Makita, Hilti, Festool, Milwaukee, Bosch, Dewalt ...

About two weeks ago I picked up a new set of power tools, deciding on the new Makita black series 18v sub compact family.

I am very impressed with the weight, or lack thereof, and power for its size and how flexible the platform is. I can run anything from the black series all the way up to their full pro teal series of tools on the same 18 V packs.

This past weekend I was driving 5” lag bolts with ease while helping a friend shore up his dock and he couldn’t believe I was nearly matching his pace and longevity, although he was using a Hilti impact driver.


And yet I keep having this gnawing feeling I should has gone with the Milwaukee Fuel line or threw a bag at Festool.


Has anyone else had experience with any of these other brands? Feedback? Experience? Best places to find deals on the Pro Grade tools?

Good luck to you good sir. I got no problem with choice here. I copped a Ryobi chainsaw (40v rechargeable) on sale and picked up an extra battery for some tree issues on my property line. They are a memory now. God bless the former trees.

I have a few tools that I use moderately from the brushless Dewalt 20V line. I like them.

I don't know how others feel, but heard good things about some of the Harbor Freight pro power tools they have as well. Like the Bauer and Hercules stuff.

Milwaukee shit can and will break you up. I hit a knot drilling a 6 inch hole with their 3hp right angle drill for some waste water pipe and the shit torqued and tossed my 260lb ass off a ladder like I was a dwarf.

I have a Makita 18v set but I don't use it that often. If I did carpentry for a living, I would go with Milwaukee.
Makita is not bad, though.

I've burned through at least 15 drills in my job over the last 14 years. We only use Dewalt or Milwaukee. I burned out so many Dewalts where they just stop working or lock up. The only time I needed a new Milwaukee drill is when somebody stole it or I lost it. It gets the job done for real.

In my opinion, Milwaukee just seems to have maintained their build quality while Dewalt and Makita have declined over the last 10 or so years. The result is they continue to perform as expected longer. I'm not a pro, but I know good equipment makes a difference.

See the only thing I use my drill for his drilling holes. I drill through everything. Wood, house siding, metal sometimes, and definitely a lot of concrete and brick. I got that M18 Fuel. If I put that bitch on hammer and have a good masonary bit, I can get through anything. Just drilled through about a foot of concrete today in less than 30 seconds.

See the only thing I use my drill for his drilling holes. I drill through everything. Wood, house siding, metal sometimes, and definitely a lot of concrete and brick. I got that M18 Fuel. If I put that bitch on hammer and have a good masonary bit, I can get through anything. Just drilled through about a foot of concrete today in less than 30 seconds.

Fo sho! The hole saw was feasting on 2x6's for about 9 outta 15 chases that I had laid out to run my pipe. The center bit and me missed the big ass knot on the backside of #9. The saw bound up, but you know that torque is going somewhere. That muthfucka learnt me that day.

Ridgid is homeowner quality.

They make the absolute best copper tubing, pex and pipe cutters.

Imo, that's all they should ever make.
