Discussion: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - confirmed Sam Raimi directing UPDATE: REVIEWS!

Lolz at cats fighting over which films are better, Marvel or DC..... meanwhile Image Comics is over there wishing they had a Cinematic Universe.....

I'm just happy to live in an era where filmmaking technology has made it possible to see these characters onscreen and enjoying shit for what it is....

Pure Entertainment.

Marvel has changed the way people view comic book movies. They’ve almost made it an EVENT.
I’ve seen most comic movies up to the when the MCU came into play and would say probably civil war was the turning point. Since then I’ve seen a change in the demographics of comic book movies.

hmmmm....

OK now you getting into muddy waters.

I agree just because something is POPULAR doesn't equate to good

but you can then say just because a FEW people like it

that makes it DEEP or underground etc?

I think the point Captain Marvel fans are making is more about the power of the dollar

something we SHOUT DAILY FROM THE ROOFTOPS TO BLACK FOLK

our MONEY matters, our dollars MATTER

Captain Marvel Wonder Woman etc had a LARGE AUDIENCE who wanted this type of entertainment

doesn't make them wack or woke or whatever

this is what THEY want

Disney Marvel GAVE it to them.

They ate it up

That is BUSINESS

This is what we learning now (again) niche markets MATTER

A rap artist doesn't HAVE to go POP

If they create a loyal active fan base cater to THAT?

You can make serious money

same goes for podcasts, YouTube channels and even newsletters

Stressing the NUMBERS in these arguments at least to me?

Is to show that our PERSONAL OPINION is not the be all end all

that there is a LARGE VOCAL other side you gotta acknowledge

and in addition if THEY think its "good"?

By definition it is for THEM.

You KNOW who one of my favorite MCs is...

but a lot of dudes on here would not agree.

Does that make me WRONG?

And if that MC goes platinum does that NOW make him good?

so if he NEVER goes platinum he wack?

Popularity, relevance etc are now VERY tricky metrics.
It is muddy
There's a lot of blind fanboy shit going on too
Someone was telling me on another board I wasn't a Marvel fanboy because I thought batman was a better movie than Dr strange.
You can be a fanboy and still be critical
That's true love imo
I think we've reached the Marvel can do no wrong stage
Some of this shit is a reflex back against the anti woke crowd too

I hear you.

But check it.

That is OK.

A fan is not SUPPOSED to be rational.

All these so called critical rational fans of sports and entertainment...

If they were REALLY so rational critical and emotionless?

They Wouldn't slavishly follow any of this bullsh*t in the first place.

Not only do the leagues owners studios and distributors consistently historically regularly screw over the audience

We the rational fans accept it

mouth and eyes open.

If you think Marvel the best so what?

If you happy I'm happy for you.

It's art it's subjective for the MOST part.

I'm a fan of ALL THIS.

And no one ELSE can dictate to me my level of commitment

I bought comics sold comics knew writers and artists and actors in movies about comics. So?

If I don't like it. I don't like it.

Sometimes things I loved I now hate and visa versa.

The your not a real fan crowd - I don't associate with people like that.

You shouldn't either.

Oh and...

About the woke stuff.

As a black man a father brother son blessed with friends and family of different races identity gender creed religion etc

None of that stuff really bothers me.

And anyone who really delves into that exposes themselves.

Secret?

Till this day if ANYONE famous or influential even says the word Haiti?

I lose it.

Real talk love it if they say they are Haitian or love Haiti?

Bro it's a wrap.

Why?

Growing up I was so teased in school and in my hood. And I never saw anyone who looked like me do certain things I was into.

I tell folks you don't understand the influence Wyckef had on me on a very personal level.

Earlier Black Panther, John Stewart, Luke Cage, Blade really shaped my self image.

Dwayne Wayne, Theo, Lavar Burton? You don't understand.

MANTIS on Fox?

MR. T? Tony Atlas?

What these kids don't understand?

All those people?

Would be accused of woke additions at that time.

So I understand girls and women loving Wonder Woman Captain Marvel Kate Bishop Harley etc etc

Who gives a F*CK if we like it?

It's for them.

Ain't no white man living or dead can tell me nothing about Dwayne Wayne. period

Or Black Panther.

Or Lucious Fox.

It ain't FOR THEM.

the whole well the character is poorly developed or written - but but but I don't care if they gay or not...

Bullsh*t

Cause there is a shit ton of poorly written straight Characters

Bad writing or acting that's one thing.

And I'm not saying they even doing a great job with introducing these gay characters

I'm saying leave the woke sh*t excuse

You don't like it don't watch it.

Isn't that what everyone says now days?

I saw my girls face at the end of Endgame when all the female heroes linked up

And I KNEW immediately

there would be a LARGE LOUD bitch made segment of fandom that would hate it

And good cause then I know who to keep kids away from.

Cause THAT moment was NOT for you.

But it COULD have been

They lose.

I feel you. I remember those times. Haitians had it bad down here too.

Bree Larson triggered a certain segment when she said what she said.

FIRE POST!!!!

I felt that

CAC conveniently left off the Black woman characters...

Just saying... :dunno:

Okoye
Shuri
Valkyrie
Spectrum
Multiverse Captain Marvel

You surprised?

Kinda makes my point.

They all have their own little agendas.

And they all think THEIR agenda is most important and not being addressed enough.

Imagine a corporation or even a creative having to navigate all that?

Stop the cap. One word....Hawkeye.

You have a strong bias towards Marvel. Your bias doesn't allow you to be objective.

Last few Marvel movies.
  • Black Widow
  • Shang Chi
  • The Eternals
  • Venom 2
  • Spiderman: No Way Home
  • Morbius
  • Dr Strange: Multiverse of Madness
Last few DC movies.
  • The Suicide Squad
  • The Batman
  • Joker
  • Zack Snyder's Justice League
  • Wonder Woman 84

To say DC is trash is shows your evaluation of films is warped. You can have a preference. But, to purport as being objective when you are not is disingenuous.

Look at ot this way. A person can love Fords. But, for that person to say that Chevy is "trash" would be for them to completely ignore the greatness of the Corvette and Camero. Conversely, I person can love Chevy. But for that person to say that Ford is "trash" I'd to ignore the greatness of the GT and the Mustang.

For those of us who are in the middle who like both Marvel and DC, yall super fans can be a chore at times. Lol!¡
Bro get your stupid ass out of marvel threads. Stay with the losers DC and Warner. You love to talk about nothing and bring up shit that ain’t no one saying. So get your ass outta here…

Took my son and BM to see Dr Strange in 3D for mother's day.

It was great! The chairs were comfy, the 3D glasses blocked out light from the stairwell and I was able to take the best nap I've had in a long time.

Honestly though, I don't know if the movie was good or not. Once you fall behind on the Marvel folklore none of these films make sense anymore.

Same thing applies to Harry potter, star wars, star trek, and a million other franchises the industry has been bleeding dry for decades.

Saw a crappy bootleg, the film is visually stunning at times but has pacing issues, found myself nodding out often. The concept of The Multiverse is handled rather clumsily like it was almost an after thought. The Illuminati scene was a real letdown too. Overall the film held my attention I liked Wanda being the villain and showing off how powerful she really is and America Chavez was fun to watch as well. That Army of Darkness like bullshit is what I hated the most I knew that was coming the minute Raimi was announced to direct. Anyway I'll be generous and give it 3 Stars(***) despite its flaws, it was still a serviceable sequel. Didn't see the after credits scene, the copy I had cut it off. As a bonus I was kinda glad to see Rachel McAdams down with the swirl, sorta had a thing for her.:p

Trying not to spoil the movie, I will say this. If you haven't watched Wanda Vision all the way through as well as the Dr. Strange What If and arguably the Captain America and Ultron What Ifs, do so before seeing this movie. It will give a few things more context. You do not have to watch the aforementioned pieces, but again, it will provide extra context.

IMO, the overarching story was kinda weak. Wanda could have ended everything in the 1st 5 minutes.

Really Wong???

Also, couldn't she have found a universe where the Wanda there was dead and the kids were orphans??

This definitely felt more like a Disney movie than any other MCU film. Shang Chi was close, but this had Disney written all over it.

Captain Marvel....I don't know what it is, I'm just not feeling her.

The first scene felt like Staro in TSS.

It is definitely not as good as the first. It's better than Black Widow and Eternals tho. I actually liked Shang Chi better. No shade.

Still, if you like comic based movies or the MCU in general, you should go see it.

Looks like a video game. I wasn't impressed with the first one and I won't watch the next chapter in the sahga of greedy white people in space and their war for resources against a race of tall smurfs.

Just curious, did you watch the first one at IMAX when it came out?
I heard the movie/story was nothing special...but it blew up because of the visuals when seen in 3D/Imax.

Doesn't mean it was a great movie Patrick
When's the last time anyone said I feel like watching that captain marvel again?
These guys are starting to sound like a certain group of rap fans, artist x is better than artist y because he went platinum.

Movie tastes and music tastes are highly subjective. You may not think it was good but a bunch did to the tune of $1.1 billion.

The issue is that 85% of the people saying it was bad are a bunch of white boys mad that a woman was the lead character.
