Joe Biden Loses Base as Black Voters Want Different 2024 Candidate: Poll

President Joe Biden is facing the potential loss of a part of his political base as a new poll indicated that a significant number of Black voters want a different Democratic presidential nominee in 2024.

Biden has repeatedly said that he intends to run for a second term in 2024. Biden, 79, is the oldest president in U.S. history and will be 81 on Election Day in 2024.
But 64 percent of Democratic voters said they would prefer another candidate as the party's nominee, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll conducted last week.

Only 26 percent said the party should renominate Biden, the poll found. :eek2:

Among Black voters, 43 percent said they think Biden should be the Democratic nominee in 2024. But in a sign that Biden's political base could be eroding, 47 percent of Black voters said they want a different Democratic presidential nominee in 2024.

The desire for a new candidate to lead the Democrats was most popular among younger voters: 94 percent of those under 30 said they wanted a different nominee.
Concerns about Biden's age ranked at the top of the list of reasons that voters want Democrats to find an alternative nominee, with 33 percent of respondents expressing that concern.

That was followed closely by dissatisfaction with Biden's job performance (32 percent). Another 12 percent said they would prefer someone new, while 10 percent said Biden was not progressive enough. Some also raised concerns about his ability to win in 2024 (4 percent) and his mental acuity (3 percent).

Biden was given a 33 percent job approval rating in the poll, which was conducted among 849 registered voters between July 5 and 7.

But Black voters did give Biden a higher rating—62 percent—than voters in any other race/ethnicity, age group or education level.

Unsurprisingly, an overwhelming percentage of Republican voters (89 percent) said they disapprove of how Biden is handling the job.

However, a majority of independents—68 percent—also disapprove of the president's performance.

Among Democrats, Biden's approval rating is a relatively low 70 percent—which could prove perilous as Biden seeks to turn out voters ahead in the 2022 midterms to maintain control of Congress.

Still, the poll found Biden narrowly ahead of Donald Trump if the 2024 election were a rematch of the 2020 race, with 44 percent of voters choosing Biden compared to 41 percent going with Trump.

Among Democrats, 92 percent would side with Biden if he were up against Trump in 2024.

Worries about the economy, inflation and gun policies have made many Americans pessimistic about the nation's future.

According to the poll, 77 percent of respondents say the U.S. is moving in the wrong direction—with similar numbers saying the same in every age range and racial group and both political parties.

Just 13 percent of Americans say the nation is on the right track, which is the lowest figure in the Times' polling since the financial crisis over a decade ago, the newspaper reported.

Newsweek has reached out to the White House for comment.

You and your right wing sources...I'm not reading this

So they’re now finding out, after putting him in office, that he’s not going to be their white savior?

What made you think he was gonna do anything for you and he different from any other president? Cause he said so? Biden has been so blatant with his neglect for niggaz who put him in office.

But @mangobob79 and @veritech and @geechiedan said he would do right by us if we just voted for him. They're were gonna hold him accountable after the 2020 election.

Clyburn, can you save him??

After giving billions to Ukraine and giving tangibles to the LGBT mafia and every other group except black folks I don’t see how anyone is still on the Biden train.

Democrats are stuck in the 90s where they think they can overpromise and underdeliver. Those days are gone and they will find out in the midterms and in 2024 when a lot of blacks stay home.

The only People that still buys the democrats promises are old black folks. The black youth are not buying it anymore and they will soon find out that they are not loyal like elder black folks.

The black boot licks days are numbered. When Biden got into office they were saying to give him time. So far he’s been giving his time to anybody but black Americans.

Dems don't even really have anyone that could run for the presidency and win right now. I heard Gavin Newson, but I don't think he can win; I feel he is too progressive (and not in a common sense way) to get the majority of votes . Kamala is done. Dems biggest problem is the old guard wanted to keep the power and never groomed the younger generation. I like Hakeem Jefferies, but I don't think he could win the presidency right now.

Well it was the Clintons that killed any up and coming competition in the Democratic Party. So that why the Democrats Bench is terrible.

Gavin Newson is too much of a costal elitie to win over middle America and swing districts.

Democrats better hope and pray trump runs because that's the only chance they have a shot at winning.

If the Republicans run a Ron DeSantis or any Generic Republican, They are finished in 2024.

Well it was already suppose to be that Biden was one and done.
Yet once people get a taste of such power. They want to hold on to it and that's why you have guys like Putin trying to be in for life. The problem is who's making a name for themselves in dem party like that fool DeSantis is doing in FL?

What america eats doesn't make other countries shit. Americas system is flawed so how are you critical of how another country does it?

Where was I being critical??? I gave an example of a person who tasted power and didn't want to leave.
Btw are you still living in the US?

OP did you read this part?

I sure as hell hope they don't try to push Kamala Harris on us. I'm sick of these so called black leaders and their white mates.
Just give me a white dude who can get shit done. A black candidate will get all of his shit blocked.
I love Obama, but all he did for 8 years was try not to piss off white folks. IMHO

Bootlickers came out the woodwork with whataboutisms. Like cats ain't laughing at the mean twitter man and his fam. They literally posting highlights of the mean man just because folks laughing at Biden. Like Biden don't have his own highlights.

Naw fam, some CLAIMED they didn't rock with Biden/Harris and only wanted the mean twitter man gone, but they licking boots and it shows.

Clyburn, can you save him??

You're wrong though! Clyburn is already out there doing his duty!!!

Rep. Clyburn talks about his future in party leadership, what Biden has done for Black voters.

Black voters turned out to put President Biden in office, but as we’ve seen over the past year and a half, he hasn’t been able to deliver on criminal justice reform, student debt relief or voting rights. Roe vs. Wade is no longer the law of the land, and Americans are struggling with inflation, as the Fed continues to raise interest rates. What’s your response to their concerns?

Well this may surprise you. I did five events [Sunday], starting at 7:30 a.m. in Virginia. Last weekend, I was in Arizona. This coming weekend, I’ll be in Ohio. Everywhere I go, here’s what I hear from people: Why don’t y’all spend time talking about all the things you’ve gotten done rather than let the conversation stay on what you have not done? It’s been a year and a half since Joe Biden has gotten to be president. He’s got two and a half years left in this presidency. Why is everybody judging his administration on a four-year program and only a year and a half has expired?

I said to them, “Do you think it was any benefit for Joe Biden to wipe out $1.6 billion in debt for the HBCUs in this country?” Over 100 HBCUs in this country. We wiped — Joe Biden, in his [American] Rescue Plan, took all that debt off the books because of COVID-19, they did not have students ... They did not know that. And so one of them got up and said: “Why won’t y’all tell us that? We didn’t know that.”

I can go down from the American Rescue Act. I can go to the bipartisan infrastructure bill. I can go to the omnibus appropriations bill and look at what we have done in the African American community. The glass is more than half full, and we keep talking about the glass being half empty. Let’s talk about what we’ve done, and the fact that we’ve got two and a half years left to do some more. The president signed the first major piece of gun legislation that has been signed in 30 years.

Everybody was dissatisfied with the Civil Rights Act of 1964. That’s why we kept fighting so we could get the Voting Rights Act of ’65. And we kept fighting so we could get the fair housing law of ’68. We kept fighting so we could get the Civil Rights Act of ’64 to apply to the public sector in 1972.

So you do not consider the first step as being the final step. So the president signed a bill, and the parents, the doctors, the siblings and one grandson of those people who got killed up in Buffalo, those people who got killed in Uvalde, these people are supporting this. :hmm:Who are we to sit back and say, “This ain’t enough”? No, it’s not enough, but are we supposed to sit down and argue about not being enough or do we chalk that up to the first step and do what is necessary to get to step two and step three? That’s what this is all about.

I’m the vote counter in the House. We ain’t lost one yet. We passed every single bill that the Black community said they wanted passed. :hmm:Every one, including the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. It passed the House. Everything has passed the House. It’s stuck in the Senate, where the Senate is 50-50. So the Senate is stalemated. We’ve got to go to the polls in November and get two or three other senators elected who will do what needs to be done. So you can sit back and talk about how old Joe Biden is or how old Jim Clyburn is. You better get to the polls and figure what we can do to get these laws passed.

So we have done things, and we will do things between now and then. So we passed the omnibus bill. Signed the gun bill [Monday]. We are going to sign a student loan bill. I don’t know what it’s going to be, but we are going to do something about student loans because the pause on payments will expire Aug. 31, and then come Sept. 1, we are going to have in place something to deal with student debt going forward. So we aren’t stopping here. We are going to pass a new appropriations bill. We’re going to also have another reconciliation bill coming forward, and we are going to fix things in this bill. We’re going to do something about putting a ceiling on pharmaceutical costs, the cost of pharmaceuticals. We have already passed a bill in the House to put a ceiling of $35 a month on insulin.

[Biden’s] also going to sign a bill soon to extend the Affordable Care Act to more people and hopefully cover — I’m trying to get him to cover all of those people in those 12 states that did not expand Medicaid. So we could do a lot of things between now and November to turn this around, and we will.

Yes!!! At that age, you're so out of touch with the real world, you can't successfully relate to the majority of society.
The problem is that the young folks are waiting around for somebody to hand them something vs taking power.
Locally there should be young fol building upma base to run for a council seat, then run for mayor, etc......
Yet all I keep hearing is how the older folks are not making it easy or bring up the younger folks. Stop complaining are start gaining.
