MISSION IMPOSSIBLE DEAD RECKONING Pt.1 trailer (2023)

yeah, I liked that one

Saw it on the big screen that summer. Was talking to some coworkers the next day and they asked me what I thought of the movie. I basically said -

"Great fight scene. Skydiving. Car and motorcycle chases. Tom Cruise running like usual. Some great camera shots and locations. Good popcorn flick. I recommend it. Even with a long running time, it wasn't boring ..."

:roflmao:

I went dow a rabbit hole trying to find a story on Cruise and how he got started with MI. Started seeing Hollywood figures net worth...

Spielberg is 3.7 Billion. Damn

They just had it on cable. Wasn't feeling it. Is he still married to his wife in the series?
no.

I think at the end of the third one, when he was secretly checking up on her, he told someone she thinks I'm dead.

I believe it was last one where we find out she was married to someone else and had moved on, until Ethan's main enemy tracked her down and Ethan had to reveal to her that he was still alive and needed her help to complete his mission.

Tom Cruise’s Future Movie Plans Confirm Mission: Impossible Exit

Tom Cruise's acting future included plans for several new movies and franchises, confirming he is preparing to exit the Mission: Impossible franchise.

Tom Cruise mission impossible tropic thunder rock of ages
Tom Cruise's plans for future movies confirm his Mission: Impossible franchise exit with Mission: Impossible 8. It has been over two decades since Cruise began playing Ethan Hunt, and it has now become the action star's signature role in many ways. That is why it came as somewhat of a surprise when it was reported that Mission: Impossible 8 could be his last in the franchise. While his frequent collaborator writer/director Christopher McQuarrie attempted to dispel this notion, there is mounting evidence that Ethan Hunt's Mission: Impossible story will end with the upcoming sequels.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Even though Tom Cruise is one of the biggest movie stars in the world, his slate of upcoming films is usually quite slim. Beyond Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One and Mission: Impossible 8, his only other known movies have been a possible Edge of Tomorrow sequel and a movie to be shot in space with director Doug Liman. The two projects have been in development for several years as Cruise focuses on his potential Mission: Impossible exit. But the actor is now developing a new action franchise, a musical, and something with Tropic Thunder's Les Grossman. All of these projects have McQuarrie involved and are expected to be made after Tom Cruise wraps up work on Mission: Impossible 8.

Why The Mission: Impossible Franchise Cannot Work Without Tom Cruise

If it was not clear before that Mission: Impossible 8 will be Tom Cruise's last, his new busy slate of movies is an obvious sign of just that. Whereas Cruise and McQuarrie have primarily focused their attention on the Mission: Impossible franchise in recent years, they are now preparing to branch off in several directions. The musical and original space movie give Tom Cruise new challenges as a performer beyond the thrilling stunts that come with Ethan Hunt. Meanwhile, Edge of Tomorrow 2 and a Tropic Thunder Les Grossman spinoff allow him to grow existing franchises instead of relying on Mission: Impossible. The most telling of Tom Cruise's movie plans is the original action franchise with McQuarrie, which indicates they want to create something new together instead of remaining in the Mission: Impossible sandbox.

Why Tom Cruise Is Finally Leaving Mission: Impossible
Tom Cruise Masks Up On Mission Impossible 7 Set For Stunt Rehearsal
It was only a matter of time before Tom Cruise would have to exit Mission: Impossible, but now it appears he is finally ready to do just that. One of the reasons why he might be prepared to leave Ethan Hunt behind is because he is ready for a new challenge. The Mission: Impossible sequels challenge him in various ways, especially as an entertainer and since Cruise insists on doing his own stunts. However, that is all done behind the safety net of an established IP where audiences relatively know what to expect. The musical movie indicates he is ready to stretch himself more as a performer, while an original action franchise is Tom Cruise's chance to show that he is the real draw for the Mission: Impossible movies.

The timing of Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible exit also comes on the heels of Top Gun: Maverick proving he can succeed outside the franchise. Lackluster performances from Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, The Mummy, and American Made reinforced his commitment to Ethan Hunt. It might be a sequel to one of his iconic movies, but Top Gun: Maverick's massive box office is still surprising. Since it shows that audiences will watch Tom Cruise in major blockbusters outside the Mission: Impossible franchise, the star is undoubtedly as confident as ever that his upcoming movies will be hits too after Mission: Impossible 8.

Dude is over 60.....

Time to let Ethan Hunt rest and bring in a new asset.

I saw they were trying to set up Jeremy Renner to take over, but with Marvel and the Bourne franchise calling.......he said nah B

So who's next in line?

So who's next in line?

If I were writing it, the last scene would be a long walk on a bridge with the sunset in the distance. Ving or new BBF (Best Black Friend) says with a handshake and a clap on the back...

"Welcome to the team...ETHAN"

Setting up the franchise to be the American 007. Like, oh all these years yall thought that was my real name? Naw naw naw naw nawl.....that's just a codename!

That way the name lives in perpetuity no matter the actor.

Tom Cruise has turned Mission Impossible into a James Bond-esque American franchise which is pretty impressive.

However, I'm hoping for a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow so this is good news for me since he's unlikely to make that film if he continues with these.

It will be interesting to see who they replace him with when they have to reboot the franchise and if it will be successful.

I thought Cavill would have been perfect

I think his age and the fact that he's already been a villain in the franchise rules him out.

By the time they get to filming a reboot he'd be about 50.

Plus, I'd like to start seeing American actors get these blockbuster roles. In the last 20 years Batman (twice), Superman, Spiderman (twice), Dr. Strange, etc. have all been played by UK actors. And that's only naming a few on a very long list.

I don't necessarily have a problem casting non-American actors but I find it hard to believe that there aren't any capable American actors who can play these roles.

Plus, we know they'd riot in the streets if an American was cast to play Bond.

I've learned NEVER to trust first reaction reviews after all the bullshit ones that came out for both BVS and Flash.

I will wait until the official release for any movie from now on.

However, I have enjoyed all the other MI movies, so it's not like I don't expect this one to be good.

^^^^

Agreed.

It's crazy how when I was a kid movie reviews were considered serious business.

Now?

I don't really truly ANYONE. (I'm exaggerating slightly)

Much like everything else the internet making something more accessible didn't improve it at all

It completely ruined it.
