Family identities 15-year-old girl killed in police shooting in South Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating a fatal police shooting in South Columbus. Family members have identified the victim as 15-year-old Makiyah Bryant.

Police were called to the 3000 block of Legion Lane just before 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday on a report of an attempted stabbing.

A victim was taken to Mt. Carmel East in critical condition but was pronounced just before 5:30 p.m.

Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther said body-worn camera footage will be reviewed as soon as possible.

Ginther is asking residents to remain calm and to allow BCI to investigate.

No further information was provided.

Following the shooting, a crowd gathered at the scene upset at police. Many were saying "enough is enough" and were asking if the officers involved were wearing body cameras.

From what I'm reading, the girl called the cops because there were some girls fighting outside her house and she had a knife for self defense. Witnesses are saying that the cops just pulled up and started shooting with no warning, which is what they always do when it comes to us.
