Dave Prowse, the Bristolian former bodybuilder best known for playing Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy, has died aged 85.

Prowse was cast as Vader for his imposing physique, even though the role was voiced by James Earl Jones.
But the weightlifter-turned-actor was most proud of playing the Green Cross Code Man. The role, promoting road safety in the UK, earned him an MBE.

"May the force be with him, always!" said his agent Thomas Bowington.

"Though famous for playing many monsters - for myself, and all who knew Dave and worked with him, he was a hero in our lives."
Mr Bowington called the actor's death, after a short illness, "a truly and deeply heart-wrenching loss for us and millions of fans all over the world".
Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars movies, said he was "so sad" to hear the news.
"He was a kind man and much more than Darth Vader," Hamill said on Twitter. "He loved his fans as much as they loved him."

RIP. He was a big dude. Who definitely gave the Darth Vader character a grandiose presence not found in most super villains.

We all know the most iconic thing about Vader was his voice. The phrase, "No. I, am your father" could not have been as epic as it was if not for James Earl Jone's voice.

RIP to dude, though.

This is the truth. People want to act like darth Vader’s look was intimidating. Any tall guy could wear that outfit. That voice though? That voice is what makes Darth intimidating.

imagine Prowse saying that line with his accent.

EDIT: I hate when lazy posters post a link with no relevant search word in it so it can be searched..... I did a search for "David Prowse"

:hmm:

London (CNN)British actor David Prowse, who played Darth Vader in the original "Star Wars" trilogy, has died aged 85, his management company announced Sunday.
Prowse died after a short illness, according to his agent Thomas Bowington. CNN reported in 2018 that Prowse was being treated for prostate cancer.
"It's with great regret and heart-wrenching sadness for us and million of fans around the world, to announce that our client DAVE PROWSE M.B.E. has passed away at the age of 85," Bowington Management said on Twitter Sunday.

"May the force be with him, always!" his former agent, Thomas Bowington, said in a statement to the BBC.

"Though famous for playing many monsters -- for myself, and all who knew Dave and worked with him, he was a hero in our lives."
Prowse wore the black suit and helmet to play Darth Vader, but it was the actor James Earl Jones who provided the character's voice. Prowse's West Country English accent was thought to be unsuitable for the part.

But it was his role as the "Green Cross Code Man" from a British road safety campaign that Prowse said he was most proud of. He was awarded an MBE -- a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire -- in 2000 for that role.
American actor Mark Hamill -- who played Darth Vader's son, Luke Skywalker, alongside Prowse -- sent his condolences in a tweet on Sunday.
"So sad to hear David Prowse has passed. He was a kind man & much more than Darth Vader," he wrote.
"Actor-Husband-Father-Member of the Order of the British Empire-3 time British Weightlifting Champion & Safety Icon the Green Cross Code Man. He loved his fans as much as they loved him. #RIP"
Prowse was born into a working class family and grew up in a council estate in Southmead, in southwestern England. He gained a scholarship to attend Bristol Grammar School.
He had a passion for bodybuilding and was crowned British Weightlifting Champion several times in the 1960s. He became lifelong friends with actors Arnold Schwarzenegger in his weightlifting years, according to website IMDb.
His broad physique and towering figure helped land him roles as monsters and villains in TV shows and films. He played the monster in "The Horror of Frankenstein" in 1970 and a bearded torturer in "Carry on Henry" in 1971. That same year he made an appearance as a bodyguard in Stanley Kubrick's dystopian film "A Clockwork Orange" in 1971.
He went on to play Darth Vader in all three of the original "Star Wars" films, in 1977, 1980 and 1983.
Health and fitness remained an interest for Prowse, who also worked as a personal trainer for actors playing the role of Superman, including Christopher Reeve, and wrote a book called "Fitness is Fun."
He published an autobiography, "Straight from the Force's Mouth," in 2011.

Looking at his resume, he was already known prior to Star Wars as "Green Cross" Man...lolz how did Lucas avoid copyright infringement. I see an early version of R2-D2...

Jeremy Bulloch, who inaugurated the role of Star Wars’ Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, died on December 17, according to his personal website. Bulloch was 75 and died due to ongoing health issues, including Parkinson’s disease, which he lived with for the past several years of his life. He appeared in various British TV shows beginning in his teens, including the family show Billy Bunter of Greyfriars School, and later starred in the soap opera The Newcomers for three years. His foray into science fiction began with the Doctor Who serial The Space Museum in 1965; Bulloch later returned to the series for 1973’s The Time Warrior. He took on the iconic role of Boba Fett in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back, the second proper Star Wars movie and fifth in the episodic chronology, donning the space bounty hunter’s robotic suit. He returned in 1983’s Return of the Jedi. Bulloch did not voice the character, however — Jason Wingreen first provided the voice, before Temuera Morrison (who originated Fett’s son Jango) did in updated versions.

Around the time of his Star Wars role, Bulloch also played small roles in three James Bond films: first as a submarine crew member in 1977’s The Spy Who Loved Me, then as Q’s assistant Smithers in follow-ups For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy. After playing Fett, he continued to act in British TV series such as Robin of Sherwood and made frequent appearances at Star Wars fan conventions. Bulloch did not go on to play Fett in the Star Wars prequel films, with Daniel Logan taking over the role in Attack of the Clones. “RIP LEGEND ILL NEVER FORGET ALL YOU’VE TAUGHT ME!!” Logan wrote in an Instagram tribute, adding, “MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU ALWAYS.” Bulloch did make a cameo appearance as Captain Colton in 2005’s Revenge of the Sith. Boba Fett, portrayed by Morrison, recently returned to the screen in the second season of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian.
