My android phone's internal system storage just keeps decreasing.I got 128gb total storage,100gb of that is now android system which is crazy.its not pics, movies
Games,apps,cache etc...

lost 20 gigs in two weeks without doing anything.used antivirus and malware apps, nothing worked.anybody else going through this?

No but I'd setup a shielded partition on a computer with a really good anti like Webroot and pull all the files into it then factory reset the phone. The anti should scrub whatever is doing it and apk files shouldn't harm the computer.

It's very difficult to see what's going on without an outside source to view the files. And the phone, if compromised will protect the virus. Or in other words, the virus will protect itself. If it is a virus.
I'd keep checking the android forums because sooner or later somebody will figure it out. Good luck.

This is what I use every week or so. Check out this forum as well. https://www.xda-developers.com

Good shit to know

.

Yea OnePlus..did factory reset help you or did you change phones?
I changed phones due to customer service being noexistant with the company. After I changed phones, I still did a factory reset on the One+ and now it seems to act right..

You probably have an app that's saving files like media, vids or images.

I use Telegram a lot and subscribed to many channels with news and such. If you don't set the Cache in the app to delete all files on 3 days, it will grow by gigs and gigs daily.

You may not be using that, but other apps may be saving vids in a temp cache. Maybe your browser or something else? Anything growing that big has to be vids.

Tiktok? Instagram? FB? WhatsApp?
Have to think of what you mostly use. Its most likely storing what's being sent to you on auto.

Look at my apps with the most storage used

Then they're creating leftover files.
That is weird.
I'd look in File Manager and look for whatever are the largest files and delete that.
But a lot of times these programs will create a ton of small 1mb files as cache.

Tried wiping the cache in your browsers?
Since you basically have nothing installed it looks like, I'd back stuff up and make sure contacts and stuff is backed up, messages and do a factory type wipe and restore.

There is another kind of wipe, I forget at the moment, but you hold the down key when rebooting to get into the android menu B4 boot. There's a cache wipe in there you can try first. That won't wipe data. Just cache

See if this helps

Basically go to the phone call screen
Type *#9900#
In the sysdump menu that comes up click 'deletedumpstate/logcat'

Reboot and see if that helps

Saw this through my searches and it never calls up the sysdump menu.the other one (*#800# I think)that goes to rootkit works but I have no logs turned on.

What version of Android you running. Curious because I haven't seen this type of behavior in years.

You sure caches on browsers are cleared?
Gmail or Google apps have any large caches you could clear?

Maybe something that could be running ads, like YouTube?

Yep, been using Ccleaner on everything for over a decade. Essential.

I think you're thinking of the partition wipe on safe mode reboot..

I was having the same issue as the OP with my old phone. When I ran the diagnostics , the storage numbers didn't add up and the "system" seemed to have a huge chunk of hidden files stashed who-knows where.

One thing that helped a little was deleting some of my old text conversations, especially the ones with lots of images attached or media files and gifs. But that only helped incrementally. I ended up getting a new phone and starting over.

thats gotta be a system update eating up all that space. check updates to try to manually kick start it. if that don't work i'd back up my important files and do a factory reset.

OnePlus is data mining the shit out of their phones now.

OnePlus no longer provides the tools to fully restore the device in case of a software brick. So backup all your files if you plan to factory reset.

The storage loss is probably an auto downloaded software rom update that did not delete after upgrading it. Poor programming from OnePlus. They don't really back their devices anymore.

CCleaner has been hacked multiple times over the years, putting your data at risk. Be careful.

I would not recommend using a Android device, stuck on A11, that has you personal banking, cash apps, email, password managers. Be very careful running any android device that does not have up to date security software. All those free apps on the play store prey on deficiencies in the open platform.

Basically get a new phone. If you prefer OnePlus, at least get the newer models with at least A12 and a 2023 security package. In reality purchase from another manufacturer.

I stopped using my phone for that exact reason and now use my desktop when I'm gonna be on this forum or others a lot since it takes up a lot of space on my phone increasing files.
