Georgia State Law makes it illegal to do business with GA if you boycott Israel

Gov. Brian Kemp signed a measure into law Monday that requires businesses with significant state contracts to sign an oath pledging not to boycott Israel.

The governor signed the legislation months after a federal judge struck down a similar 2016 law requiring state contractors to sign the oath on grounds that it violated free speech rights. That challenge was brought by a documentary filmmaker who refused to sign the pledge.

The legislation aims to counter the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement that protests Israel’s policies regarding Palestinians. Georgia was among the first of dozens of states to enact such a law, which largely passed along party lines in the GOP-controlled Legislature in 2016.

The opponents pointed out that U.S. District Judge Mark Cohen ruled that the anti-boycott pledge that the documentarian was asked to sign was “no different than requiring a person to espouse certain political beliefs or to engage in certain political associations.”

Supporters of the bill argue that it does not stymie free speech. The bills co-sponsor Senator Marco Rubio (R-Florida) tweeted: "Opposition to our bill isn’t about free speech. Companies are FREE to boycott Israel. But local and state governments should be free to end contracts with companies that do". Eugene Kontorovich who has helped states draft anti-BDS laws has argued that they aren't about free speech, but that those wishing to boycott Israel should not benefit from government contracts or taxpayer money.

In other words...

Pretty please promise that you won't boycott Israeli businesses just because they're in Israel. Instead, refuse to do business because the price is too high, or you found a better service, or the competitor you're doing business with is a fifth cousin once or twice removed.

Do whatever the hell you want, just don't say it's because of the whole Palestine thing.

So as long as I use Wix for my website I'm good?

This governor of Georgia is extremely desperate also this bill is going to impact some of his racist supporters with businesses who are antisemitic.

Like most things nowadays in government these people are getting campaign contributions that have led to laws like this.
I saw a Toyota commercial over the weekend that triggered me. Do you remember that Toyota was the first company that resumed contributions to the republicans after the attempted coup?

Talk about hypocrisy, the overwhelming majority of white Americans don't even like Jews. But I guess they're able to put their hatred on hold as long as Jews wield economic power to the degree they do and are just killing brown people.

Far too many laws are being written by judges. This is goofy idea that a John Roberts can get behind.

Not surprising. And now they're all back to business as usual.
I remember The Young Turks running a story about how some Pro Israel Democratic PAC contributed something like 2 million dollars to the Congressional campaign of Shontel Brown when she ran against Nina Turner in a special election last year in Ohio. And the seat is back up for grabs this year.

Money is free speech until/unless you mess with the monied businesses business.

Those people are being distracted with culture war bullshit like mandates and the Canadian truckers and critical race theory. And the Squad being socialists who want to give all our money to immigrants and the poor instead of to Israel and defense contractors

Words from the supreme judges of the land. The Supreme Court is almost as bad as the politicians at this point. Actually they're worse because they don't have to worry about being reelected or needing to fund a campaign
You're going to be pissed when you realize that the “separation” between the branches of government is farcical then you're going to finally get that these culture wars are planned skirmishes. When you see toothless white men bemoaning governmental assistance, don't think of cutting off your nose to spite your face but as dying in friendly fire.

They want black people to fight for voting voting laws when most of the advancements in this country has been because of activist judges. That were nominated by politicians.

The system is corrupt doesn't capture of the synergy of the oppression.
