Not true. We've had seven presidents in the last 40 years. Four of them started wars (Reagan, Bush senior, Clinton, Bush jr.) And three of them did not (Carter, Obama, Trump).

That's not "damn near every president in the last 40 years" it's slightly more than half.

Also, Trump would have almost nothing to gain by going to war with the Middle East because unlike the Bushes he's not an oil man. His main businesses are real estate, entertainment, and hospitality. Industries that are a lot more profitable during peacetime.
