Olive, from Idaho, showed his meal on TikTok, causing the viral video to divide the internet.

"Sixteen dollars for a burger, a large fry, and a drink"

Topher, known on TikTok as @topherolive, captioned the clip:

"I get there's a labor shortage. I get there's wage increases and a number of other things, but $16?"

The video showed that Topher ordered Smoky BLT Quarter Pounder with cheese, large fries, and a Sprite.

Some of the TikTokers pointed out that he ordered items on the more expensive side, though there is no doubt that inflation is still causing massive issues, especially in the food industry.

It is no secret that McDonald's was among the fast-food chains that raised their prices in 2021. They were quick to account for inflation and advanced labor costs.

Topher's video received nearly 700k views and counting, but the comments were divisive.

People share their views on the video
Topher wrote, "Sixteen dollars for a burger, a large fry, and a drink. It's just crazy." Some TikTokers were just as shocked.

One wrote: "It's officially not convenient or affordable anymore."
Another added: "Might as well go to the store and buy hamburger meat."
But, not everyone was sympathetic, as a TikToker said:
"Bro ordered the most expensive meal they have and acted surprised."
Others advised Topher to get an app: "Bro, obviously didn't use the app."
Others expressed their concerns as the person stated: "Sit down restaurant, it is for that price!"
And another added:
"Companies know they can get these prices now, so they'll never go back," suggested another. "it doesn't matter who's in office."

Topher admitted he prefers to cook
The TikToker's outrage should not come as a surprise as he stated he cooks 90 percent of the time.
Others agreed that home-cooked meals will be more of a necessity than ever, as one person wrote:
"We have experienced the same thing. The food isn't bigger or better, we will be hav[ing] more home-cooked meals. My wages didn't go up."
Is inflation messing up your eating habits? Do you think sitting in restaurants, even fast food chains, is not affordable anymore?

I noticed that shit about decade ago when my brother ordered a few items from Wendy and it was $27. I told him we could get two goat roti from Feroza and two Arizonas for just under $20. Then again I live in NYC. I don't have to eat fast food while I have a wide variety of restaurants of varying cultures to chose from.

Breakfast is the most at the Mcdonalds here where I live and that was 9.00 and some change so say ten bucks for 1 hashbrown, 1 sausage biscuit

Yes things have went up in price thanks to covid and doordash which make things go up and now that things are back open them prices are stuck and I doubt they come down.

People don't add meals up before they buy them?
U’ll be surprised how many people don’t calculate products b4 purchasing. Another thing people don’t notice is how some places be overcharging at the register. They don’t calculate the numbers and some biz get extra money. I’m a Jew I calculate everything in my head b4 purchasing and it’s various times I be like that number wrong on the register and than the cashier got to get a key, call a manager, etc to fix their “mistake”.. I be thinking how many motherfuckers have they gotten over on

I feel you, I make sure they get my shat right. I won't even let them fast food folks short me a penny.....

companies are using inflation as there excuse to screw over the consumer to get back the lost monies during covid.
They're screwing over customers for profit..... everything they sell has gotten smaller and you can bet your ass, just like with most companies..... when the cost of them acquiring the ingredients for their products drops.... the prices won't cause they got you used to them... :hmm:

.

They're gonna cut that labor force...and keep those prices..... might be a lil tired of ratchet hood boogers starting incidents in their stores too

McDonalds opens first stores with no human employees

McDonalds may receive a lot of backlash, but this is a truly innovative company. First of all, the company rose to prominence for having a good product. After that, McDonalds became the first fast food restaurant to begin franchising. This is now the business model for all fast food restaurants. In addition, McDonalds was the first restaurant to branch out, having locations inside Walmart stores, and in various malls. Now, McDonalds is testing out restaurants with no employees.

McDonalds remains the most successful fast food restaurant. However, the market share they dominate has dramatically declined, over the years. Currently, McDonalds faces tough competition from Chick-Fil-A, a fast food restaurant that continues to grow. Nowadays, Chick-Fil-A locations are dominating the malls. Meanwhile, their drive thru lines are more congested than McDonalds. As a result, most of their locations have redone their parking lots to accommodate such a large demand.

McDonalds is fully aware of the issues going on with their employees. Human errors are leading to intentional altercations. So with that, plus the expenses that go into hiring people, McDonalds is testing out having locations with no employees. Over the past month, they have launched locations in Fort Worth, Texas, Denver, Colorado, and Las Vegas, Nevada with no employees. Instead, these restaurants are run entirely by robots.

Question when is some of these consumers gonna get smart and stop supporting some of these companies for price gauging.. what number do they have to hit for the consumer to say that’s it I’m not buying that shit. Literally when people stop supporting mysteriously prices will decrease

This. I'll do Mcdonalds breakfast from time to time. The one by the gig renovated the inside. They got 1 register and 4 kiosks. Inflation don't wipe out lower overhead, they full of shit. Everybody out here full of shit. I used to get loose-leaf green tea at Harris Teeter. A tin used to be 4.50. Shit is 6.50 now and get this... The tin is slightly smaller too. Greed is outta control and they just put here using us as cash cattle with no thought about sustainability. Shits gone get real bad out here.

Sadly... When the shit tanks and revenue drops and stays down for multiple quarters. Regardless of how people portray online. Allot of folk are struggling. We getting hit from all sides and the people lowest are getting hit the worst. Everything expensive, nothing left to cut and aint no more blood to squeeze out of the stone. Something gonna have to give.

:dunno: I don't eat this bullshit...2lb ground beef around 8-10 bucks, buns for 3, bag of potatoes for 5 and I'll feed the whole fam with non bullshit Burgers. Stop giving these greedy cancer causing thieves your hard earned cash and eat actually delicious home made food.

People better start cooking at home more because its not only just McDonald's. A couple months ago we went to a Jamaican restaurant & they had the audacity to try to sell a plate of oxtails for $40 :smh: . I told my wife I could buy my own pack of oxtails from the store that would last longer & be way cheaper.

Sure enough a couple weeks ago she was at the store & she text me a pic of a 3 pound pack of oxtails for $23 . We ate off that for almost a week.

I have spells where I would stop at McDonald’s and get some fries to snack on in the car while I worked or a vanilla cone on a hot day but I can count on both hands the times I ate any burgers or any other item from them.

Better go to KFC and get that 8 piece bucket for $10

I was looking to get some wings today and this place had just 10 wings for $20  shit is beyond ridiculous.. Smh

Agreed most places food did get smaller... except for this mom n pops place by me... i get a gyros combo from them its still the same just a price increase and im fine with that totally! Cause they have a lot of meat on that shit! And o yeah a brotha got to order a double whopper just to get the size it once was!:smh:

I used to love McDonald's breakfast. My thing was 2 egg McMuffins without meat, 2 hash browns and a large coffee.

I placed that order in San Francisco at the McDonald's on market and 2nd. Order came to $16! I immediately canceled. During my first break I ordered breakfast from a diner near the job. Breakfast was the same price, but it came with unlimited coffee and pancakes.

That was back in 2014. Since then I've ordered that Mcbreakfast maybe a dozen times. Usually when I'm on the road in an unfamiliar city. I've come to realize that no matter how much you eat you're always going to be hungry and sluggish a few hours later.

Now I'd rather fill my stomach with something that's sustainable and halfway healthy.

People support them because their caught in a downward spiral.

Price of a Mcmeal goes up. Customers work more hours to afford it. That leaves them with less time to cook and so they buy even more Mcmeals. Then McDonald's raises prices and the cycle continues.

First.... We shouldn't be eating at McDonald's..... If you over 25... Ill give you a pass if you young and starving college student no kitchen etc.

But, I'll be honest, as a business owner Ive had to bake in something costs because of the labor force, because of messed up customers, because of inflation, etc.

Im in no ways excusing greedy corporations because they have the margins to waste but at every corner it's becoming harder to run a profitable business because of the ancillary things. My insurance went up 150% in like 2 years. The money in business is efficiency and a business over like 4-10 employees lose that.
