With her contract set to expire amid a tumultuous NBA Finals for ESPN, Maria Taylor reportedly has a roughly $3 million salary offer on the table to remain at the network.
She also has other suitors.
The New York Post's Andrew Marchand reported Thursday that ESPN offered the 34-year-old reporter and TV host a roughly $2 million raise over her current yearly salary of $1 million.
The report arrives as the network deals with the fallout from reporter and host Rachel Nichols' 2020 comments suggesting that Taylor, who is Black, was awarded her job as "NBA Countdown" host during the Finals because of a diversity effort rather than her merits.
Nichols, who is white, had shared hosting duties with Taylor during the 2019-20 regular season and expected to host the show during the Finals.

Nichols made the comments not realizing she was being recorded while in the NBA bubble in June 2020. Taylor has reportedly refused to work directly with Nichols since her comments were internally leaked at ESPN. Her comments went public Sunday in a New York Times report, more than a year after they were made and two days before Game 1 of the Finals.
Nichols was replaced as the network's sideline reporter for the Finals by Malika Andrews after the Times' report. According to the Times, ESPN didn't initially discipline Nichols for her comments but suspended a Black woman producer who internally shared the recording, fueling speculation that Taylor is unhappy with ESPN's treatment of Black employees. Taylor has not addressed the issue publicly outside of a Wednesday tweet referencing "dark times."
Taylor's contract ends before potential Game 7
Taylor's contract will expire July 20, the same day Game 6 of the Finals will be played, if needed. The uncertainty of Taylor's contract status looms large over the network's coverage.
Will she be satisfied with ESPN's reported $3 million offer? Will she be comfortable working for the network after the Nichols fallout?
According to Marchand, Taylor has options. NBC and Amazon are both interested in hiring Taylor, according to the report. Taylor has a strong background covering football and could presumably join NBC's NFL and college football coverage or Amazon's team covering the NFL with its upcoming "Thursday Night Football" package.

Ariel Helwani is leaving ESPN on June 15, he announced Sunday.
The MMA reporter for the network maintained it was an amicable split, as his three-year contract he signed in 2018 expired.
"I want to let you know that there's no hard feelings here. ESPN did offer me a new contract," Helwani said in a video posted on Instagram. "I signed for 3 years back in 2018. They offered me a new contract. I was given the opportunity to look at what was out there for me and I found a lot of exciting opportunities and a lot of things that think the fans will really like and be pumped about, as I am as well. I'm not quite ready to announce that.
"I'll tell you about that soon."
Helwani expressed gratitude for opportunities at ESPN, saying it was "a dream come true ... I have no regrets." The Montreal, Canada native hosted a podcast called "Ariel Helwani's MMA Show" and other shows "Ariel & The Bad Guy" and "DC & Helwani" with former UFC champion Daniel Cormier.
In addition to being a top voice in the MMA space, Helwani served as a sideline reporter during NBA games, which he looked back on fondly in his farewell video.
Helwani commands a massive social media presence, boasting 1.1 million followers on Instagram and approaching one million on Twitter.

Yesterday, news broke that UFC reporter Ariel Helwani was likely leaving ESPN, with a gambling-related company his probable destination.
Today, a new report (also from Andrew Marchand at the New York Post) includes the fact that Helwani was offered a new deal to remain at ESPN, but that he would have had to take a pay cut to do so.
Obviously there was no way Helwani would be staying at even just a flat rate, much less a cut of any number. So, why would ESPN be unwilling to even try to compete with outside opportunities in this case? Helwani is a big name in MMA reporting, and his social following is such that he brings his own audience with him, to a degree. He’s a valuable asset, in a sport that is a big source of ESPN+ subscribers.
For one thing, UFC boss Dana White has never liked Helwani. Marchand’s reporting is clear to note that wasn’t a factor, and that both ESPN and Helwani would have been open to him staying on. It wasn’t a force out at the behest of a rights partner. But it probably didn’t help incentivize ESPN to offer what it would have taken to keep Helwani in-house.
That rights deal is another big factor, too; for the company as a whole, ESPN+ is a huge deal going forward. UFC is a big part of that, and as such the revenue driven in the form of subscription fees matters a lot more to ESPN than whatever traffic Helwani might bring to digital spaces. ESPN knows Helwani will be going somewhere else, and taking his audience with him, but he’ll still be covering the UFC, and if his audience wants to watch, they’ll still have to subscribe to ESPN+. Having Ariel Helwani covering the sport is still good for ESPN, whether they’re paying him to do it or not.
For Helwani, the benefit is obvious: the money is going to be a lot more, even if he’s no longer working for just one centralized company.
Taking these factors into account, it becomes more obvious why ESPN would be okay letting Helwani walk, and why Helwani would be secure in testing the waters.
It is, though, something to monitor, especially in the wake of Kenny Mayne also being offered a pay cut after decades of service.

Disney will increase the price of its ESPN+ subscription from $5.99 to $6.99 a month beginning in August, an ESPN+ spokesperson confirmed on Monday.
With the new price increases, a yearly subscription to ESPN+ will cost $69.99 a year, up from $59.99, next month. The price for the bundle of ESPN+ with Disney+ and Hulu will remain the same at $13.99 a month, as will UFC pay-per-view matches available on the streaming service.
In April, Disney reported that ESPN+ had 13.8 million subscribers as the streamer continues to win exclusive streaming rights to major sporting events and release original programming with prominent athletes like Abby Wambach, Ronda Rousey and Tom Brady. Earlier this month, ESPN nabbed the exclusive rights to the Wimbledon championship through 2035, with live streaming rights going to ESPN+, which will be the only platform for tennis fans to watch full match replays and live coverage of the qualifying rounds. The streamer will also have exclusive access to 75 games from the National Hockey League for the upcoming season, as well as next season’s PGA Tour Live.
Disney+ currently costs $7.99 a month, while the most basic tier of Hulu costs $5.99. In December, Disney also hiked up the price of Hulu’s Live TV bundle by $10 a month for a total of $65 a month.

I liked Wingo on those nfl shows I thought he was great but understand in the mike and Mike format not so much
