I don't understand why Donnie Long's guard was so open... His stance looked pretty bad

Donnie thought he was going to get Mike to come inside & pepper him with jabs. So he left the guard open as "bait".
But Mike was too fast & too efficient inside for Donnie.
Donnie had no backup plan, end result, knockout.
Those early Tyson days were the best. He was like a bull in a China shop. Everything went downhill after Cus passed and other hands got a hold of him.
You know the night's not going well when after that left by Tyson that put down Long the first time, both announcers can only say "Oh, my!"
