Car purchase question

Used cars have higher interest and more cost involved with maintenance as warranties are limited. So you buy a used BMW for 50K and pay an additional 10k in interest plus repairs and you saved nothing.
Your math and logic is beyond wrong smfh.

Naw my math is correct. You pay more interest on a dollar with a used car. Buying a used luxury car for many is getting a car they can’t afford and paying more interest on a dollar and get stuck with all the maintenance cost

tell em $47,000 cash.
if they dont wanna deal. then tell them you'll take your money else where.
best believe they'll talk turkey if they see the money.
i've bought my last two cars cash and believe me.........i paid a lot less than what they were asking when they saw i had cash in hand.
the last thing salesmen want to see is money walking out the door.

I would just buy a use one. This one only has 29 miles on it. Can’t get the link to work but go to Cars.com and find that car used. Seen it for 39k 2021 with 29miles on it. Color Black

We got this offer from the dealer for this https://www.alexandriatoyota.com/in...ited-awd-mini-van-passenger-5tdzskfc3ms006425
MSRP: $52,593.00
Your Exclusive "Carnow - Chat" Price: $47,799.00*
Processing Fee: $789.00
Sales Tax (MD): $3,121.66
Freight: $1,045.00
DMV Fees (MD): $325.00

We're paying cash but dude doesn't want to budge on the price, freight or proc. fees. This price seems to be the best in the DMV for this trim. Take it or leave it?

Appreciate the advice in advance.
Set up the deal with financing with the lowest price you can negotiate
Make sure the bank doesn't have a prepayment penalty.
Pay it off with less than 30 days on the note

That car is stupid ugly bro, if you're going to pay that type of money get something with a little style and has all the trimmings like the 2020 or 2021 Lincoln Aviator

Dealers don't get anything from finance charges unless they are financing it in-house....And that usually is a used car dealer.

GMAC doesn't kick anything back to the dealership and mother do the other finance companies.

This is not true I worked hand in hand with car salesmen and finance managers for about 16 years. Brother in-law is Sales manager at Hyundai dealership here in Birmingham.

Car dealerships have agreements with finance companies for a portion of the APR.

For instance: Buyer ask dealer to find financing. Finance company says they are approved at a rate between 5% and 10%. If the dealer gets you to bite on a car payment based on 9% or 10% they get a couple of those points usually upfront provided the buyer makes first 6 months of payments.

Here's another way salesmen make extra money on used car sales and you can save money if you find out which is which.

A lot of dealerships don't "buy" their used inventory outright, they finance it. That means if a car sits on the lot to long it starts to cost the owner interest. That's why you see dealers rotating their used inventory in and out of auction. But say the dealer has a car that has sold at auction and has been on the lot to long. This usually happens if they bring a overly packaged car with features nobody wants to pay for. Some dealers put a "drop money" price on these cars where if the salesmen can move it they get an extra couple hundred bonus on top of their commission.

So if you take your time you can see which cars have been on the lot for a while and put pressure on them to make a deal. Cargurus.com is good about providing info on how long cars been on the market.

Did you tell them you are paying cash? That is why.
Never tell them you are paying cash. They hate that.
Take the info and go to another dealer.
Tell them they have to beat that deal.
Do not tell them you are paying cash.
Negotiate get the deal in writing.
Then pay off the car in the first payment.

Oh and that is BALLER amounts.

This! Also never tell them assholes what you will pay down or what you want your payments to be. Only you need to know that! Tell em to make you an offer you can’t refuse and LIE about your preapproved finance rate! What will he sale the fucking car/truck for! Also beware of bullshit Administrative charges! Fuck them!

The question was answered several times. Yes people do buy new cars but maybe just maybe we're trying to warn him letting him know it's not worth it.

But OP explained that his wife wanted the trim only offered on the 2021 model so we're good.
What you mean “warn” it is ok to buy new cars

Yea, if the finance rate isn’t -5 or under I tell em to eat a dick bro! Sell it to your family members etc and have them eat that finance rate! Fuck a dealer finance rate! .05 /- 5, then 6 months to a year later drop it again! USAA motherfuckers!

No it’s not there’s no interest rate on a used M3 that will end up costing you 40k. Again new M3 $90k, used M3 $50k. Buying used isn’t about getting what you can afford it’s about getting a relatively new car at sometimes half the cost.

Two pieces if advice.

  • First, never ever buy a brand new car off the lot. It loses value as soon as you sign the final agreement. If you were to sell it 10 minutes later, you would have to sell at a loss. Go one or two years back. The upgrades are usually never that significant.
  • Second, never ever tell a dealer you are paying cash. 75% of a dealer's money is made from upgrades and finance charges. When you say, " I'm paying cash" you lose out on all negotiation power as well as an opportunity to remove all of the miscellaneous charges.
  • Third, when you negotiate, the absolute biggest mistake most people make is focusing on the down payment and monthly payment. You do not care about this because you will pay this entire balance when you receive the first bill. Plus, this will help your credit, particularly at the bank that issued the auto loan. You 100% need to focus on the out the door price. Not the before financing price. You need to see all charges, then chip away from there. Tell the guy, listen I want a car today. You might not make a bundle with me, but you will get paid because I'm buying today if you get this price down. His something is better than nothing thought process will kick in.
I took a few negotiation courses and we had a couple of huge auto dealers who were alum come in and spill the beans as guests of the course.
This is really good information . Thanks

I was referring to the house financial services like GMAC, Chrysler Capital, Ford Credit and all the others

If that is the case then the buyer should use their own bank or credit union.

You’re better off using your own bank or credit Union. They see your true finances, those other assholes are looking at beacon scores, FICO scores and credit numbers. For example, if you’ve banked with a bank or credit Union for at least 5 years and you have decent credit they will approve you at a higher rate and a better finance rate than those car companies. They normally get your checks by eft, the car companies can’t see your years of efting your money like that and you’ve made the Unions and Banks moneys over the years. Funky ass Dodge begged me to use them to finance I told them they can go fuck themselves. I don’t know y’all bro! My bank will beat any rate you got homie! All day every day! And I ain’t putting shit down on it cuz!

There's quite a few threads on this very subject. I'm surprised @jagu hasn't chimed in.

If you want a new car, get one. You want the best deal, email a bunch of dealers in the area and ask for the best price (Tyson's toyota is a good bet). Then shop that price against the other dealers until you get the lowest price. Having dealers bid against each other is the way to go. And If you do it through email, you already have it in writing.

Why not buy a vehicle that actually retains its value? They are out there.

Im for that too but sometimes people want to drive what they want. My thing is to not get fleeced getting it off the lot. Idgaf about no car man. It ain’t shit to me except to drive until I get the next car. Since I’m no car collector and I ain’t got it like that imma ride that mf till the wheels fall off! Lol

Playing hardball does have it's advantages, but you definitely got to be willing to walk away. I had to get another car a couple of months of go. I found a car in my price range, but when I went to negotiate final numbers, they added a shit load of hidden fees. Tried to shave some off the price and instead of meeting me half way they wanted to be cute and argue with me for damn near an hour on why they couldn't go no lower. I told them thanks but no thanks and walked out. Another manger called me the next day to tell me the the dude I was negotiating with fucked up and should have taken my offer. By then, I was ready to start over and eventually found what I was looking for at the price I was willing to pay at another dealer.

My Gawd you're backward and submissive as fuck. Used car interest rate is pretty much the same as new car rates these days. I just got a 2019 car for 1.9%. Also, my warranty is the same as a new one because it's CPO. The sticker price of my car is $128K and I got it for $55K.

No wonder you gave up a $3M cleaning contract for bottom-feeding gigs.

Bruh you got a 2019, that is pretty much new. Interest rates increase on used cars. My 2020 truck cost less than a used 2019 with my incentives with more features.

You lost in that deal because you purchased a car that is not even a year old that lost half its value in one year. That is a red flag fam. Something is not added up.

Please tell me you're not retarded. Read what you just wrote and think while doing it.

How the fuck do you lose when you buy a luxury car for less than half the sticker price with CPO warranty?

Here is an example, since your internet is broken

You not making sense. You say you purchased a car were the original sticker price was 128K for 55k. The car is a 2019 and only a year old or less. Within that short period of time it lost half its value? It had to have high miles

If you say that you wanted to get a luxury car cheaper, you could have waited a few months and got it for 38k

With my bank, interest rates goes up on vehicles over 2 years old and it also factors in the duration of the loan. Vehicles less than 2 years old is considered new.
