Anyone plan on checking out this series? Interesting premise and the way it's shot ...

Kevin Can F**k Himself is an American dark comedy television series created by Valerie Armstrong, who also serves as an executive producer. It follows Allison McRoberts, a sitcom wife played by Annie Murphy, who escapes her confines and becomes the lead of her own life, using a format which blends both the multiple-camera setup typical of many mainstream American sitcoms when Allison is with her husband Kevin, and the single-camera setup more common to contemporary television when she is away from him.[1]

It premiered on AMC+ on June 13, 2021, and will debut on AMC on June 20, 2021.[2]

I watched the pilot episode this afternoon.

It is a interesting series. It is a Dark Comedy that somewhat has a Sci-Fi/ Thriller feel to it.

I will say before going forward, if you are a In-Cell, Woman hating cat, don't bother reading further and do not bother watching the series.

What makes the series interesting is that it is two series in one. One part is filmed like a standard TV Sitcom that is brightly lit that you will see on the major networks. It is filmed like "Home Improvement" and "King From Queens" and other sitcoms like it. The other part is filmed on film and is much darker when viewed similar to dramas like "Sons Of Anarchy" and "Justified".

Those standard TV sitcoms that you are familiar with over the past 40 years, they were male dominated series. The Husband went thru the episodes as a bumbling goof saying stupid shit and there will be the laugh track after his jokes which usually were corny. The husband would always forget their wedding anniversary, the wife's birthday or some special occasion or event earlier in their life. The Wife was always the butt of his jokes. And the husband's relatives, friends and co-workers would joke on the wife at her expense with the standard laugh track.

And that is basically how the series starts and plays out. When you watch, the scenes with the wife, husband, relatives and friends is in sitcom format. When the wife steps out of the room, it changes to the other format and you will see how she is upset with her marriage and life with her dumbass husband. It goes back and forth thru the episode.

The series is from the wife's point of view, not the husband's.

What is not explained at this point is what is the real life and what is the fake life. The pilot episode did have one scene when one relative was seen in the dark version. And there was another scene with the husband/relatives in the dark version (I won't spoil what happens but it's a dark, graphic scene). Both were quick scenes so it was hard to determine what was going on in relation to the sitcom part.

It's also not clear if the wife is going thru severe depression, suicidal or having a mental breakdown. It's also not clear if any of what we are seeing is real or fantasy or what.

Like any series, I suspect clues were in the first episode, but I most likely did not pick them up. I will re-watch the pilot later and then make a decision to watch future episodes.

And this does not seem to be a series to watch weekly. It comes off more as a binge series. So I might have the episodes stack up before I re-watch in the near future.

The series is Executive Produced by Rashida Jones

Kevin Can F**K Himself
Season 2 Trailer.
Debuts August 22, 2022

Looks like amc is gonna allow them to close out the series, instead of just canceling it like networks do leaving people hanging.

Synopsis

"Kevin Can F... Himself" is a dark comedy that alternates between traditional multi-camera sitcom and single-camera drama. Set in Worcester, Mass., the series follows the journey of Allison McRoberts, a stereotypically smart and beautiful sitcom wife, who is married to Kevin, a husky, self-centered man-child who is clearly punching above his weight. After making a dark discovery, Allison teams up with neighbor Patty O'Connor as she attempts to escape the confines of her life and take control of her fate.

How was the 1st season?

I only caught a portion of the pilot episode. The concept was creative / innovative, but the "Kevin" character was beyond obnoxious. Had zero interest in watching them on screen. I guess the actor played the role well.

Its different. And original in premise. I give some minor detail in my first post that I quoted above.

It’s definitely not a series for InCells and cats who are against “Female Empowerment”.

It’s a slow burn series. The humor is dark. Not to many surprises.

The format going from bright, multi-camera picture that networks use for standard sitcoms and switching to a dark film format helps with the story by letting you know what actually is going on with the lead character.

It’s not a binge watch series, I recommend watching one episode a day to allow to soak in. Season one has 8 episodes that run about 45 minutes each.

Thanks for the extra info.

The dark film format stuff focused on her was very good. Enjoyed that.

The bright sitcom set stuff was where I lost interest.

The “Sitcom” parts are odd, but plays well once you watch the episodes.

Don’t want to spoil it but there is a scene dealing with that format that is done well, pointing out the purpose of it.

How To Ruin Christmas

season 2..

Prodigal daughter Tumi tries to make things right after completely ruining what should have been her sister’s picture-perfect Christmas wedding.

never heard of this but gotta support ...black cast ...

Its a great show. Just found out the star was found dead earlier this month of suspected foul play. Her name was Busisiwe Lurayi.

Better Call Saul Even in black & white those Cinnabons look damn good . Loved all the tension and suspense of the scam in this episode

Dark Winds episode 6 great first season and the performances and story were so strong i dont think it needed the addition of mysticism or any other witchcraft. Looking forward to season 2

The Orville episode 9 "Domino" action packed episode even though they borrowed some threads from a couple of Star Trek films. Halfway through a thread was very predictable but still a great watch reminded me of when the world entered the Atomic age

Agreed. Fun to watch those steps play out on Better Call Saul. One of the only shows that could make a cinnamon bun montage look exciting, haha! They are great ... miss those days of the '90s when the junior high school crew would stop by one of the local malls after school. There was a Cinnabon a few stores over from an arcade ... so it was all about getting a snack and playing NBA JAM, etc.

Glad you liked the 1st season of Dark Winds too. Only a few minor missteps, but overall a very strong season. It's amazing to see the number of books the characters are based upon. Check out this list, JBlaze ...

Mom recommended Black Bird the other day as she was 3 eps in and enjoying it. Checked out the pilot yesterday - it’s good. Gonna continue with it.

7 eps into the rewatch of The Wire.

These British immigrants stealing American jobs :smh:

It's good so far, good production value, a lot of familiar faces and good acting.

For the City on a Hill fans, season 3 starts at the end of the month.

Strong first 2 seasons with Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge amongst the leads.

Series is set in the early-90s ...

Season 3 premiere is up on the streamers now, for those who are interested.

I believe the regular TV airing is this Sunday on Showtime.

Gonna check out the premiere with our other shows next week (Black Bird, Better Call Saul, etc).

Good news for Reservation Dogs fans (they just aired season 1 - episode 5). They've already been renewed for a 2nd season ...

Reservation Dogs” has been renewed for Season 2 at FX on Hulu.

The critically-acclaimed comedy series is still airing its first season, with the sixth episode set to debut on Sept. 6. The Season 1 finale will drop on Sept. 20. Season 2 will premiere in 2022.

The series stars D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Devery Jacobs, Paulina Alexis, and Lane Factor as four Indigenous friends growing up on a reservation in Oklahoma. Zahn McClarnon, Sarah Podemski, and Dallas Goldtooth also appear in Season 1.

“We couldn’t wait to share ‘Reservation Dogs’ with viewers and are thrilled that they seem to love it as much as we do. We’re happy to put in an early order for another season,” said Nick Grad, president of original programming for FX. “Sterlin Harjo delivered on his creative vision, partnering with Taika Waititi and the rest of the creative team, the brilliant cast and crew to create one of TV’s best new comedies and a groundbreaking showcase of representation and raw talent.”

What’s the verdict on this series?

Seems like the major networks are quicker to can shows based off ratings, etc. HBO Max and others seem to be better about letting shows run longer without worry of getting the axe. Are they maybe taking on too many new series as they build out their catalog of offerings?

Oh yeah the MALL back in the day....Arcades,Barnes and Noble,Orange Julius.......simpler times and great memories

WTF THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO GET A SEASON 3 ???

I was under that impression. Especially since money didn’t appear to be an issue with Amazon Prime backing, and it’s not a big budget show with a huge cast and major special effects. It’s people who are remotely stranded for the most part.

Black bird on Apple TV is another winner for apple

so well written
It’s another one I wished I had waited for it to finish before starting
Because I can not wait for the season finale

Yup. We were big on the sports and electronics stores, movie theater, book store, music places.
In terms of television if you were stuck home on Saturday nights at least there was USA Up All Night to look forward to..

One of my best memories growing up - we would have games on Saturday morning ... and if my parents were at work, my friend’s mom would take us out (2-3 people) for lunch or back to their place for same. Get cleaned up, chill out, watch wrestling. Cool ass mom. She always hosted the best birthday parties too. One time rented out a bus to drive all 15 - 20 of us around. Shoutout to Sherri!

Guardians of Justice
2022

6/10

This is a new superhero series that went up on Netflix some time ago.

It is a spoof of DC “Justice League”. It’s a mixture of live action and animation using a variety of styles from anime, stop-motion, 80s video games and other styles of animation.

The series is fast paced from start to finish, so if you suffer from TV ADHD, this series is for you. Not much for character and story development and nothing that comes as “filler” episodes. You will at some points have to rewind cuz of the fast pace of the series. It’s not the type of series you can get up to grab a beer and come back.

For the Gay Agenda trackers, there is lesbian action between two black characters. Not much is shown. You might enjoy the outcome. There is a male gay sub-plot that plays into the story. All that is shown is two men kiss in animation.

There are 7 episodes that run between 20 to 30 minutes each. You could binge it like a 2.5hr movie.

Former wrestler Diamond Dallas Page stars and does a good job. His acting could fit perfectly in the MCU or DC projects. There is another former wrestler who co-stars.

The series looks good visually being it is low budget. The various camera styles with animation makes it stand out. The series is full of B and D List recognizable actors.

This isn’t something to watch with small children. Lots of profanity, graphic violence and adult themes thru-out.

They left it off for a possible 2nd season

You looking for mindless, adult entertainment, this is it.

Synopsis

When their seemingly fearless leader self-destructs, troubled superheroes must confront evil in the world -- and in themselves.

So true and a few insiders said season 3 was a done deal. I guess the execs changed their minds and said put more money into Lord Of The Rings

oh there were some great shows on on Saturdays and late night. Im still trying to remember the show in which two laid back guys used to review horrible D level horror movies like Basket Case
