NBA 1978 full game Sixers v Celtics - no 3 point line - how does this style of play look to this generation?

Looks like middle age guys playing at the Y. Dr. J was a lil flashy at times. I like where no one was ball dominate though.

Also interesting to see those guys didn't have a 3 point line and still scored over 100 points. So what does that say about today's game?

All I can say is that for the folks that claim the NBA was rougher back in the days, most of that shit was created to try to slow down Jordan who was playing 2 times faster than the rest of the league. Prior to that, the NBA was soft and slow.

Shit to slow down Showtime...

Magic came in the next year and went to 9 of the next 12 finals...

The Bird Celtics were the first ones to play that rough house brand (racist NBA allowed it vs the Lakers), the Celtics and Knicks took it to another level vs M.J.
After M.J. the NBA did everything in its power to clean up the sport going back to it purer stage. But make no mistakes it was used to try to slow down the faster more athletic black players.

Rough play is the first tactic to deploy against better players. You beat the shit out of them, fuck moving your feet. When you eliminate that shit, you're just left with more athletic players. Who didn't do that shit at the playground? Old heads who couldn't keep up played rough as shit. Lazy young cats would play rough too.

As someone who watched showtime and the 90s, I don't get why people just can't appreciate this era. Coaches admit on tv that defense is so hard these days because these players have to cover so much so fast, but folks live in the 'back in my day' shit.

Man, watching those old celtics games with Russell is brutal, but in the 90s, old heads told us that was real ball and the 90s were soft. Said the league was watered down.

They would hire a goon to break brons legs so they would stand a chance, wouldn't work on Steph since he would still be able to shoot from the logo in a wheelchair lmao
but thats the thing...steph only shoots like that because theres incentive... without a 3 point line whats the point of lighting it up from the logo..other than shock value.

In my scenarios he's in a wheelchair after getting his legs broken. With two good legs Steph would poster those clowns lol ankles would literally be broken

The old team cant shoot for shit and modern dribbling is far more superior than back then so yeah destroyed.
Depends on whose rules your playing with...

I would say today players lack fundamentals to a certain degree ... how many times do players today get away with walking and traveling? Some of those awesome handles is palming and picking up their dribble. How many times do they move their pivot foot???

Players today get away with a Lot

They played faster!! Less play calling and less coaches calling plays. Basketball, to me, is improvising and that's what makes it beautiful. I think it gets bogged down when coaches call plays all the dam time...

The rules changed because the game got slower and bogged down. Also became very physical. So rules were created to speed up the game...

Did you watch the vid? Can’t shoot for shit? These nigs were hitting mad jump shots behind the 15 foot range, baseline shots etc,.. in fact most points came from jump shots from the various minutes I watched..hell 1 nig had 17 points first quarter..pretty much all jumpshots

Hell yeah it became physical. It's the only way to stay on the floor with better players. Hold them, hit them, just beat the shit out of them. Fuck moving feet and closing out. It's 'old man on the playground' defense.

I grew up in 80s and 90s. I'd love to say my era was better, but if I'm honest, it's not. Few like to admit it. It's a tradition.

The Pistons were the hardest...brah

Late 80s and 90s up to 2010 were the toughest periods. What are you trying to prove with this video. I still stand by my Steph would still ball but NOT as efficient back then as he does today.
