The technical level of the members was much higher. We had signature battles to test our photoshop skills. We used flash for animation. We had posting battles and used html. Beat battles too. We edited porn flicks and added intros and credits. There was no software you couldn't get from someone on here. There were no smartphones or tablets. You had to have a desktop. Most of the world didn't have internet only techies. There was no google or youtube. The barrier to entry is so low now.

The main reason in your words it's a "Ghost town" is because of several factors and it's not because of beef.
The reason is it's an over 20 year old message board hidden on a porn website and hidden behind a paywall.
It's also a website that isn't spoken about or promoted by members for various reasons and that also limits growth.
The beef in which Op's speaking about is about pointless rants in threads that have nothing to do with the thread or what a poster said.
It's simply because they don't like that poster and every post they follow each other around to tell each other that they don't like them.

When I first logged on this site back in late 90's / early 2K, that was the FIRST thing I noticed. At the time it appeared that inter-Boards (verses other similar forums that are now defunct) and intra-Board e-beef ("talkin shit and posting pics" slogan) birthed this forum

I think it's a combination of the changing landscape of porn, tube sites (legal and pirate) are everywhere. (hard drives die and you don't miss a beat).
I think a lot of us are getting older and some of this shit just isn't as funny as it was when we were younger. The trolling here is more annoying than funny these days. Witty and intelligent comedy, which was once a hallmark of this place can be found on social media now.
Things are just generally more divisive now even within the Black community. Yes the ADOS/FBA vs Immigrants/Africans issue has reached BGOL and it's tiresome.
Speaking for myself, I used to get a ton of shit from this place, my music collection is largely from here but for a number of years now I've gotten shit from elsewhere also I've kinda gotten used to being on other forums where talking is kept to a minimum and more emphasis is placed on people who contribute.
