Mother blames School for her son only passing 3 classes in 4 years.

I keep hoping I read that wrong. He had a 0.13 and there was 58 students lower than him??? Tell me I'm wrong. Gotta be a typo right???
Nope. No typo. The sad thing is this is not an isolated incidence. In Baltimore, there are public schools where the graduation rate is 2%. Not kidding. Many of the schools won't reveal the graduation rate. As a district, the graduation rate is less than 50%.

Areas such as Chicago, Dayton, Detroit, Cleveland, Milwaukee, St. Louis, and numerous other cities are experiencing similar outcomes. Especially in some southern states.

Unfortunately, distance learning has exacerbated the problem. Even Fairfax county had seen a dip in performance regarding testing due to distance learning.

Most private schools went back to in person learning at the beginning of the school year.

We gotta figure out how to get parents involved. At my kids private school, parent participation is required and failure to do so will result in your kid behind removed.

These republicans want to take public schools to being in corporate run entities

I have two cousins who are teachers and the way they talk about it, it's damn near impossible to fail a kid these days. There's no such thing as late assignments anymore, any missed test can be made up, one has to record his online teaching session so students who missed the class can watch it at a later time (even though everyone is remote :smh: )
Nope, it’s like that where I teach as well. Had me vexed as hell because there were kids who had their cameras off all marking period and did no work, yet they had the “right” to flood me with subpar, shit work that just met the criteria. Now, multiply that by the 25 kids in total who were slacking and now I have over 300+ assignments that I HAVE to go through, score and comment one day before the marking period ends. It’s absolute bullshit

shit is just sad.
i know here in Dallas, if your child misses too many days of school, they take it out on the parents and the parents end up in truancy court.
Fines can be costly. i guess they figure, if they hurt your pockets and bank account enough, you'll make sure your child has their ass in school.
This is kind of wrong. It's heart is in the right place, but there are some kids that Just Can't Get Right

One friend of mine had her daughter Miss half of a semester. It wasn't until the progress report came out that she knew what went on

She dropped her daughter off everyday at school and watched her walk in the building. Her daughter, with her fast ass, walked out the back door to meet up with some boy

That's not the parents fault. And levying huge fines on people who don't have a lot of money is just counterproductive because the parents can't do it for the kids. The parents can't make the kid want it

Anyone in the education fields can tell you stories about lazy ass parents. They think the school system is supposed to do every thing for their children.

:smh:

I mentor and it is the same shit. You can tell parents I will match every $ you contribute 20x for the sole benefit of your child and maybe 15-20% will participate. I have also seen parents jealous/hateful toward their own kids who will actually try to sabotage opportunities. :smh: Mentoring has made really appreciate my children's teachers because I know some of the bullshit they have to put up with.

I want to know what were the 3 classes he passed

did he fail cause he couldn’t comprehend the classes or did he fail for not attending or paying attention?

how is his reading ability and comprehension in math?

does he have a special set of skills?

does he have any underlying problems like mental issues or reading disorders?

what are is his interest and what motivates him?

how is his social skills?

how is his skills when it comes to internet and tech?

would he be interested in construction, trade work?

how does he feel about culinary work?

how is his home life.

kid might have a rough start but that dosent mean he’s a lost cause.. some people have gotten certain careers with geds and made great money .. maybe he’s 1 of those kids.. just got to talk to the young man and see where his head at and see if you could point him down the right path even if the start of the road was tough

I have stated repeatedly on this that I graduated high school with a 1.1 GPA. I had a higher SAT score than the Valedictorian. I opted for community college, got accepted into the nursing program, and the rest is history.

I have always had a plan and I wasn’t going to let a poorly funded schools with crackhead English teachers asking me if I sold drugs.

She's lucky in a sense. Lots of our schools just graduate them that's why we have a lot of educated dummies.

I don't see this as being much different than the football or basketball players that graduate college but can't spell cat if you spot them the c and the t.

No child left behind.

This is thread is meant to illicit all sorts of negative energy towards blank women.

Wrong,It has everything to do with a mother not doing her job as a parent. How the hell you go three years not knowing your kid is doing bad at school. I bet she didn't ask the school where her son's report card yet she want to blame the school for failures as a parent.

It's her responsibility to find out, how her son is doing not the other way around.

To be fair though, if it was a man or a shim, the questions and scorn would be the same. A parent just finding out how bad their kid has been doing after 4 years of high school and then not accepting most or at least an equal amount of the blame.... :smh:

I watched the fox video and one of the classes he passed was P.E..

How the fuck does he still rank at the top of the class!!! Man The Wire wasn't bullshitting when it came to their school system

Whole system fucked that kid over.

-Six-figure admins letting kids with a 0.13 and lower still be at that level, but I’m sure they took in the money to “educate

-Teachers who figured he probably wasn’t going to amount to shit anyway

-Single mother whose choices have her at a point she can’t monitor her kid

Quiet as kept though; shitty he has to stay in HS another 2 years, but it’s 2 years to get a life plan together or 2 years to stave off the inevitable.

This. Lotta hate directed at the mother only from the replies I have read. But the entire system fucked this kid over.

"As we dig deeper into her son’s records, we can see in his first three years at Augusta Fells, he failed 22 classes and was late or absent 272 days. But in those three years, only one teacher requested a parent conference, which France says never happened. No one from the school told France her son was failing and not going to class."

This shit here and we are blaming the black woman smh. Not saying the mother has no culpability here, but let's assume like many black women, she's working multiple jobs to keep the lights on. I don't blame her for not being proactive on her son's education, but it sounds like if the school reached out with even a automated phone call, mom probably would've been up there to figure out wtf is going on.

System viewed him as another black man who wasn't going to amount to anything instead of a seeing a black child who needed more support.
