Nothing wrong with asking for your worth. It is the manner in which you do is the issue. My issue is the way she went about it.
I’m all about a person getting your worth, but one can’t compare their salary/pay to those in the top of their field.

According to the terms presented in the contract Netflix offered Mo’Nique, it would own the copyright of the program and control all exhibition rights. It would own all audio rights. And basically? It would own Mo’Nique.
For 12 months after the special premiered, Mo’Nique would not be allowed to tape or negotiate another comedy special with anyone else. When that 12 months was up, Netflix would have dibs on her next comedy special, and she would be able to do one with someone else (HBO, for example) only if Netflix passed first.
For 24 months after the special premiered, Mo’Nique would not be able to crack any of the jokes she did in the Netflix special anywhere else, and when the 24 months were up—Netflix would have first dibs on those jokes, too.

I own two businesses and would not fuck with Mo'Nique. There are just ways that you do business. If she would have came to the table with contracts from other places that paid her what she asked of Netflix then we could have a conversation.
Who in their right mind was going to pay Mo'Nique 20 million for a Netflix special? She burnt a bridge with Tyler Perry. He is the most generous person in the industry.
She was not locked in for 2 years. Netflix has a bumper payout. If your first series or show does well, they increase your pay based on the response.
Having the right of refusal basically writes your own check and favored Mo'nique. If the Netflix show was a success and HBO offered her 20 million. Either Netflix would have to pay up or decline which would make her a free agent to sign with anyone.
