That hiker was reported missing 4 days ago and was found while the missing actor has been missing for about 13 days.

Unfortunately it's highly unlikely that he'll be found alive at this point :smh:

It's the not knowing what really happened that would torture me as a close family member

Hell yeah, I know personally my mind would imagine all of the worse possible scenarios and would be haunted by all if them.

No matter what happened, even if it's a terrible death, knowing allows you to grieve/process/accept the outcome and move on.

The worse torture though is that tiny sliver of hope, no matter how unrealistic, that your loved one is still alive.

I hope for them that maybe he's alive and if not, that he's found and they're able to get answers and move on.

It’s been more than six months since actor Julian Sands, 65, went missing near Mount Baldy on January 13. During that time the San Bernardino Sheriff and rescue crews have searched the area repeatedly to no avail.

Now, for the first time, Sands’ family has issued a statement on the matter, saying they are “deeply grateful to the search teams and coordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian.”
Of the actor himself, known for his roles in The Killing Fields, A Room with a View, Warlock, Arachnophobia, Boxing Helena, 24, Smallville and Banshee, the family said, “We continue to hold Julian in our hearts, with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer.”

The search for Sands had been suspended temporarily after the British actor, an experienced outdoorsman, because of the extra-severe winter conditions across Western U.S. Since Sands’ disappearance. San Bernardino sheriffs said they have conducted eight searches to find him, along with eight other operations.
The efforts picked up again last Saturday. Officials said more than 80 search and rescue volunteers, deputies and staff participated in the search that took place Saturday in the nearby wilderness and remote areas across the mountain. The effort included two helicopters and drone crews. Sands remains missing.
“Despite the recent warmer weather, portions of the mountain remain inaccessible due to extreme alpine conditions,” the department said today. “Multiple areas include steep terrain and ravines, which still have 10-plus feet of ice and snow.”
Mount Baldy, which lies in the San Gabriel Mountains less than 50 miles northeast of Los Angeles, is one of the highest peaks in the region.
The Sheriff’s Department said Sands’ case remains active and search efforts will continue in a limited capacity.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — Hikers found human remains Saturday in a Southern California mountain area where actor Julian Sands disappeared five months ago, authorities said.
The body discovered around 10 a.m. in wilderness near Mount Baldy was transported to the coroner’s office for identification next week, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
Additional details were not immediately available.
Sands, an avid hiker and mountaineer, was reported missing January 13 after setting out on the peak that rises more than 10,000 feet (3,048 meters) east of Los Angeles. The region was pounded by severe storms during winter.

On Friday, his family released its first statement since Sands’ disappearance.
“We continue to hold Julian in our hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer,” the statement said.
Sands, a 65-year-old British-born actor best known for his role in the 1985 film “A Room With a View,” is married to journalist Evgenia Citkowitz and has three adult children.
A June 17 search for Sands, the eighth organized search since his disappearance, was unsuccessful, authorities said.

I've been in the mountains and in the forests/woods hunting. I can tell you this, those places can be extremely dangerous. The views are absolutely stunning, but if you fuck around, you'll get fucked with.

I never go into the forests or mountains and I'm not strapped. When I hunt elk I use a big rifle, but I still carry a .40cal for the up close and personal MoFos like mountain lions and bobcats etc...

Bears are hellishly dangerous killing machines as well. It's hard to prepare for them. The best way is to stay where they aren't. If I know bears are in the area, I'm not going to be in that area. I haven't ran across a bear thank goodness. But if I do I'm shooting it, because I can't out run it, and I can't out climb it.

These white folk go into the wild with a handkerchief and a cup of coffee and that's it... They usually succomb to the weather before the animals get to them. They need to stop that dumb shit! Just because its 80 degrees this second, doesn't mean it can't turn into 50 degrees or 110 degrees the next... it can.
