NBA Season is Returning This Year!!!!!!!

I’m pretty sure it started with Duncan, but it wasn’t a big deal to the NBA because Duncan was past his prime. It becoming noticeable when Pop started doing it with all three stars (Duncan, Manu, and Parker). For Kawhi, it was after he got hurt, so now it’s 4 out of their 5 starters sitting.

I remember the year after the Spurs beat Miami, the Spurs had back-to-back games against Charlotte and then Miami. Pop sat his starters against Miami I believe and that’s when the fines started flying
I forgot all about that.
The talking heads were losing their minds the next day. I think Pops gave an interview about it the next day where he pretty much just shoulder shrugged like fuck it.

When the Spurs were winning, Pop was a thorn in Stern’s side. There wasn’t shit they could say to him to make him give a fuck.
I never understood Stern's hatred for the Spurs. Especially when he was trying to kill off the bad boy/street image of the NBA. He forced players to wear suits, started handing out techs for foul language, etc.

But then you have the most clean cut, well run organization in sports making deep runs, but Stern hated them just for being a small market team.

A day later I still feel the same way…

Speaking of that bad boy/street image, the NBA have succeeded getting rid of it, right?

Ball players from the street isn’t a thing anymore. Which sucks because basketball has turned into a sport where only the privileged has the best chances of going professional. Sort of like soccer.

My homies daughter had national showcasing up here in Greensboro and I went to check them out. It’s amazing that the most accessible sport around the world has been commercialized to such a level that you mostly see white middle class people and exclusive soccer clubs. My homie says he spends access of $7000 a year on his daughter soccer. The same thing has happened to basketball.

Was just talking about this the other day. I watched dribble2much on IG (he works with CP3 too) and you see VERY young kids getting ball-handling lessons with him.. but you have to be able to pay for that. And it is a huge advantage..you see these kids using pro-style moves on other 8 year olds....shit is wild.. kids barely big enough to hold a full-sized ball doing euro drop steps in the lane

Funny you mentioned soccer, that's the shit that ruined it in brazil too... the youth soccer leagues prices so many of the poor kids out that they're left with these guys that "can' play, but they don't football running through their veins in the same way as the kids that learned in their neighborhood before eventually leveling up later.

I saw this coming when I was playing AAU. Around the late 90s and early 2000s is when exclusive basketball camps started becoming popular and AAU was really starting to expand. But it was still in the early phases and hasn’t made it into the professional levels yet. Once the NBA implemented the mandatory year out of high school rule was the beginning of the weeding out.

I remember all those non-athletic white boys spending all that money on training camps just so that could have enough skills to compete with the natural talents. Granted, skills today is vastly superior to when I played, but fundamentals have been lost in the process.

I remember hearing about the Nike camp, but saw how much it cost to attend. I think Steph got some flack a few years ago about his basketball camp pricing as well. The truth of today is that only the privileged or the ones that can afford the best training will get the best access. Sports isn’t for poor people like it use to be. Poor folks that played their sports with their life experiences of trauma brought a level of grit to the game we don’t see today. I miss those fearless players.

Yep. Superteams by nature don't have a lot of depth. So you need those guys to be healthy. It's one of the first things I said when KD decided to go to the Nets.

Those three would have waltzed in IF they stayed healthy, but they just aren't built like that. Crazy that Durant came off the worst bball injury and was fine but Harden and Irving couldn't last.

I said the same thing about the Lakers with AD, but I definitely understood and it worked out because they got the title out of it. Guys like Kyrie and AD are always going to be injured and it rarely gets better as they age.

We had tons of depth when he signed and when he first played this season but the Dinwiddie injury derailed everything.

Dinwiddie doesn't get hurt, we probably don't trade for Harden.

We don't trade for Harden, we still have Levert and Allen who's presence along with a healthy Dinwiddie and just KD put us over the top.

Dinwiddie
Levert
KD
Blake
Allen

Is a championship level starting five but injuries..

I gotta get that sports parents thread back up.

I've been wanting to discuss this for awhile now especially post pandemic

Yeah. You used to just play on your school squad, neighborhood, and then pick up games at some open gyms. Then you'd also be on an AAU squad..I used to play a bit back in the day on an AAU squad.. but the game is way different now. Kids have ball-handling coaches, shooting coaches, etc... completely different game now. Sometimes I just watch some games on youtube with younger kids and you can almost immediately spot the kids who've been training with professional coaches... really skilled but almost robotic. I'm not talking about older kids.... I'm talking grade school games

Yeah... injury bug was crazy. i honestly thought the Nets were going to run through the league this year but not surprising with the short-break that the injury bug hit... easily the worst I've seen...every year you see injuries take down teams, even in the Finals like with the Warriors, but this season in particular was bananas

I know exactly what you talking about. It’s almost like there is no natural evolution of their game. It’s not unique or self-taught.

Playing against those gritty street ballers showed you these kats learned the game through experience. I guess there are pros and cons to it all. Times have just changed so much on how sports is played now of days.

Ayton HAS A BLACK CHILD FROM A BLACK WOMAN

WHERE IS THE PICS OF BLACK EXCELLENCE U FAGGIT

KD missed a game winner and cats started talking about non playoff teams.

I don't think Gay_Carver has been back yet, large bills isn't commenting or giving deep analysis on Game 7 or comp in the East. Them boys messed up getting emotionally attached to the Nets and wanting to see them win. Now they not believable as "Dubs fans" next year.

It ain't been 24 hours, the roast pushes on....

Players Union will be flexing this offseason for sure. This season was too obvious to ignore any further.

These kats isn’t just rolling ankles either. They tearing shit that ends their season. You’d think if your investing $100 million plus into a player, you may want to consider advocating for a shorter season or longer off season. Simply reducing the number of back to back games doesn’t address the grueling 82 games.

Plus, today’s players aren’t as durable. 7 footers are playing like guards.

Saw a highlight on IG yesterday with Artest celebrating after he hit a 3 at the end of game 7 against the Celtics in the NBA finals... was like a minute left... I noticed the score was in the mid fucking 70s! lol... 4th quarter! man.. the game is so fast paced now.

They‘re killing KD on social media, people don’t wanna hear that he played a good game, all they know is he still lost in the second round after being labeled the best player in the world over Lebron..lol

boxing is the only sport that get the poor kids nowadays, well in america the big poor kids still go for football but the ones that dont have enough size sports wise theres boxing where u get cats straight from the mud like the Broners, Charlos, Tank Davis etc. Basketball changed years back, i made a thread here about how it became mostly suburban kids rather than hood kids especially after Rose and Wall's classes.

I remember the AAU camps from when I was growing up (late 90s/early 2000s) and it wasn't nothing like today. Regular kids made up the team and most teams didn't have official jerseys or facilities. They mostly ran out of the local schools during the summer months. Probably costed a few hundred dollars all together.

Nowadays a parent gonna drop a couple stacks just for the summer. And a lot of these camps don't count hotel, food, and travel in the initial cost. That 4,000 dollars is for a multitude of things like shooting, strength, and conditioning coaches. Because a 10 year old really needs a strength and conditioning coach

AAU basketball and track went from mostly locally run leagues into a multi-billion cash cow.
