An analysis of satellite images by The New York Times rebuts claims by Russia that the killing of civilians in Bucha, a suburb of Kyiv, occurred after its soldiers had left the town.
When images emerged over the weekend of the bodies of dead civilians lying on the streets of Bucha — some with their hands bound, some with gunshot wounds to the head — Russia’s Ministry of Defense denied responsibility. In a Telegram post on Sunday, the ministry suggested that the bodies had been recently placed on the streets after “all Russian units withdrew completely from Bucha” around March 30.
Russia claimed that the images were “another hoax” and called for an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting on what it called “provocations of Ukrainian radicals” in Bucha.
But a review of videos and satellite imagery by The Times shows that many of the civilians were killed more than three weeks ago, when Russia’s military was in control of the town.
One video filmed by a local council member on April 1 shows multiple bodies scattered along Yablonska Street in Bucha. Satellite images provided to The Times by Maxar Technologies show that at least 11 of those had been on the street since March 11, when Russia, by its own account, occupied the town.
To confirm when the bodies appeared, and when the civilians were likely killed, the Visual Investigations team at The Times conducted a before-and-after analysis of satellite imagery. The images show dark objects of similar size to a human body appearing on Yablonska Street between March 9 and March 11. The objects appear in the precise positions in which the bodies were found after Ukrainian forces reclaimed Bucha, as the footage from April 1 shows. Further analysis shows that the objects remained in those position for over three weeks.
The causes of death are unclear. Some of the bodies were beside what appears to be an impact crater. Others were near abandoned cars. Three of the bodies lay beside bicycles. Some have their hands bound behind their backs with white cloth. The bodies were scattered over more than half a mile of Yablonska Street.
A second video taken on Yablonska Street shows three more bodies. One lies beside a bicycle, another near an abandoned car. Satellite imagery shows that the abandoned cars and the nearby body appear between March 20 and 21.
These are just some of the civilian bodies discovered since Saturday. The Associated Press published images of at least six dead men lying together in the rear of an office building, some with hands tied behind their backs. The building is one mile west of the other victims found along Yablonska Street.
Another mile further along, a photographer with The Times discovered the body of a man with a gunshot wound to his head lying beside a bicycle.

Oleksandr Hunko, a writer, journalist and the Editor of Nova Kakhovka Citi, was seized by Russian soldiers on 3 April, shortly after he published information and a video of the invaders’ brutal dispersal of a demonstration against Russia’s occupation. Given the torture that a fellow journalist, Oleh Baturin was subjected to, there are serious grounds for concern, especially as Hunko is 69 years old.
Hunko’s daughter reported on 3 April that the armed Russians had first carried out a search of their apartment, because taking her father away. His whereabouts remain unknown. Dementiy Bily, Head of the Kherson Committee of Voters of Ukraine, who first informed of the abduction, points out that the raid on Hunko came just four hours after he posted information about the 3 April pro-Ukrainian demonstration in Kakhovkawhich ended when the Russians began shooting into the air from machine guns and also hurled stun grenades into the crowd. There were reports of injuries, with people being kicked and beaten. The report referred to “Russian occupation virtually since the beginning of Russia’s total war against Ukraine” and ended by pointing out that, despite this, residents often hold pro-Ukrainian rallies, demanding that the Russians get out of the city.
All of this was entirely accurate, but also very courageous given the methods that Russia is using, both against dissent in general, and against those who tell the truth and use the correct terminology, rather than Kremlin euphemisms, about Russia’s war. On occupied territory, these methods are increasingly including abductions and torture.
As reported, Oleh Baturin, a journalist from Kakhovka, was seized by the Russians on 12 March, shortly after he reposted information about Russian plans to try to orchestrate a so-called ‘referendum’ on forming yet another pseudo ‘people’s republic’. Baturin was released only eight days later, after torture and threats that the Russian would harm his family.
The Russians had already seized a Nova Kakhovka civic activist Serhiy Tsyhipa, and tortured him into calling Baturin and arranging the meeting which was, in fact, a trap. Baturin toldthe UK-based Observer that, during the eight days of his captivity, the Russians had brought in lots of prisoners, many of them people who had defended Ukraine in Donbas, and that he had heard them being tortured.
On 4 April, the Head of the Kherson Committee of Voters of Ukraine issued an appeal, in Ukrainian and English, to the International Committee of the Red Cross. The appeal states that in areas temporarily under Russian occupation, and particularly in the Kherson oblast, the Russian invaders are kidnapping Ukrainians and subjecting them to beatings and torture. While the number of those abducted is unknown, “eyewitnesses give examples of dozens of cases when the occupiers go to people's apartments and houses, conduct illegal searches, grab people, beat them. Peaceful citizens are defenceless against brute force. They are not provided with legal assistance, judicial protection, their basic human rights and freedoms are ignored. The occupiers keep kidnapped people in prison cells in Kherson. The fate of many civilians has been unknown for many days.”
The author points out that, in order for the International Red Cross to become involved, the families of those who have been abducted need to contact the help line of the Red Cross Mission in Ukraine (on 0800 300 155). Even Russia recognizes the rights of the International Red Cross, including to visit places of detention.
The number of public officials, civic activists and journalists seized by the invaders is increasing all the time. At present, two journalists – Iryna Dubchenko from Rozivka in Zaporizhzhia oblast and UNIAN journalist Dmytro Khyliuk – are believed to be held prisoner by the invading forces, while a third, Kostiantyn Ryzhenko, has been forced into hiding after the Russians came looking for him.

The post said two Russian troops were killed and 28 were in intensive care after being given poisoned cakes in the city of Izium. Another 500 Russian troops were taken to hospitals due to heavy alcohol poisoning, according to the post.
Officials said the Russian government is writing off these cases as "non-combat losses."
The post also said that Ukrainian civilians were resisting the Russian forces by all available means.
Insider could not independently verify the poisonings.

"In a situation like this we should be aware that there are such sanctions. A great deal is being said about the banking sector. Gas, oil, SWIFT. It’s worse than war. Russia is being pushed towards a third world war. We should be very reserved and steer clear of it. Because nuclear war is the end of everything," Lukashenko said.
He stressed that Belarusian high-tech enterprises might help Russia obtain substitutes for Western and Asian microchips.
"The United States is the sole beneficiary of what is happening here. In this way Europe can be shown its place and competitors eliminated," he said.
Lukashenko stressed that Russia and the United States were the United States’ main rivals.
"This is the problem they are addressing. They have gone as far as war," the Belarusian leader said.
"What is happening today is urging us to cooperate tightly. For instance, they have warned Russia that they will terminate the supplies of high-tech equipment, first and foremost, microchips and so on, which we make at our industrial association Integral (Belarusian manufacturer of microchips and LCD indicators - TASS). U.S. defense assistance to Ukraine will be delivered in the largest possible volumes and as quickly as possible.
That’s according to John Kirby, spokesman for the Department of Defense, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“There'll be another one arriving in the next 24 hours. We're prioritizing the kinds of capabilities in those shipments that we know the Ukrainians need the most -- Javelins, Stingers, UAVs,” Kirby said.
The official noted that the aid was being prioritized, adding that the goal is to keep the assistance going “as fast as we can, as much as we can,” to make sure that “the Ukrainians can continue to defend themselves.”

The Russian forces are regrouping troops and focusing their efforts on preparing an offensive operation in the east of Ukraine.
That’s according to an operational update regarding the Russian invasion as of 06:00 on April 5, Ukrinform reports.
“The goal is to establish full control over the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The Russian enemy is trying to improve the position of units in the Tavriya and Pivdennobuzhsky operational areas,” the report reads.
“The units withdrawn from Polissya and Sivershchyna are moving to new operational areas. The redeployment of troops of the Central Military District from the territory of Ukraine has been completed. The designated units of the above, after the completion of the restoration of combat capability, will be moved to the area of the settlement Valuyki and included in the offensive groups of troops,” the General Staff wrote.
The movement of columns of armaments and military equipment on the territory of Belarus in the direction of the railway stations Gomel, Yelsk, and Mozyr for loading onto rail cars. A significant part of the aircraft and helicopters of Russia’s air and space forces were relocated from Belarus airfields to Russia.

“In the Donetsk and Luhansk areas, the Russian occupiers are focusing their efforts on taking control of the Popasna and Rubizhne districts, establishing full control over Mariupol, and preparing offensive operations near the Zolota Nyva settlement,” the report reads.
In the areas of Borivske, Novoluhanske, Solodke, Marinka, and Zolota Nyva, the enemy continued artillery shelling of Ukrainian Army positions and civilian infrastructure.

The Russian troops carried out attacks on Mykolayiv, using cluster munitions proscribed by the Geneva Convention. Civilian quarters and medical facilities, including a children's hospital, came under enemy fire. A number of civilians, including children, were killed and injured in the strikes.
Meanwhile, the Russian occupying forces continue to suffer losses. They have huge issues with replenishing combat and support units with manpower. The enemy soldiers are demoralized, which led to an increase in the number of desertions and disobedience.
I Don’t think that’s all tanks, just cause it have track don’t mean it’s a tank
