Keith Lee says the Bearcat gimmick was not his idea

When Keith Lee returned to action a few weeks back with the “Bearcat” nickname, there was a lot of talk about who came up with the nickname. Some assumed that Lee came up with the name but that was not the case at all.
Following the news of his release from WWE, Lee responded to a fan who claimed that the gimmick was Lee’s idea. Lee quickly shot that down and said, “No. It was not. Lol.”
The nickname was first used by Edward “Bearcat” Wright, a wrestler who was popular in the 50s and 60s. He was inducted posthumously into the Legacy wing of the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2017 so it’s possible that someone in WWE remembered the name and decided to use it for Lee.
As for Lee’s status, since he was a main roster talent, he’s likely under a 90-day non-compete so he won’t be free to sign with another wrestling company until February. Lee’s wife Mia Yim was also among the 18 names released today.

Not saying they're in a rush but they lack black talent can put the top strap on. Daunte is years away. Lio Rush could retire again at any point. They didn't do anything with Scorpio Sky when he was on a hot run.

That's exactly why I hate that whole argument because basically it's damned if they do, damned if they don't.

People want a black world champion, but then the second they make a black man the world champion, them same people that was crying gone be like "oh they only gave it to him because he's black."

How do I know? Because they already do that with Scorpio and Nyla. If you mention that out of 17 championship reigns from four belts in two years, AEW has had two black champions, they marginalize them like "well, Scorpio was just a tag team champ and his partner was white, and they only gave it to Nyla because he a transformer and he's Native American, too."

Then when you mention how they don't have main event level black male talent because most of the best black wrestlers in the world are already signed somewhere, and Shawn Dean and Shotty Lee have shown no personality just like most of Cody's people, and Scorpio is boring, and Ricky has a broken neck, and Hobbs done had his head rocked in at least 2 of his last 3 TV matches, but somehow he's should be working matches with Kenny Omega and Danielson taking hella V-triggers, knee strikes, dragon-ranas and snap germans and shit. And the rest of the brothers are tag team wrestlers - they don't wanna hear none of that.

And then when we mention black wrestlers in the indy scene they could sign and immediately push to the main event scene, and could headline a marquee, put on a great match, and can cut a good promo, and is over with the fans already - then it's "well they still probably won't do it because he black..."

Like it has to start from somewhere. They either gotta sign a main eventer or develop one, either way, it's gone take some time. It'll happen at some point.

I think people are just impatient because they've been jaded by WWE.

Kofimania was supposed to be Ali-mania. MVP had to produce his ass off to get Bobby taken seriously because the best idea Vince and 'em could come up with for Bobby after two years was a PG-version of a Blacked.com storyline. And Big E is champ now because Vince is so inept at getting white boys over (especially when they're real life pieces of shit) that he had no fuckin' choice but to put it on the most over nigga on the roster who got there by being himself. One of the few people allowed to be themselves and show that he has the charisma to be a celebrity and a movie star, just like how The Rock had to.

That's what happened the last 3 quarters. WWE is not losing money so for them to claim budget cuts is horseshit. They don't wanna invest in their own future.

They are, if you look at the direction they've gone...its no more indie darlings with a focus on creating their own. People who've come up exclusively through their system. It cost $652k a week for each show just to get the production trucks to each city...that's why there's rumors of them going back to Florida for good for both shows. The gates in California makes it dumb to keep going on the road for live shows until the pandemic is completely over or restrictions are loosened nationally. They spending $2M+ a week on shows that have combined gates of 9k...that's dumb. Also dumb to have so much roster fat, so they're trimming. It's going to be the best thing for the industry as a whole if other companies can get a handle on things. If P was serious about HOG, now would be a great time to invest in talent.

it wasnt enough to kill the old NXT
Vince & Company want to burn its memory to the ground...outside of Braun, Nia Jax, Lana. Rusev & Bray almost every name on the list was on NXT or peaked while on NXT

oh well happy to have the Mannings on Monday nights and my Knicks (Bing! Bong!)

FUCK WWE

Sad day for so many wrestlers and the industry as a whole. I don't see how anybody can defend this company at this point but despite these releases WWE stans will continue to watch and support the product like nothing happened. Vince is probably thinking to himself I can do whatever the fuck I want and they'll still watch.

It sucks they got released but at the same time it doesn't effect WWE's programming. They weren't doing shit with those wrestlers anyway.

When it comes to WWE cuts...I find myself being upset by their booking then them actually being fired.

I could start a wrestling company by adding the likes of Bray, Braun, Eric Rowan, Keith Lee and Karrion Kross.

Add these 5 to AEW plus Mia Yim and Nia Jax to the women's division. It might be a wrap for WWE. I'm surprised Askua survived. Be honest Nia Jax vs NYLA Rose. Keith, Lee vs Powerhouse Hobbs, Mia Yim vs Thunder Rosa, Ember Moon vs Britt Baker. The WWE wrestlers are alot more polished then AEW wrestlers. It's just that AEW has a more exciting brand. Bray Wyatt vs Braun would be a PPV main event. Kross vs Omega. Vince really fumbled the bag on this one and Tony has yet to pick up the ball for fear of upsetting the originals and burying the likes of Miro, Darby Moxley, they will all become second tier or mid card talent

Let’s be honest though….WWe can develop new talent. They let them go because they could. We not talking about getting rid of The Rock or Stone Cold in their prime. This is like Marvel letting Terrence Howard go. They can just go and get a Don Cheadle.

Damn, some bloodletting by WWE today. Looks like they're trimming the fat before the end of the year.
Not surprising to see Keith Lee get let go. I think we all saw it heading in this direction at some point.
Shocked to see Nia Jax get let go considering her family connections, but absolutely deserving because she's out of shape, sloppy, dangerous, and can't work.
I never really saw too much in Ember Moon. She's just kind of there, nothing special.
Of all the releases, if I'm Tony Khan, I've got my eyes on Karion Kross. He can be a star if he's used correctly.
I don't know what the fuck WWE was thinking with the gimmick they gave him on the main roster. SMH
Yea this is mad crazy. Ember moon had a great run in NXT so I’m confused about her. The matches with asuka were great. Karrion was just hitting his stride. But at this point nothing should surprise us. If they let bray go (who was the top star in wwe IMO I’m sorry) everyone else is a target too. Thank goodness we got other options than wwe

WWE has not created any stars in a long time.

Last one was John Cena. Roman Reigns may he the last one.

Looking at all the cuts, one thing that they all have in common is, none of those let go were ever any real "needle movers"....

I mean, let's keep it real, Keith Lee was good in the ring but had a bad character. You can't blame that solely on WWE. He's partially to blame as well.

Karrian/Killer Kross, good character that was crapped on when moved to the main roster, however, again, he people didn't care to see him. Plus, I suspect he's one of the ones who got cut for not being vaccinated.

As wrestling fans, we hate to see all these talents let go, but none of the guys released were selling tickets nor causing people to tune in.

These are minor players in the minor league but sending them to the competition will elevate their talent pool and recognition to the casual wrestling fan.

Ember Moon/Keith Lee fits the AEW smart mark audience.

The others will not technically the best wrestlers while in the WWE will look great in the other promotion

Yeah it’s a business they don’t give a damn about the people they cut. I think Bray was the one guy they invested a lot in and cut but shit to show how disposable they thought he was they just gave his gimmick to Alexis.

I don’t think this sways anything in regards to competition. AEW already has plenty of talent that are of their caliber….
