Wegmans shopping cart!!!! Woah!!!!

How does it work? Do all the price tags have something readable electronically embedded in them?

Shitload of cameras that are able to read all the tags on them plus sense movement.. I’ve posted multiple vids on these stores yrs ago when they first came to nyc.. it was really about eliminating jobs and trying to do without cash.. which is a double no no… if I remember though nyc consumers gave them shit about trying to eliminate the ability to pay cash and I believe Amazon gave in and allowed a cash option

I know all about the process that some jobs were created making that shit.. but at the end of the day it’s thousands maybe 5 figs or more supermarkets/ retail stores across the nation that have multiple employees in them.. these carts will eliminate thousands to maybe ten thousands of jobs across the nation.. there won’t be more jobs created making this than lost.. big biz dosent pay more to get rid of less.. they willing to pay a couple hundred thousand to save 10s of millions( aka daily employees)

Quality over quantity.

Better to have jobs where you can actually make a living than numerous struggle occupations. You have to constantly market yourself and make forward progress. I just named a few of the many jobs those carts created and all of them, in addition to the many I didn't name, pay a liveable wage.

You must learn to crawl b4 you learn to walk… many people wouldn’t learn how to walk without learning how to strengthen their legs and maneuvering thanks to crawling…. Those jobs you look down on has employed many individuals that would be completely broke without them, it also gave lots of experience to many people who never had one, it also showed people how to be humble and strive for more who eventually went on to better careers, also people that have lost their other jobs were able to jump on those jobs for the time being until they found a better situation, also these jobs can create money to be used to flip for something better.. it’s always great to have some of these easier to get jobs for many reasons when you think of the overall population… it’s better to give the whole population whiting instead of giving a select few salmon and letting the rest starve.. a human understands that a corporation or greedy person dosent

Prime example of A.I. replacing people.

Technology doesn't eliminate all jobs. It just relocates them somewhere else. Those Smart carts will need maintenance; the software and the servers have to be tended to. The cashier jobs become IT jobs.

I had this idea 10 years ago. I called it the “Cart-culator”

I have no idea how you patent these things or even how to pass along ideas. I’ve since come up with 3-4 more good ones just living in my head.

Any help?

It's easy. Problem lies when you need a worldwide patent
It's upwards of 3 Million dollars. If you don't get one ANY other country
can manufacture and sell the same product/idea

Also a way for companies to cut back on human workers.. no cashier needed means less people to hire.. so even though it sounds like a cool idea it’s a strategic way to cut out the common man to have a job opportunity
Until a cat like me blocks the signal or changes the price in the code and walk out with $800 worth of wagu for $60 bucks

I can understand that and I definitely don't look down on those jobs because I've done a few of them at some point in my life. If you have one of those jobs, I think you should have something else going on also. Be a cashier and be doing something else to better yourself. Not just that full time. No one should count one of these kinds of jobs as their door easy to make a living.

But again, I see where you are coming from.

great ideas for stores that can invest in it and with a smaller footprint. putting these in a walmart or target would be a headache . guess they'll have to hire more people to keep the buggy corrals from getting overflowed. invest in more people to do monthly maintenance on like 200 carts lol. wrong cities these buggies will be in somebodies yard....lol. it looks like it'll help theft and inventory management. it seems like once you start adding to the cart.... you are locked to that cart. so whatever good or bad goes on can be traced back to you.

Thank you. Frustrating to know a million dollar idea would cost 3 million to keep from being outsourced. Makes me wonder what’s the point of having a good idea. Saw a man on my timeline with a remote controlled lawnmower he made himself but wasn’t getting paid for it.

All the additional wireless access points, updates to the cart, and maintaining it. They might have less workers but the people they hire for this shit won't be cheap.

I think they can find solutions to some of the world's issues, perhaps a quicker cancer cure, with the emergence of quantum computers and AI becoming smarter every day, you can only hope.

It won’t cost them as much as having all those cashiers… so way less employed people and their budget is still cheaper.. win win for big bizz

I dont shop there either..but it aint doing well.. they have halted opening stores n also closing stores...
Ok. Guess the concept didn’t pan out.. cash is king in nyc so I already see certain demographics not fucking with it.. plus to me nothing was spectacular about the store that made you want to shop there other than the gimmick of not going to a cashier.. got to have more than that if you want to standout or gain an audience to come through with all the competition of diff stores here in nyc

Yep.. same here... sometimes these things work out it just aint the right time now... like u said especially that being the only shopping difference!

I think developing an app similar to Walmart/Sam's Club's scan and go makes more sense because pretty much everyone has a smart phone. That would save having to buy new high tech carts every couple of years.
