The Witcher boss explains why there's less sex and nudity in season 2
The Witcher boss Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has been talking about why there's less sex and nudity in season 2 of the hit Netflix fantasy drama.
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy ahead of season 2's launch on Friday (December 17), Hissrich addressed the noticeable changes.
When asked whether the decision to limit sex and nudity this time around was deliberate or if it was part of the story, Schmidt Hissrich confirmed it was indeed part of the story and how it evolved.
"I feel the same way about sex, nudity, violence, and all of those things, that they have to be story-driven," she explained. "I think that using those things to shock audiences is a really cheap way for a writer to get attention to a specific scene.
"I've always said that if someone has to be having sex behind you to make the scene interesting, then I'm not doing my job. The person who's talking in a scene needs to be the focus."
The producer and screenwriter also explained that in season two of The Witcher, the story is not about romantic relationships in any way.
"The story is much more about the evolution of a family. And so we didn't need to have a lot of sex. We didn't need to have a lot of nudity," she continued.
"I think you feel it as a whole in the show. But as soon as you think about what the stories are, you think: where would that have been?
"It would have been gratuitous, because we would have thrown it in there to be sexier, or to have people talk. And that's just not of interest to me."

I like that the story was more coherent. And if you haven't put dozens of hours into the games, you missing out. I don't know what your gaming setup is, but the Witcher 3 is immersive as hell period, but with the right setup it's crazy.
