I need to look up building materials, everytime I see the board sidings I get skittish. Coming from the Caribbean I'm used to seeing brick or planks being used for walls.

We should all learn some homebuilding trade skills. Electrical, plumbing, framing, carpentry, everything and anything. Unsure if we have an ongoing post like that. To the original post - I often wonder about the costs to add an extension, the permit process, and property tax implications. Seems like every township is different.

Another smart move was to leave one or two walls standing (and on the rear at that)...... so that they don't get new home tax rates...... if you rebuild completely you get them..... saw someone on my block a few houses away do it..... but they did it with a house that looked like a rectangle on it's end.... was wondering why they didn't do a complete rebuild and found out
