N.C. dealership in Lumberton calls black woman “Bon Quisha” after purchasing her 1st car

You’re smarter than that and took it to a place where intended to go.

I like syrup and I’m sure that Trinity does too, but titling her picture “Aunt Jemima bought a new car” is insulting.

You know that though.

You did not read where I said the insult is obvious. Or read where I said thats not the point of what I am saying because thatso obvious.

The question is why do you think Bonquisha is ugly name? This is self hate given to the white man as a weapon. Think my brother, your smarter than pointing out the obvious over and over.

her not liking it isnt my point. Its offensive and no one is arguing that. Even tho again I do argue it does not go viral if he calls her Julie. Do you agree with that? Making this about the name Bonquisha. Why does a white guy know he can call an African woman an African name and cause pain?

if she were asian and he called her ling ling (chinese) but she's korean or vietnamese (at least not chinese)..she would be equally offended. for that matter his race or ethnicity isn't really germane since he could have been asian or latino or indian etc and made the same comment to the same effect.

in fact if he were black and made that comment then its less of race issue and more of a class issue since bonquisha tends to be the type of name associated with poor black people (re: ghetto) and there in lies the crux of the issue. How names connect to perception.

This has nothing to to with the self hate of a name.

my brother you just repeated everything I said.

Im going to say it again. Fuck who typed the word on FB. We all agree its intent was to offend, ok pass that now. The point is....WHY is Bonquisha percieved that way. And WHO gave it that perception. That is the actual Crux of the issue. Thank you.

Why have we taken African names and made them mean "ghetto, poor, ugly" like i said before.

We know that stereotypes have a foundation of truth. But we have supported this stereotype. And we need to be the ones not only to say you not going call that sister out her name, but you also not going to take an African name and reinforce the stereotype that Black People with AFrican names are broke, poor, and ugly.

I believe the perception is crude and unsophisticated. Isn't this the issue with Sha'Carri Richardson? The excessive tats, profanity, the way she talks, the bright colored hair and long nails along with the unconventional, not common american name...all feeds a perception of that "kind" of black person.

Where does it come from? eurocentrism..a convention we've all been conditioned to believe that anything NOT white or upper-class European based (cuz class is a definite factor) is crude and unsophisticated.

But that kind of thing isn't white only...you can go anywhere in the world and see that play out.

remember cholas?

call a mexican girl who isn't into that a chola and see what reaction you get.

I think I can understand a bit of what you found funny. Possibly that they actually had the audacity to put the name “Bon Quisha” in the title. If that’s what you mean, I kinda get it.

Thats all I was saying. I myself thought I stated it perfectly when I said: "I laughed bcuz I didnt really think they had the nerve to actually say/write that. Obviously they did."

Absolutely crude and unsophisticated, great discussion. And Sha'Carri is a great example. The white people not liking it is archetypal truth. Whites are scared of it and the power all those things bring. Its the Blacks that dont like it that are the issue. Their conformity has become hype bound and unable to adapt with current achievements of woman like her. Blacks comments against Bonquisha or Sha'Carri are jettisoned with cracka dogmatism.

But your Chola example doesnt jive. Theres no girl name chola. Chola is a group of people choosing to look and act a certain way. Like Biker gangs. its a nickname given internally that they proudly wear. You cant make fun of Chola. One they will say "Hell yeah Im a chola" and then they will beat you up for trying to take the name they gave their group and trying to use it and disrespect them.

Bonquisha is just one female name. At some point it went from a beautiful name given to Black Women to becoming the way any and everyone including us mock a "ghetto" black women. And here lies the issue. We need to get into the brain and change our perception aparatis on so many levels. We have not only lost the value of things that are ours, but have used it to bring hurt to ourselves.

well isn't that what happens when a person gets cut off from shit?

But then again theres the thing with Karen and Becky or calling a white man Skip or Chad or Poindexter names that invoke a type of personality or behavior thats to be mocked. Is it to the same degree? no but its in the same realm. It cuts deeper for Black americans because of the constant drumbeat of anything from Africa is for shit and bad...thats all we've ever heard and were taught.

As far as the chola thing my point was call a mexican girl who ISN'T into that a chola or call a non-mexican latina a chola and its an insult.

We demonized these names. Now crackers are taking what we told them we are not proud of to insult us. A Cracker calls us an African name, and we have disconnected so heavily from the power of our AFrican names, we now see as a stupid, ignorant, and ugly.

we made these names mean something bad thru our comedy and music. Extremely ignorant characters on Black Comedy shows Like Shanaynay, and Wanda on in living color.

Bonquisha, should not be any less of an insult as Julie. But it is. A cracker using a African name against an African sister actually is smh. This confusion we have of our identity needs to get cleaned up, but in the mean time i hope she sues them and gets big time paid.
Always one.

It absolutely is what happens. But im having to play devils advocate to get a discussion about it.

I was watching brother polight speak on the word Christ coming from Khriein (meaning to anoint) and that being taken from Kemet. It goes from an African word to a Greek word Mixed with Hebrew to eventually get us to Christ. We can chart Bonquisha a similar way. From South Africa to African Americans wanting to identify with there mother continent. Its a beautiful thing. Yet most blacks, especially now, would laugh at a person named Bonquisha today.

And you said it and I totally agree Karen/becky/poindexter match a stereotype personality, but it just dont hit as hard as bonquisha.

Big up yourself king

Always one.

is it the I hope she sues and gets crazy paid. non reading ass niggas Smh

I talked about this earlier. How comedy was huge in supporting the stereotypes and giving them African names. its a shame
And they used a white girl.

I never see a “person” act like that.

What source material was used for that skit?
