Restaurants are serving cheaper fish than what's on the menu

Catfish has a pretty distinctive taste and texture,is swai that close to it that people can't tell? I don't think I've ever had it.

Duhhh,their going to serv whatever they catch,dip,batter and fry and most won't be able to tell the difference unless it's like catfish or some shit.

That's why my mother doesn't be eating fish dinners cause she doesn't like catfish,salmon,tilapia and none of the rest of that shit.

This has been happening for a long time, it's a restaurant dirty secret. Not only that but fisherman have become good at tricking restaurateurs, so it's not surprising when a smaller establishment doesn't even know they're swindling people. They just figured they got a good deal when it's really some farm raised bullshit or some close relative. But many are just scummy thieves, this shit even happens at grocery stores and markets.

If they were substituting that Swai for Grouper and it passed through.... no way it passed for catfish.... grouper flesh is different.... waaaay different from catfish... and I had some grouper about a month ago..... too much of a fishy taste for me

I dont normally get fish when I go out except for the occasional fried whiting and salmon but for intances like this, Im glad we have a supermarket where they clean and cut up the fish any way you like. At least you know what you're geting.

I'm a fish eater so I can immediately tell. Here's how. Tear or cut the catfish/fillet if you think you've been duped. Catfish always flakes away, Swai does not. The meat and flesh are solid, and not flaky at all. The Atlanta Fish Market sold me a plate of Swai for $25 fucking dollars. I was mad as fuck and told that lady this isn't catfish, it's Swai. She got mad at me and told me I didn't know what I was talking about. I asked her where she grew up. She said Atlanta ( Georgia) why? Because I grew up in the Ms. Delta catching catfish from the river. This was before the Catfish farms in Itta Bena. That's why. Telling me I don't know catfish from Swai is like saying pumpkin pie and sweet potato pie are the same and it's not. Bitch.
 
Cutting corners been industry standard since forever.. that liquor you buy at the bar 90 percent of the time ain’t exactly what you ordered. Unless you order a bottle and it’s sealed 9 times out of 10 it’s some cheap shit that nigs look down upon if they in a liq store but loving it when the restaurant/bar /lounge / club serve it to you and overcharge it and claim it’s something else.. like them shots of “patron” really montezuma, that henny colada is really Salignac, them henny wings probably courvoisier, etc.. corner cutting since forever

I can tell the difference between whiting and cod, catfish and swai. If it’s salmon it will be kinda hard to fake. I dont know any other trout that comes close to looking and tasting like salmon. Cod you could maybe fool someone with a Pollock cuz theyre almost the same.

I think how its prepared makes a difference. Anything fried takes away any unique identifiers. They deep frying the shit outta that fish and selling you some bullshit
 
Ya also don’t understand these restaurants cater to white people. They don’t know how to cook and are very gullible consumers. You can overcharge and serve them bullshit and they would easily fall for the manipulation. Some of these industries were meant for a certain demographic to completely swindle that consumer base money.. some of these establishment weren’t meant for us so leave it for the gullible cac

Steelehead Trout and Salmon are almost indistinguishable. But if you subbing those two you really are a dumbass because they cost almost the same price now.

Ok thanks, Ive never had Steelhead before, but that’s where I was going to go next because some of these subs are going to be close in price so it wouldnt be much benefit.
 
yea they be getting over to tryin to sell farm raised salmon as wildcaught,

I heard they even add coloring because farm raised salmon doesnt have that distinct

pink flesh that real wild caught salmon has, I remember the fish market was selling

salmon, the fuckin flesh wasnt even pink. dude tried to tell me all salmon isnt pink,

I was like maybe the salmon YOU eat aint pink... not the shit I eat..

Had the nerve to be sellin that fake shit for 15 dollars a pound and this was back in 2007

when you could still get wild caught salmon for ten a poiund. Now I seen wildcaught

go far as much as eighty dollars a pound.. I was like.. Id just fly out to alaska and catch my own

before I pay that much..

I guess to most people if you don't eat it alot. We grew up catching/eating catfish, so we could tell something was off. Its hard to explain, but its just..... different.
