“The game has had eras, and LeBron, without a doubt, is the greatest player of his era,” Abdul-Jabbar said. “And that era is right behind that of Shaquille (O'Neal), Michael Jordan. There are people that dominated the game, and then there are people that capture everybody’s imagination. I think that’s what Michael Jordan did. Everybody wanted to be him, to do what he did.”

Abdul-Jabbar noted the folly of the so-called G.O.A.T debates, noting that eras in basketball vary wildly.

“How many people in here saw Sweetwater Clifton play? I didn’t. Most of us didn’t,” Abdul-Jabbar said. "He was awesome, but that was back in the early ’50s, without the 24-second clock. ... I think the reason they have sports bars with all those TVs is so people can go in there and argue like this, because we’re not going to find out.”

It seems these "GOAT" & "Mt Rushmore" arguments happen more often in the NBA and it's lazy and annoying.

I don't hear this constantly in other sports. Why is that?

Because it’s easier to define, usually you look at the person that holds the most records and their impact on the game. Basketball has too many categories to take into consideration.
But if you break it down to simple logic the object of the game of basketball is to score 1 point more than your opponent when all is said and done and the clock runs out. With that said the Mantle is obvious the person who has put more points on the board than any other player in history. However the mantle of G.O.A.T has stopped being decided this way when Michael Jordan could not achieve this feat. So now we have to factor in championship although Bill Russell won more rings he was not undefeated. So we start adding their influence outside of the game and what they stand for however the white conglomerate Jewish run media will not allow a Muslim to be considered the G.O.A.T.
So here we are, but at the least complex my vote will Go to Lebron simply for the fact when it’s all said and done he scored more points than everybody else. It doesn’t matter how long that should be appreciated as to his dominance and reign over 20 years and when you add in his assist the amount of points he has accorded and contributed to the game is unmatched.

I think you can make the same case for Soccer, Golf, Hockey, Tennis, NASCAR and F1 racing, but you don't hear the same arguments week after week on their respective radio and TV programs.
