, divide that by 3,000....its about $186K.....plus you gotta pay city taxes which can be upto like 4%....

So roughly $180K each, if they had won....which is not bad, but damn it was $1.08 Billy
Ok yeah I didn't feel like doing the math lol...that is low I was thinking close to 300k each

Tax man said you mean Cali has a new multi millionaire cause we gonna sure take a half a billy off taxes alone

LOS ANGELES (Gray News) – A man who won a record-breaking sum of money in a Powerball drawing recently spent a portion of his winnings on a mansion in Los Angeles.
On Feb. 14, the California Lottery announced Edwin Castro as the only winner of the $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot. Castro had bought the ticket at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena, an area just north of Los Angeles, ahead of the November drawing. The winning ticket matched all five numbers as well as the Powerball.
According to the lottery, Castro took a lump sum of $997.7 million before taxes. Less than a month after winning, the L.A. Times reported he spent a little more than 2.5% of his winnings on a new house in Hollywood Hills.
A Zillow listing shows the home was built just last year and sold on March 1 of this year.

The house is three stories tall and has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms, according to the listing. Features include a private balcony, a spa, an infinity pool, two fire pits and a built-in barbecue area. Additionally, the mansion includes a movie theater, wine cellar, game room, bar, fitness studio, dry sauna and steam shower.

For parking, the house has an upper two car garage and more than seven gated off street spots along with a five-car showroom.
The property is about half an acre.

Castro declined to be interviewed by the California Lottery, but did say he was “shocked and ecstatic.” He also said he wanted to recognize the California public education system, which received $156.3 million from the jackpot, according to lottery officials.

“As someone who received the rewards of being educated in the California public education system, it’s gratifying to hear that, as a result of my win, the California school system greatly benefits as well,” he said in a statement sent to the California Lottery.

I'm not sure what the laws are in California but do you have the option to remain anonymous there when it comes to collecting lottery winnings.

I don't think it's her.
No sane person in their right mind would show up alone to a store filled with rabid camera crew and news media reporters desperate for a scoop,
Also every unabashed beggar with a sob story hoping to play on her sympathy for altruistic rewards will be looming in and around that store.
With practically every big jackpot winning ticket there is always some crackpot or yahoo that claims to be the winner and they're not.

definitely hispanic. that area is all shops and such with a heavy hispanic clientele.
the lady that came in...there are a lot of unbalanced folks from skid row which is nearby. most likely she saw it as her opportunity to get some 15 minute shine and took advantage of it. who goes on tv and says 'i'm the billionaire'?

as far as claiming the prize, i think winners have a year to claim. at some point name must be revealed [logic is otherwise people will claim the lottery is fixed and won't buy tickets], but they can claim in the name of a trust or something similar.

Damn if that person who won is on skid row they will be dead within a year.

A bunch of people on Skid Row going to be asking Castro if they could stay at his house for a while...

Bama does not have a lottery
No they probably paid people in Alabama to keep the lottery out of Alabama. But we mainly go to Georgia to get our tickets. Some people in Alabama get their tickets from Florida. But every time the powerball and mega millions get high the state line stores are packed with people from Georgia and Alabama just for somebody from another state to win it. Almost like slavery money from the south was invested in other states.
