you mean after Richard, Redd, Lenny, Carlin, Mooney/Moms/Bill? How can this be? While DC is funny, he is not changing the comedy game the same as those before him. He tells jokes and quiet as it kept, DC is seemingly on the same path as Richard was on after his trip to africa. You know where you mix social commentary with jokes.
Chappelle has all of them beat.
As much as I loved Carlin, he wasn’t even funny. He was just social commentary, and you made it seem as if that’s a bad thing.

Part of the "act" of a comedian is to convince you, he's just coming off his top when he's been rehearsing for that very scenario. I like DC but to call him a great or in the top 5 is a bridge too far for me. You can cross it but I can't.
His peers as well many fans feel that he’s Great”, I think he can live with you not thinking that he’s great.

No, I was simply challenging your top 5 comment. It's subjective, so need to get into some gangsta shit but DC is doing the social commentary thing heavily with the jokes interspered instead of flat out funny as jokes. Peep DC from when he started (straight joke sets) to where he is at now (commentary with jokes) and you can see his evolution but that doesn't make him in the top 5. I would argue that Dane Cook (yeah that comedian from yesterday a long time ago) have a better body of work but then again, comedy is subjective, so we good.

I'm a comedian and what you are saying is definitely true. However, there are a few comedians that can do it off the cuff.
You can't name another comedian ever , prepared or not that could command a stage for 4 hours...

Dave Chappelle is funny to me. The social commentary he mixed with the comedy in a way that is better than George Carlin in my opinion but on that same level. He makes you think the same way George Carlin did
Every comedian worth their salt took some cues from the comedians who came before them. Could there be a Dave Chappelle without a George Carlin? We will never know
Looking forward to how or if he’s evolved. He’s notorious for gay, jerk off, and weed jokes. I’ll put Dave in the top 5 if not just outside of it simply for one rule: comedy is who and what he is. For me, if you do more movies or quit once you got movies, I can’t put you in the top 5, and, yes that means Eddie Murphy. Eddie was smart to get out early and is a legend, but not top 5 because he didn’t continue it. Patrice didn’t have enough in the can, so I’ll put him at the best comedian they never blew up, ever. Burr is second. I could watch Patrice read a menu. He was just too real.
