A suspect is in custody in the Gilgo Beach murders on Long Island in New York, a law enforcement official and two government officials said today, a case that baffled investigators and captured the country's attention for more than a decade.
The suspect has been identified as Rex Heuermann, 59, four senior law enforcement officials briefed on the case said.
The Suffolk County police and the Suffolk County district attorney are leading the investigation. Those offices declined to comment.

The Long Island man busted for the notorious Gilgo Beach murders is an architect who calls himself a “troubleshooter” working alongside New York City’s Department of Buildings. Rex Heuermann, 59, was busted by a special task force focusing on the murders, numerous sources told The Post on Friday as cops swarmed his home in Massapequa Park. He had been on the radar of the special Gilgo Beach Homicide Investigation Task Force for at least a year — and was arrested after being linked by DNA, one source said. Heuermann is the president of his own Fifth Avenue-based company, RH Architecture Design, which he’s had since 1994 — six years before the Long Island murders. “I’m a troubleshooter born and raised on Long Island,” the portly, dark-haired architect told a French YouTuber last year.

Some of the other bodies weren't found on Gilgo Beach so he was renamed by others. What's scary is, what if they're two different people?
Yeah. And when they found those bodies they ended up finding other bodies that dated back to the 90s. Crazy shit. He's only being charged for three of them right now but they're close to charging him with a fourth.
I think BTK wanted to be caught for some reason. But as usual he was perceived as no threat and safe so that’s how he killed them all. The white serial killers are always seen as harmless. They always have some sort of high position in society.

NY doesn't have the death penalty so he may not have any incentive to cop to them all like Gary Ridgway. He copped to everything, including shit they didn't know, to avoid the death penalty. But I hope he does to give families some closure.

slight exaggeration - the criminal complaint states they didn't get a complete sample from the pizza but will now get a sample and hair from him to possibly connect him to a 4th victim along with confirming the previous tests
imo the strongest evidence they had up to now was the collective cell tower data that places his personal phone and the burners in the same locations at the same times in LI, NYC and across state lines - the dna they were able to match was the clincher
