A graduate of The Philadelphia High School for Girls was denied her diploma by the school’s principal as she danced across the stage during the school’s commencement ceremony on June 9.
Hafsah Abdur-Rahman, 17, overly ecstatic about graduating, was captured dancing with a bouquet in hand as she made her way to collect her diploma in front of her family and friends, receiving a light chuckle from the crowd.
When the teen reached out to claim her diploma, Principal Lisa Mesi seemingly waved her away, not allowing the teen to walk off with the degree.
“She stole that moment from me,” Abdur-Rahman told ABC 6. “I will never get that again.”
“I was so embarrassed. I couldn’t even enjoy the rest of the graduation.”

Mesi had warned families of her students prior to the ceremony that cheering and clapping while their loved ones walked across the stage was forbidden at the graduation.

The teen said Mesi told her she could not receive her diploma due to the audience’s sublet laughs.
“I understood the rules because I was saying ‘shh’ in the video. Do not say nothing because I want my diploma. I knew and understood what we were supposed to do,” Abdur-Rahman told the outlet.
Abdur-Rahman and her family believe she was targeted since other girls blew kisses and waved as they walked the stage, they told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Abdur-Rahman’s family said they remained quiet as she strutted across the stage, not wanting anything to tamper with her special moment, claiming she was being penalized for others’ reactions in the crowd.
“With the climate in the city of Philadelphia, these kids have lost so much,” Renee Haniyah Reid, Abdul-Rahman’s grandmother, told the outlet. “The dynamics have changed. And my granddaughter wants to be an entrepreneur; if she’s not going to college, this was her last walk. They told me, ‘Oh, well, she’ll get over it.’”
In an even stranger twist, the teen told the outlet that the assistant principal even instructed students to walk to get their degree with style to collect their degree.

“If they thought that I shouldn’t do ‘The Griddy’ across the stage and do the Girls’ High traditions, nobody should have been able to wave or blow kisses or do period signs because I feel like that’s the same thing. I feel like that’s unfair,” she proclaimed to ABC 6.
The teen said three other girls were not given their diplomas during the ceremony due to cheers and murmuring from audience members.
All three girls were handed their degrees after the ceremony.
The Philadelphia High School for Girls is a college preparatory school that was founded in 1848.

What do you think? Post a comment.
“The District does not condone the withholding of earned diplomas based on family members cheering for their graduates. We apologize to all the families and graduates who were impacted and are further looking into this matter to avoid it happening in the future,” the school said in a statement to the outlet.
The assistant superintendent of the school contacted Abdur-Rahman following the ceremony to apologize to her and her mother for the principal ruining what was meant to be a cherished day in the young teen’s life.

Hmmmmmm, She KNEW the rules and broke them anyway.......... I mean SHE KNEW the rules and BROKE them anyway for notoriety... She said that she was embarrassed, sooo, she BROKE the rules and wasn't embarrassed then? Anyway, she was going to get her diploma, that was just a ceremony, she met all the requirements.

Fuck that cac.. fat bitch mad if she moved like that she’d have a heart attack and would die.. that shit was so fucking minimum.. you would’ve thought this chick did a 5 minute river dance the way the cac reacted.. hell lil chick look like she was about to trip or checking to see if she was stepping on her dress, that’s how quick and unnoticeable it was

Why did she need to dance, though?
Cause since the beginning of time black people having been celebrating happy moments.. it is tradition and in our dna.. we are not rythmless cave dwellers with no souls who are miserable individuals that only scavenge and cause chaos.. black people are naturally uplifting, happy, and celebratory.. the soulless cac was mad that the young lady was actually human and happy, that bitter bitch did what her ancestors have done sense the beginning of their time stop happiness

A ninjas threw up a gang sign at my niece’s graduation few weeks ago. It wasn’t obvious if you don’t know it but it was some Ja Morant shit.

Rules are rules. Don’t show up other students. Ninjas amaze em always bucking simple rules. They announced at my nieces’ graduation to celebrate loud and hard as you want, but don’t yell over the next students name. Base level class shit. There’s always a few that took it too far. “Quintaviosis Jenkins…” that ninjas was..

His family was deep, and they yelled loooooooong as fuck.
It was residual “YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
She tried to move on “Stephanie W—
TAVIOUUUUUUUUUS!!!!

Man, time and place. She could've done that same dance at the graduation party, and it would've been a non-issue.

If I'm reading correctly, she knew it was against the rules and chose to dance, anyway.

Come on, man.

That girl was attention-whoring. She could've waited for a more appropriate time.

And that soulless bitch could’ve just past her diploma real quick and called it a day and this would be no story.. she dosent have to see that kid again and she could continue being that fat fucking hideous soulless creature she sees in the mirror everyday

Alright, man.

I'm not losing sleep over any of this, anyway. You said what you said.

 The beef in this thread is hilarious. You’re both right. Fact of the matter is that’s been a rule since I graduated in the 80’s. Graduating is the next step in life; it’s maturity, growth—the real world. By giving kids rules to follow is both a lesson and test. The next phase of life isn’t a fucking game. You don’t make the rules. The speed limit is 35 mph every fucking where in America. A cop CAN ding you for 37 if he wanted to. Should he? Nope! Would he? Maybe if it’s 22 in a 20 mph school zone; then that 2 mph matters. Bottom line is she did break the rules, it was excessive, immature and disruptive. She knew not to do it. There’s no way it’s not in writing. She’ll get it in a few days and think about the next phase of her life where when she’s asked or told to do something. She’ll be telling her boss 8:01 ain’t THAT late.

Similar thing happened to me when I graduated. When we threw our hats couple of buddies of mine shot silly string in the air. Now keep in mind, there are 1.5 black people in this group that did it. Me being the only full black got my diploma withheld by the black principal. Didn't have smoke for the white/Jewish kids that did the same shyt or the black kid that was passing, ONLY me!

Of ALL the things people do in celebration DANCING across the stage is what gets your ire? A child doing a SLIGHT dance? I get it if she pulled off the dance routine for Pull Up to my Bumper across the stage, she was doing the Griddy without doing the Griddy.

I get it rules are rules are rules, but all of a sudden we no longer give grace to people? We no longer give empathy to people? 30min late to work and your boss is yelling at you like you took a day without telling anyone! We always want grace for shyt we do, but somebody else; 'GET 'EM OUT OF HERE!!!!! THEY BROKE THE RULES!!!!' Cop stops you:
Cop: "I got you going 10 over."
You: "I was making a lane change in the fast lane!?"
Cop: "Ehh, you were driving erratically and now you have admitted to the speeding. Get out of the car. STOP RESISTING!"

Philadelphia will riot over the Eagles winning the Super Bowl, but that same city people find it alright to deny a girl doing the faintest of dances across the stage for her graduation...what kind of shytty scene of Footloose is this?!?!?! But I guess if she ate horse shyt the principal wouldn't have had a problem with that.

Also most of these girls have hear wraps on, so this leads me to believe that this is not a predominantly Christian school. The fcuk is this white woman doing here?!?!? You can do your "missionary" work somewhere where the people look like you! "If you want your diploma you have to act like Jesus would if he were accepting his diploma..."

That wasn't dancing. This is dancing:

They need to have rules or things would get outta hand, like when I grad a bunch of people had a loud horn, party poppers, whistles and some more shit and they threaten to end it if they did it anymore.

Grad high school was a big deal for blacks back in the days cause so many of us didn't do it but now in 2023 it's important cause of what it represents more than what having a diploma can provide you. You're grown now welcome to the real world....low paying jobs are awaiting if you're not going on further than that.

Don't they hand out symbolic "diplomas" at high school graduations anyway? I've been out of high school for a few decades, but we received rolled up pieces of paper.
My grandson had his real diploma two days before graduation, but anyone want to bet if she was a cac would we see the same results

Rules are rules. This one has been in place for decades. Decorum. This is a parental and student failure. Go to that school—obey those rules. Work at the job—obey the rules or quit. Kids need to understand that each new stage in life requires conformity. College, job, relationships all require adaptation. Weddings, funerals, etc, there are written and unwritten rules. Your phone rings at wedding or funeral, you are the lowest of the low. Rules. No phones or mute em. “I forgot” or “Nobody told me!” is bullshit. They KNEW about the excessive celebration rule. :smh: They did it anyway.

Decorum is different from school to school just depends on the adminations that's in place, not saying break the rules but 9 times out of 10 this happens at cac controlled schools the same schools that have problems with people of colors natural hair style or the way they talk.

My original comment stands.. fat hideous soulless miserable cac trying to pull others down to her misery.. this is her lifeline of feeling of importance to the world and to have some sort of power. Take that away and that chick leaves a crater bigger than a meteor on the ground when she jumps to her death
