I remember these (I used to scuba dive). It was a type of dive knife called a WASP Injection knife. They were marketed to scuba divers as a (last ditch) defense against shark attacks. They have a CO2 cartridge in the handle which leads to a hole at the tip of the knife. The idea was that the diver would stab the shark and then push the button, which releases a large burst of CO2 into the wound. The sudden expansion in the wound cavity can damage tissue and organs, and the gas introduced into the shark can disrupt it's neutral buoyancy. They never really caught on though, probably because there are many other tools to protect against shark attacks, all of which do not require you to get into a hand-to-hand fight with a shark.
I grew up with ALL dat shit in the house. I'd sprint two blocks from a spoonful of Fletcher's when I was before school age. I had to be cornered at bedtime and shit like that.
Thankfully, I never had to deal with the 666 but my grandmother used it for Big Mama for years once her health began to fail so far.
