It would be helpful if the brotha providing the information gave more context to Joe to help him understand the validity of his statement. Runoko Rashidi, for instance, would have provided a more detailed breakdown of the evidence for discussion and debate, leaving Joe with no grounds for refuting it. Without specific information, such as dates, exhibitions, statues, oral traditions, biological tracing, and other relevant details, Joe might assume that the brotha lacks knowledge or is misinformed.

Blacks were here before the slave trade 100% percent. A large amount of Africans were carried across the Atlantic 100% percent. People are going to lean on whichever of those facts that suits their belief. At this point there’s more evidence of the transportation of African slaves than the enslavement of Black indigenous people. If the argument was economic to enslave the indigenous Blacks rather than transport slaves then it would stand to reason that the entire slave population in the Caribbean and South America(Brazil) were Black before the trade. Cause economically it wouldn’t make any sense there either. I don’t see the evidence supporting the theory at that level.

I think he's not an intellectual but is genuinely intellectually curious... and can be thoughtful at times. I believe what's been misrepresented is the NUMBER of enslaved Africans in this country. By their count, it was something around 12-20 million of us. With something like 20-25% of us LOST AT SEA (these are rough numbers, nothing exact). But there's also over 35 MILLION of us here. So where'd those extra 15 MILLION come from? That 35 million is underestimated in some of our historians studies. A couple have had our population at somewhere around FIFTY million.
