Papoose dead president freestyle

Hitching his wagon to Kay Slay.

Never got that one.

I remember the whole million dollar contract etc...

And that WAS the mix tape era

DJs like that DID have a whole lot of influence breaking artists, records, etc even complition albums later

Say what you want Pap is real loyal.

But I always thought he needed a REAL co sign especially a Brooklyn one.

Like Jay-Z or something

He can rhyme no doubt but he REALLY needed like a Puff who could find the right producers, image, promotion etc.

Crazy he a solid Brooklyn cat but never really had no public brooklyn crew affiliations

He should have had at least Joey Badass career.

One of the biggest mysteries in hip hop music is why no one was ever able to harness all that skill of his.

Hopefully he making good money ghostwriting all these years cause bars always been on point.

It’s not a mystery, fans don’t have a connection to him. You can be talented, but if fans aren’t connected meaning they don’t give a shit about you. Then you usually don’t succeed.

He also doesn’t have any songs that have buzzed nationwide.

You know what I guess that’s the mystery, why don’t fans connect with him?

Maybe it’s the name, WTF is a Pappose? :roflmao:

I decided to Google it:

The word papoose is actually an English word borrowed from Native American Indians meaning a Native American Indian child. Papoose also refers to the actual sling used to carry an infant.

:rolleyes2:

Damn. Why is even relevant? Isn't Alphabet Slaughter like 15 years old? I was just recalling how hard Charles Hamilton fell off.

I hear you.

But there many artists who have built an audience independently underground loyal audience. And profited greatly. And never had that HIT.

Pap was/is respected but I just don't know what specifically held him back

He had litte songs here and there, not many features probably the Busta Rhymes one was the biggest. The marriage to Remy and the reality show and years back that prank show.

He should be bigger or maybe the truth is he is as big as he should be or wants to be.

And we all know what his name meant since grade school, I forget why he went with that I think it was a family nickname.

Trust me I have heard much much worse over the years

I just always thought Pap had a hit record in him.

Cause out of Brooklyn in his sphere

Maino had like 3 huge records, Uncle Murda, Young MA, Pop Smoke, Casanova, Flavio, all had more than one... couple of Brooklyn drill rappers even had hits.

I don't think Pap had one his whole career?

He had SOLID records and projects no doubt, but off top I can't think of a HIT HIT.

My first sentences answered your reply:

“Fans don’t have a connection to him. You can be talented, but if fans aren’t connected meaning they don’t give a shit about you. Then you usually don’t succeed”.

It’s about songs but it’s about the person, fans have to connect and care for them to listen.

It’s not just about hits.

^^^^^

100%

that is the secret ingredient.

I'm saying there are so many pocket s of fans that back in the day were not serviced addressed or recognized.

I always thought he didn't TARGET that.

again to be fair that wasn't the PLAN back then everywhere

as much as independent labels continually tried to show us.

Man I wish I knew what it was and I’d sell it to record companies!

It's crazy bro.

Think of Chance the Rapper

They call him an industry plant and he probably is...

But that man been on his hustle on his grind for YEARS I followed him since okay player and nah right days.

Serious serious work and with a very unique sound and style

Stayed true to himself

And look at him now.

Still don't know more than 1 song

Platinum artist and I don't know any of his fans personally

Same for 9ine.

So my point again is it's POSSIBLE and I thought Papoose could have been that guy

He's just doesn't want to I guess. It's no reason he's not on his 4th album by now.

He ain't down with the baphomet?

Pap's lack of a rap career, is one of the greatest mystery's of Hip Hop. I thought that he was going to take off after the Street Sweepers mixtape series. As others have said, he just couldn't connect with fans.

It's crazy.

That man had Primo beats

In Brooklyn during numerous waves

The way he supported his wife while she was in jail..

He got fans male and female loyal just off that

He needed the right team.

The right team!?!!?! He had Kay Slay spinning his shit every night!!! On hot97!!! If you can't do it with that type of rocket fuel you just don't want to fly

This nigga has Kayslay behind him, playing his shit infinite on radio, on love and hip hop, has a track on an NFL game!! If u can't find it in yourself to drop more than 2 half assed albums he dropped in 20 years your out of the conversation.

He's a good lyricist but his bracket is with Cannabis and niggas like Jay Electronica

Yeah I already tried to use that in his defense bro

too be fair...

Who has Kay slay really directed to success?

but I realize this is a separate thread

and in this SAME thread I just gave all those mix-tape dJs mad love but lets keep a buck

50 did it HIMSELF with his OWN mix-tapes

Which mix tape DJ was BREAKING artists like that?

Drama kinda got dudes while they were already hot

Clue is the one we can REALLY point too Fab, Budden etc

Ron G was doing Blends

Doo Wop had a few artists.... half his mixtapes were dedicated to them and new artists.

now DJ Screw can claim more than a few artists...

Who am I missing?

It’s not worth making an album when only your closest friends and family are buying it.

damn

FEELINGS_nrjgyx.gif

we going THERE today?

I didn't know we were here to bury bodies.

Facts you always be on point.
I always felt like he had everything he needed.

HE DID BRO!!!

It don't make sense!

Look at the OTHER Brooklyn dudes that had LEGIT hits during his time

Uncle Murdra Maino Troy Ave Joey Badass Flatbush Zombies Cassanova Young MA Flavio Foreign Pop Smoke and numerous brooklyn drill rappers

just to name a FEW!

and Papoose could't get ONE ????

Alphabetical Slaughter and the Law Library series alone was enough evidence he had the requisite SKILLS for SOMEONE to invest in.

They all have albums that they dropped for their fans on time. Not 10 years after they recorded em. And not half asked efforts.

It's a let down. He's in the conversation with the other hot coulda beens and he easily could have been up there with Jada, Ghostface, Beanie Sigel etc.

Bad Boy Ruff Ryders D Black Wu Tang Roc State Property.

you NEED that foundation and support.

Sad but true. 2003-2009 bred plenty of rap hustlers with no flavor or support. Saigon was fire. Joe Scudda. Stack Bundles. Joe Ortiz. Yellawolf. Even with backing. Props to Joe Budden for eking with a dead career to something. He hustled a web page, kept pushing mixtapes, took punches from Melle Mel and Wu Tang, attention whored himself and his dates on Flavor of Love to today.
