The ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe has expanded all the way beyond cinema entirely. As of early 2021, Marvel Studios began its conquest of the small screen, beginning with projects like WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The foray continues, enlisting MCU regulars (namely Loki and Hawkeye) and newcomers alike. And one such new direction will involve a beloved Marvel Comics miniseries: Secret Invasion.

Disney formally announced this project (among many others) during its Investor Day presentation in December 2020. Here’s some background on the source material and notes on the production as they hit the web.

What is Secret Invasion?
Marvel Comics published the eight-issue miniseries Secret Invasion between April and December 2008. Brian Michael Bendis, who wrote the series, developed its story as a direct follow-up to the 2006 storyline “Annihilation.” Beyond its eight issues, the series tied into numerous other concurrent Marvel Comics series, espousing a preemptive “The Infiltration” banner. Members of superhero teams including Mighty Avengers, New Avengers, Young Avengers, Fantastic Four, Secret Warriors, among others, were included in the story.
As mentioned, Disney has announced development on a television adaptation of the Secret Invasion arc. The project will span six episodes and will air (presumably weekly) on Disney+.
Marvel Comics
What is Secret Invasion about?
Bendis’ comic event tells the story of the Skrulls’ attempted invasion and conquest of the planet Earth. Using shapeshifting abilities, Skrulls take the form and identity of innumerous Earthlings, including top dollar Marvel figures. Skrull Empress-elect Veranke adopts the likeness of Spider-Woman, for instance, and sidles up to her superhero colleagues; over time, the Skrulls permeate additional groups like S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Fantastic Four.
That’s just the gist of the rising action. You can read a more in-depth discussion of Secret Invasion here.

What will the MCU’s Secret Invasion look like?
Captain Marvel sowed the seeds for a major Skrull-centric event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The 2019 picture painted the shapeshifting alien race in a more empathetic light than the comics did; thus, Disney+’s Secret Invasion could well rework the premise of the arc significantly. As in the case of Captain Marvel, longtime MCU favorite Nick Fury will play an upsized role in Secret Invasion; likewise the film’s villain-turned-ally, the Skrull Talos.
Who will star in Secret Invasion?
Samuel L. Jackson will bring Fury to life onscreen for Secret Invasion. Incidentally, this will mark the twelfth MCU project in which he’s played the character (not counting video games). Ben Mendelsohn, who played Talos in Captain Marvel and (briefly) in Spider-Man: Far from Home, will return as the surprisingly kindly Skrull.
Right on the heels of Once Night in Miami’s Oscar nomination, Variety reported that the film’s star Kingsley Ben-Adir would join the Secret Invasion cast. His role is yet unknown, though reports suggest that he’ll play a villain. Meanwhile, another Oscar winner is joining the fray. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Olivia Colman is in talks to join the series in a role currently unspecified.
Game of Thrones alum Emilia Clarke and Dublin Murders star Killian Scott have also reportedly been cast, although their roles are also under wraps. Christopher McDonald has also joined the show, though we don’t know the role.

Who’s behind the scenes?
Kyle Bradstreet, writer and producer for Mr. Robot, is handling Secret Invasion‘s script. Thomas Bezucha (Let Him Go) and Ali Selim (The Looming Tower) will direct according to The Hollywood Reporter.
How will Secret Invasion connect to other MCU titles?
Given its reversal of traditional Kree-Skrull sympathies, Captain Marvel may be a wise place to look for hints about the forthcoming TV show. The conflict witnessed therein could likely bleed into the events of Secret Invasion; perhaps the Kree will serve as a villainous centerpiece.
We’ve already seen the fingerprints of the film on follow-up MCU venture Spider-Man: Far from Home. The end of the movie revealed Thalos using his lookalike powers to operate as an Earthbound Fury surrogate; meanwhile, Fury has apparently been kicking back up in space at S.W.O.R.D. headquarters. But that restful chapter has no doubt reached its end.
Given that the last sign of Skrullage we saw in the MCU came in the final moments of WandaVision, we may expect a narrative link between the two series; particularly, one that may involve S.W.O.R.D. Agent Monica Rambeau.

Huge news for people who had Happy Gilmore posters in the college dorm rooms: Shooter McGavin is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Now, it’s unfair to boil down Christopher McDonald’s entire, varied career to one guy from the 90s. Most recently, he played a casino magnate in Hacks. But you go to Christopher McDonald because you want to see a blood vessel threaten to burst from a dude’s face. And that seems to be what Marvel wants. The Leave it to Beaver star has signed on to the Secret Invasion series, according to Deadline. The Skrull-centric Disney+ series already has Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, and Kingsley Ben-Adir attached. The Crown’s Olivia Colman is allegedly also in talks for a role.

Per Deadline, McDonald’s role is “a newly created character that could cross over to the larger MCU.” Of course, every character in the MCU has the potential to cross over into the larger MCU; that’s kind of the point. But if that means McDonald can eat pieces of shit like the head of S.W.O.R.D. for breakfast, we’re all in.

Emilia Clarke is in final negotiations to join Marvel Studios’ “Secret Invasion,” the hot original series quickly coming together at Disney Plus.
The “Game of Thrones” headliner’s role is naturally under wraps, and marks her first foray into the Marvel universe. She joins previously-reported cast Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Olivia Colman.

Marvel Studios declined to comment on the matter. Reps for Clarke did not immediately comment on the matter.

“Secret Invasion” was announced as a development property last year, one of Marvel’s many planned titles for Disney Plus. Jackson is reprising his MCU role of Nick Fury, while Mendelsohn will play the Skrull Talos as he did in the feature film “Captain Marvel.” “

The series is said to follow a group of shape-shifting aliens who have been infiltrating Earth for years. Ben-Adir has been set as the a main villain. Kyle Bradstreet is attached to write and executive produce. Kevin Feige’s unit is producing the series for the streamer, as it does all other MCU titles, including the hits “WandaVision” and “Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”

Clarke is a four-time Emmy nominee for her portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen on HBO’s global smash “Game of Thrones,” which just celebrated the 10th anniversary of its premiere. She is also a multiple Critics Choice Award nominee and was the 2018 recipient of the BAFTA Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year. Clarke is an AMPAS member and was also noted as one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People. She is repped by Range Media Partners, CAA, Emptage Hallett, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller & Gellman.

Her film credits include the holiday film “Last Christmas,” “Me Before You,” “Terminator Genisys,” and “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” She’ll voice a role in the upcoming animated film “The Amazing Maurice.”

In the MCU, after the Snap and the Blip have taken place, isn't every single humanlike intelligent being in existence traumatized and depressed? Like, just on earth, after the blip, every human must be pretty emotionally damaged by all that, right?

I honestly think the worst place you can be is living a life of a normal human being in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The answer to your question is yes. In fact, after the Blip, there are a lot of things to deal with.

In fact, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier shows a lot of issues the normal people are facing.

Let’s take an example of two situations:

· Situation 1 - You survived the snap:

main-qimg-faa944e18d1a0c5d152d6ccbf10b02f9-lq

Imagine, you’re living with your parents. Due to the snap they vanish. Similarly, some of your friends and your family get randomly wiped off the face of Earth. Now, you’re left behind. You stay depressed for an year and then things start falling into place.

You start making progress. Now, there are more resources then the people. So everything is available readily. Yes there were economical ups and downs but after an year things are now going good.

After 2 years with whatever you’re left, you’re finally happy. You get a good job so you sell your parents house and decide to leave your state and live in some other state.

It’s been five years since the Snap and you’re in a totally different situation. Suddenly, a family appears out of nowhere in the current house you’re staying. They’re freaked out to find you here.

Similarly, your parents come back at their place only to find someone else living there.

The place where you’re working decides to fire you as the old manager who was wiped out is now back.

You learn that Hulk brought everyone back. You find that there’s chaos everywhere.

Everyone you loved is back but you’re at your worst currently. You sold off your house with the proper paperwork and bought this one with the help of loan which you were paying off because you were working.

Now, the previous owners are back. You’re now struggling to find a place to live. You decide to take the matter to court but there are 1000’s of such cases already pending.

· Situation 2 - You were wiped out:

main-qimg-2bff871c0be6c6e2ccab9895def752b4-lq

Let’s take a bizarre example that you were getting married. You turn into dust and then you’re back again.

The place where were getting married is empty. You’re still in your wedding suit. You get out of church and go to your girl’s place.

You ring her doorbell and she’s surprised to see you. You find out that she’s with someone else.

They’re not married yet but clearly she’s over you. You ask her to get married but now she’s unsure.

Because what was just moments for you was 5 years for her in which she was depressed and agonized by your loss and she was finally alright. She had accepted that you’ll never be back.

Now that you’re back, it’s your turn to go through all of that.

There are many possibilities which can occur in these two situations. Marvel has barely touched the surface in terms of exploring these things.

It’s better to say that Marvel doesn’t get much into exploring the collateral damage. So far, we’ve just seen MCU from one point of view.

So, yes, everyone is facing some kind of problem after The Blip especially and these problems will some how make way into future MCU projects.

It’s just a matter of time as to when Marvel decides to exploit it. In fact some of these traumatized people may be a greater threat for others and may very well serve as villains for upcoming MCU projects.

____-___

IMO since marvel has stated that the secret invasion takes place during the blip This could be some of the themes and storylines they explore.
