They are introducing new stuff to push PainKiller. Black Lighting should be a a much "darker" adult themed show like on HBO MAX or something with a much COOLER, younger version of Jefferson Pierce

I know they setting up the spin off but you don't have to sacrifice good storytelling to do it.
I agree with the HBO Max idea 100%
but I am not dismissing the work Cress has done he did a DAMN good job considering the situation.

This show can and does do that
Sometimes good sometimes bad sometimes perfect sometimes ok sometimes wtf
But the EFFORT is what is most important
And Cress is a great leader.
They ALL are better actors when he is on screen with them

Painkiller is not gonna have that luxury.
They started the show off wrong frfr... Black Lighting should have been in his late 20's, early 30's... Lighting and Thunder should have been Season 3. Lynn should be a guest star once per season. Add Grace season 4...
Another flaw was that BL doesn't have a true nemesis worthy of his stature. Let's be real... Tobias should have been done when they fought in Freeland. Dude with the tattoos is frozen in concrete and he was hosting virtual fights that an Olympic winning principal of Freeland was fighting in???
Seriously, Painkiller is a better character. The NEW JJ is a better actress (just needs a better costume).
And Anisa was much better when she was sleeping with different chicks...

But again Cress wasn't bad the more mature tone set it apart from the rest of the CW shows
And the many young characters did provide balance and the story line you wanted
They messed up a lot but I don't know who to blame
They tied their hands a lot and they had to create a universe using a limited character from SCRATCH
Tobias especially hiring Krondon was to me a smart choice and allowed them to play with a lot of black issues.
He was their black lex luthor kingpin
But I hope Painkiller is as good all your predict it to be.

I think what messed up that character is that is really is the only grown black woman on the show
she has to represent EVERYTHING
that actress has to do so much heavy lifting
And the writers make her basically have multiple personalities
But the one trick that kinda makes it work is the angry black woman with legit PTSD and guilt and a drug addiction allows
All the screwball decisions to make "sense" in that context
If you go back to episode one Lynn been thru sum sh*t
And with no powers
They try to do TOO MUCH
And then unfortunately drag the wrong things out and rush the right things
They needed to be told they had 3 seasons to close all these stories
and THEN properly open Painkiller.

Ok, I thought they were in the same class. It's been a minute
that young man is so COMMITTED to make this character work its really makes you root for him
he seems to take the fight scenes as seriously as the acting.
The ONLY way this fails?
the writers don't give him the proper showcase
and he supposed to be older then Jenn (i don't know f they were in the same class or not)
also he had a MUCH more difficult upbringing
and remember he was also into sports
and they introduced the character as returning to school with a new sense of maturity and seriousness.
