Joe Biden is now POTUS

Christopher Browning, a historian of the Holocaust and Nazi Germany, told me that McConnell has been almost “Houdini-like at escaping his own devil’s pact” with Trump. In a widely admired essay in The New York Review of Books, from 2018, Browning called McConnell “the gravedigger of American democracy,” and likened him to elected officials in Weimar Germany who struck early deals with Hitler, mistakenly believing that they could contain him and his followers.

When I asked Browning if he still regarded McConnell in this way, he said that the new Minority Leader had “cut a better deal than most.” McConnell was “lucky that Trump was so lazy, feckless, and undisciplined.” Hitler didn’t go golfing, Browning pointed out. But Browning found little to celebrate in McConnell’s performance.

“If Trump had won the election, Mitch would not be jumping ship,” he noted. “But the fact is Trump lost, and his coup failed. And that opened an escape hatch for Mitch.” Browning warned, however, that “the McConnell wing was ready to embrace Trump’s usurping of democracy—if Trump could pull it off.”
Christopher Browning wrote Ordinary Men. He discovered long lost records about the SS police (Einzwatengruppen) who were assigned to execute Jews in occupied country. They didn't start executing Jews until 939, after the Nazi's had been in power for 6 years. This was before the gas chambers, which didn't start until 41 or 42. They would round Jews up by the hundreds, sometimes thousands and walk them into the woods were they would gun them down. The man knows what the fuck he's talking about. You can find a documentary on Netflix about it. I think it's called Death Troops but I'm probably wrong. If you get a chance to read it, do so. It's a reasonable short book, maybe 300 pages.

So basically thanks to the Bitch ass Dems mitch the bitch got it exactly what he wanted, pressed that weak prick shumar and ended up saving his precious filibuster lol and they ask why people don't vote for them, they promise the world and deliver nothing, all while they line their pockets with special interest money lol wow. Oh well. Nothing new.

If I'm wrong someone tell me since that's exactly what it seems like to me, mitch bluffed the punk ass's soft estrogen milkshake drinking libs and got what he ultimately wanted most, the power to obstruct the administration the same way he did pres obama

Senators Manchin and Sinema told Mitch that they wouldn t end filibuster. Supposedly they had a caveat though that they would vote to end it if Mitch didnt act right.

I hate shit like this! These "elect" officials don't CARE about losing their jobs in 1,2,3,4+ Years. That's why they clown the way they do. They already have a gig lined up for their non-sense. There needs to be threat of real immediate consquences like in a matter of weeks and no longer than 1 month for elected officials. For example, cats like Cruz and the white chick shouldn't be able to step foot inside a government building after the shit they tried to pull off.

Truly holding these folks to task shouldn't be up to their buddies in government that can look the other way either.

Until you have a system that is quick and non-bias with serious repurcussions they don't care and will do THEIR will and not the PEOPLES will.

For an elected representative to say "I've made up my mind and nothing can change it?" Fuck you think your are? Fuck you think you working for? Yourself?

They are worried about consequences but only from the right wing
Especially right wing media
also note that Biden didn’t say a word,
Mich is even claiming Biden wants the filibuster

Oh yeah the media is trying to create something because Trump is gone they need to stop this bullshit MSNBC is still OK to me, Fox News is back on that bullshit again and CNN yes trying to be middle of the road. I would love for the filibuster to be put on the shelf but we need more Democratic senators to pull it off this 50-50 thing is not Enough to change the filibuster right now especially with the knucklehead in West Virginia.

This is false though if McConnell got concessions from two dems not to vote for ending the filibuster.

That's why i don't even bother reading anything from Palmer Report.

Palmer isn't the only one framing it like this. MSNBC was talking about McConnell throwing in the towel, but if reporting is true, he still got what he want, he just has different people guaranteeing it. Even if it's not true and it's a fake rumor, it still makes it seen like Schumer is McConnell's bitch and not in control of the dems in the Senate.

Schumer lurks. He knew we were fed up last night.

Schumer probably got word to McConnell that Manchin and Sinema didn't want to kill the filibuster but were now ready to do it if he didn't sign the agreement.
But wait, so if manchin and sinema where secretly down to kill it why not, you know. Kill it. They know they're going to use it to obstruct, it's a guaran-fucking-tee, so what am I missing? Still sound like mitch got that he wanted.agsin if I'm missing something please someone help me lol

That's roughly the way most people read it, or something similar. Basically, even though those two made statements saying they didn't want to do it, it was mainly for show.

So in the end, McConnell loses the main fight, because Mitch wanted a rule in place that protected the filibuster for the entire session, but couldn't get it. He can pretend he didn't lose, but he knows that if Republicans start going full obstructionist with the filibuster, Manchin and Sinema can flip and vote to kill it after saying that they gave Republicans a chance to do the right thing. So yeah, we'll probably get a healthy dose of the GOP being dicks about this, but we may also see them behave a little so the Dems don't drop the hammer.

Yep. He tried to frame it as a win by saying that Manchin and Sinema have publicly stated they won't support the filibuster so having it in the power-sharing agreement isn't necessary now. I got their commitments."

This bullshit right out the gate should let the Dems know they're likely going to need to nuke it though. If the GOP is filibustering over the transfer of power, what are they going to do with Biden's agenda?

I don't think they secretly were before this and probably still aren't for it if it came to a floor vote right now. However, I can't imagine any other reason for Mitch to give up last night unless this was solely about setting up Trump's trial... the media wasn't putting any pressure on him. Only other thing I can imagine is that Schumer got Manchin and Sinema to say that they'd only be for the killing the Filibuster if Mitch continues to obstruct the transfer of power.

The only thing that is important is that Schumer did not give McConnell an
undertaking to not kill the filibuster. Mancini and Sinema may have said that
they are not open to killing the filibuster, but remember, the reason why
Bitch McConnell wants the filibuster to remain is so that he can use it to kill
ALL of Joe Biden's agenda. In fact, before the Georgia elections, when Bitch
McConnell thought he would be majority leader, he vowed before his friends
that he would block everything on Joe Biden's agenda.

If McConnell carries out the obstructionism, the pressure will mount on Joe
Mancini and Sinema to vote away the filibuster. This, in fact, is exactly where
Schumer wants to be. The filibuster cuts both ways. If it had not been in place,
Trump would have got his wall without having to declare a fake emergency
and using that to steal the money from the military...

As long as the Dems get their priorities to pass, they do not want to gut the
filibuster. They want it to be there where the positions with the GOP are
reversed.

Biden says he's willing to 'compromise' on the stimulus package and Schumer said they probably can't pass a bill until March.
Well Mancini organised 15 people who called Biden to complain about the
$1400 checks...If he would not have Sinema and fucking Mancini stabbing
him in the back, this shit would be over. However, no one had the illusion
that the thing had a chance of passing as a stand alone bill. It was always
known that it would have to go through by reconciliation... Fuck Mancini
and Sinema.

Schumer did not sign anything on paper or by a declarative statement
on the floor. All options are on the table. That is what the Democrats
always wanted.
