You can, rely on moral vales and logic if you possess the proper tools, shit I do it, but I understand some struggle with it.
But let's be real there are two main types of people who need church the most, are people with poor critical thinking skills (i.e. people who struggle with math, science, and logic) and people who lack culture. Not going to point fingers but we all know who this description best describes, hint these were the ones who were supporting the churches and getting conned by the likes of Jim Jones!
No doubt the church used fear and guilt to control the minds of the parishioners, but traditionally the trade-off was they gave them a moral compass and was sort of an outsourced thinking so the simple-minded could navigate through life without confusion. Take that away now you have a bunch of confused folks doing everything from believing the earth is flat to thinking they can be 60 years old and still twerking in the clubs.
First thing they did was take away our culture and native religion to program our minds with their religion. Over the years we sort of remixed it a bit to fit the needs of our people, helping us a bit, but in the modern world religion alone started wearing thin. Look I have no problems ditching organized religion but you must replace it with logic and reasoning or else you will be vulnerable to the next con man trying to make a buck. This is why the people who were vulnerable to the church were also susceptible to gangs, drug abuse, and prostitution, while the atheist who used reasoning and logic as their moral compass very seldom if ever got caught up in that crap. No coincidence that jails are a hot bet for both religion and con men, the reason why is that they both have the same target audience and without a viable alternative you have to weigh which one is the lesser of the two evils.
That's what you think, but that's not the truth. Plenty of people are living great lives without a hand in their pocket, taking their 10% money. It happens all the time. On the other hand, plenty of folks are in the church and believe the earth is flat. There are plenty of broken religious homes. You don't need a bogeyman to push so-called morality. I can't wait to see a movie theater or bowling alley where a church used to be. That will be a great day for America.
Nothing is absolute so sure there are going to be some outlier cases that go against what is typical, and to be honest my argument is that without the church telling them right from wrong some people are more vulnerable than without the church, but as you can see I never quantified exactly how many of them there are, so yes this is an opinion on my part based off of anecdotal evidence, some stats, and reasoning. Not exactly the type of evidence you can chalk up as facts but never the less my argument is plausible. But to test this theory out for yourself the first place I'd start is the thousands of junkies who claimed that religion changed their lives, and then ask them what circumstances led to them taking hard drugs in the first place, and I bet that you'd find a correlation between the conditions that led them to take drugs and the treatment by religion to get them off of it.
Pscocolgy 101: different people are influenced by different factors, some appeal to authority, others fear, some guilt, and few logic and reason, well if you aren't swayed by logic and reason then chances are swindlers like the church or other con men have a great deal to do on how you see the world, so even if they get out of one cult, chances are they will only trade it in for another.

Churches may be closing somewhere else, not where I live in MD. Church of the Redeemer Gaithersburg runs about 5 services between Friday and Sunday which folks on the parking lot who can't make it in the sanctuary so they tune in. Covenant Life Church is always full on Sundays.
I would say the focus of the church has turned a lot of people off. Most leaders are hypocrites after your hard earned $$$ instead of proselytizing, I for one, I'm not handing over my money so you can floss on social media about "your" blessings.
The difference in the churches I mentioned above is they intentionally invest in their members. The pastor of the Covenant Life Church announced the wedding of his daughter the morning of the wedding and asked members not to go out to buy presents, just show up if you have time and enjoy yourself.

I thought about this. Though I do have a certain disdain for the manipulation of the church, religion does have benefit of keeping some of the worst people in line even a little bit.
I call it the, "I'll do this, but I won't do that," people.
Without even the semblance of religion to keep them in line, people would be out here wilding out even more than they are. With no fear of hell, what would stop people from doing whatever the hell they wanted to when they wanted to?

Never have. It’s make zero sense. I view church as hundreds of people going to therapy weekly. If the preacher is inspiring you can leave in a good mood, or learn to process events in life. I don’t believe in heaven, hell, thoughts and prayers or a God. It’s a fairytale for profit.

This is true when it comes to crimes that have long sentencing, but in crimes that are not regulated, like stealing child support money on going out to the clubs or lying to someone claiming they raped you (knowing they won't charge you for it) without the fear of going to hell for your actions some will do it and justify it by saying some bullshit like only god can judge me, knowing damn well they don't believe that bullshit themselves.
I have no reason getting rid of it, but caution that we must first replace it with logic and reasoning, something that some folks struggle with.
I grew up around some really grimy criminals, some who have killed people. None of them gave a shit about some imaginary make believe hell. Their concern was always getting caught by the police, not imaginary space god.
When you’re dead you’re dead, the very idea that people somehow believe you live forever in some afterlife is complete madness. Everything dies. Life, Planets, Stars, Galaxies, even the universe itself dies and is reborn as another universe. What is this ridiculous non sense like there is some random place where everybody goes if you’re good or bad? That’s the silliest childlike madness possible. Logic and reasoning is within us, we use it every day. Religion has nothing to do with logic and reasoning. Religion is more like Santa Claus. If you are a good kid, man, woman you get the gift of an after live.
I said that there was always grimy folk all over the world, and most of them didn't care a flying fuck about religion or the consequences of their actions, but they were always relatively small in numbers. But now without the church doing the thinking for idiots, now they are being convinced that those grimy dudes are the ones that they should be fucking and getting pregnant by (again this always happened but not at the rate that it's happening now), but what this is doing is producing more Ray-Rays and Pookies to the point where they are almost considered the norm.

I don't go to church but I remember church started first service at like 9am, then a 11am service and then there'd always be some church having a evening service program around 3-4pm, now I never see any churches with cars before 10:30 and by 12 the church parking lot is empty
Yes, it is, the answer requires critical thinking, not an answer that you read in a book or memorized. My point is that in public schools, especially the black ones, we are taught to memorize and follow rules, not to critically think on our own.
This is why very few women and hood dudes understand how to play chess, mainly because it's not a game of hunches and luck, its a game of critical thinking and figuring things out with logic and reasoning.
What I question is their ability to critically think for themselves, which is the reason why they are committing these crimes in the first place, so basically they are not addicted to the drug of the church they are addicted to the drug of peer pressure and greed.
My point is, we need to get off of both ways of thinking in favor of critical independent thinking which has zero side effects.
Some of the biggest thriving , criminal , rapist scum goes to church . Religion has nothing to do with order. Laws do
And half of them become religious as fuck after a 20-year sentence.
