Man, I’ve have been trying to work with VIIRS satellite data for a while now, but it’s been a task for me to obtain.

I ended up using static images for the time being, but I need that raw no pullout data so I can manipulate as I please.

I want to overlay my current satellite images with the VIIR nighttime imagery (city night lights), but doing this in Python with static images is a mess.

One of my mentees just landed a gig at NESDIS, so I’m going to try and connect with him to see what’s going on behind the scenes.

You obviously got some dope connections as well, so we might need to speak on what NASA is doing too. My only issue is that NASA is a little more strict with data than NOAA.

It can be used to do all types of land/sea reading. I want to use the instrument to create a combination of daytime/night times imagery.

Here is an example of an image I create from GOES satellite data and a VIIRS nighttime image that shows city lights.

Notice the city lights on the east coast. That's from VIIRS. The land colors and clouds are from the GOES satellite.
