Busta Rymes vs Rakim

I like Busta but there's no way he's fucking with anything Ra has put out back in the days, excluding that 13th letter bullshit.

...I used to roll up,this is a hold up,ain't nothing funny, stop smiling cause don't nothing move but the money....when he came out is when I was born and I listen to him, watch their videos and he makes me want to buy a kufi and become a 5%er

Keep spitting... brah

Is this really a serious topic?

Yes.

We really out here acting like Busta isn't a legend. I think it's more than legit to compare hip-hop legends.

I personally would have Busta over Rakim. But that's the point. At some point enough time passes where you can evaluate both. None of OG rappers are gods that can't be touched. Rakim may have the better pen, but there are other factors that make up a good Rapper

Is that right? So what are the factors you speak of, besides the pen?

One of my best friends asked me a similar question re Busta and Snoop Dogg (which I think is a better comparison). Personally, I chose Busta.. to each his own...

Can't question Rakim's impact on hip hop and being a dope lyricist... but on paper, Busta wins hands down. I could go into further details, but others have mentioned much of what I would have said re Busta. I'm a fan of both, but literally all of my money would be on Busta if we start talking about actual facts (i.e. album sales, live shows, longevity, putting on other wrappers, popularity, etc) and not feelings.

FAAAAAAAAAAAACTS!

This is going to be a landslide based on your age. I’m taking Busta Buss easy. Rakim was dope when I was 5 so I ain’t picking him.
I'll be 43 in Oct and was around 9/10 years old when Paid in Full came out. I loved hip hop and Rakim for that matter at that age. Busta still wins hands down for me despite not being on the same level as Rakim lyrically. Literally every other category... Busta wins.

That’s like saying he’s great basketball player minus not being able to shoot and play defense. Since when is being “lyrical” not the main component?

Lolz not saying this wins the argument but between the two, Busta is the only one to have an officially released "Best of/Greatest Hits" album.

Rakim's was an add on to 18th letter...

Bruh had HITS and was able to switch up his style.

Again, longevity and adaptability should count as much as lyrics. If people don't want to hear you spit....how great are you?

Lyrical content counts but it isn't everything.

For instance, Crooked I is nice. Joell Ortiz is nice. Where they at?

Yeah I'm taking Snoop on that one

There are many elements of hip hop bruh. If it's all lyricism for you, then cool. That's not the case for me. Canibus was a dope lyricist but sucked as an artist.

I agree... add slaughterhouse an Eminem an a bunch of other people to that list.
