DL is on the money though.
Because you're an idiot.
A bullshit false equivalent. There are no measureable advantages that would substantiate the claim. It was a thoughtless and trash comment when made and it remains so. Further, it only encourages a pissing contest of trying to out victim one another. Because black men are more historically advertised as spokespersons for black suffering does not equate to being more privileged. No more than those same men being far more historically victimized by lynchings, underemployment, race based violence, false incarceration, murder, police sanctioned violence, targets of hate groups... etc..etc.. makes them more oppressed.
I know. That's why there's this campaign going around called "Black Boys Rock," and "Black boys Magic," all over the place.Yeah, I think that is true of men across races. It's basically a commentary on patriarchy.
Black women still make less than black men. I don't think we instill black girls with the same self-confidence and sense of potential and leadership ability as we do black boys (which I think is true of every race).
This new talk about black women's place in the Democratic Party is a departure from the norm.
"My ride-or-die." You know that's almost always the woman riding/dying for the man. We live in a culture that just puts men first.
Good. They are literally making it a layup that Dems win those seats at this point.Trump is some Republicans are really making it rough for the Republican candidates in the runoff election in Georgia
Calling out Fox's bullshit - but you work there
Why would I say it if I thought it was bullshit? We've had enough exchanges where I think you should know that's not how I operate. Generally, it is counterproductive to assume bad faith when you don't know it to be true. We just disagree. I'm an open feminist, possibly moreso than anybody else on this board, and I know it isn't a popular position but that is my sincere perspective.

Black boys are/have been an afterthought for a long time.
Are Black women doing the same work as Black men and getting paid less to do the same?
This is the Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania, dude is hilarious.. he stays roasting Republicans since the election was over.
Then, as a feminist, show me this “privilege” that Black men have. We can look at:
Show me in any of the above, or other areas of “human development”, where Black men are a privileged group vis-a-vis Black women or anyone else.
- Education
- Incarceration
- Employment
- Income
- Health
- Life expectancy

The historical data doesnt support ANY of this. In fact, it renders it wholly ridiculous and exposes it as the off the cuff thoughtless nonsense that it was when she originally uttered it. We live under a racial caste system where Black is cemented to bottom status. There is no "white male" equivalent among ANY of us. The comedic irony isnt lost that the original quote comes from a bitch who is rich and famous and worth exponentially more than her inconsequential non descript black male husband.. Despite being largely unremarkable herself.A very productive way to start a dialogue-- indicative of superior intelligence.
First, it's not an equivalency at all. It's a comparison of roles within very different structures. Of course, I and Jemele Hill understand the differences between being a black man and being a white man. But once you eliminate racial differences and you're only looking at black people, it is a helpful analogy to understand and work toward eliminating an unfair hierarchy.
Secondly, the statement is not about trying to out-victim one another. If men kept that paradigm in mind, it would help uplift women. After the George Floyd killing, Van Jones asked white liberals to consider all the ways they metaphorically put boots to the necks of black people. Men should be conscious of everything we do to disempower and marginalize women. All men. The point of Hill's statement is that being a victim yourself does not exempt you from this responsibility.
Democrats need to work up and counter this bullshitSince I'm already talking with Shaka about income, we'll stick to that.
Among the major race and ethnicity groups, median weekly earnings of Blacks ($813) and Hispanics ($785) working full-time jobs were lower than those of Whites ($1,008) and Asians ($1,392). By sex, median weekly earnings for Black men were $869, or 77.5 percent of the median for White men ($1,122). Median earnings for Hispanic men were $823, or 73.4 percent of the median for White men. The difference was less among women, as Black women's median earnings were $768, or 84.4 percent of those for White women ($910), and earnings for Hispanic women were $722, or 79.3 percent of those for White women. Earnings of Asian men ($1,542) and women ($1,224) were higher than those of their White counterparts.
That's gonna have to be taken with women though. We've largely been under a Matriarchy in the Black community since the mid to late 60s. Our women have been groomed to be "strong and independent" for decades much to our detriment, I think. That's a smart question-- As I'm sure you know, a major problem with the Democratic Party's pay inequality argument is that they are comparing all work rather than the same work.
I think that's less relevant to this discussion, though, because I'm not talking about unfair pay practices but purely about the outcome. So if we raise boys to be entrepreneurs and girls to be secretaries, the issue isn't entrepreneurs being paid more to be secretaries but the lesser or narrower expectations of and possibilities present to girls that make them less likely to be entrepreneurs. Budgets are moral documents and our society values men more, across racial groups.
I think Obama's election was more impactful for boys than girls-- more boys were told "Look at him, that could be you." We could highlight 100 other examples. It isn't something usually done with ill will and women can be guilty of it, too. But we don't push girls to aim as high as we do boys.
These agents are trying to engage in "Intelligent conversations" while aligning their thoughts with white folk. Their arguments mirrors white folks and always leaves you feeling the same way you do when you hear white folk trying to discuss race.
It sounds ghei, in fact, looking at this feed...
I don't think this will last. They'll certainly circle their wagons around those seats in the coming days.Good. They are literally making it a layup that Dems win those seats at this point.
I am starting to see a division in the democratic party already between liberals and progressives.
Joe has his work cut out.
Interesting thread.
