Joss Whedon Accused of ‘Abusive’ Behavior by Justice League Star Ray Fisher

Justice League star Ray Fisher, who portrayed Victor Stone (a.k.a. Cyborg) in the film, is accusing director Joss Whedon of inappropriate workplace behavior. In a tweet posted on July 1, Fisher claimed that Whedon’s “on-set treatment” of the Justice League cast and crew “was gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable,” and that Whedon was “enabled in many ways” by producers Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. Fisher didn’t expound on specific instances of Whedon’s alleged misconduct, but previously tweeted on June 29 that he “forcefully retracts every bit” of a comment he made at a Comic-Con panel that asserted how Whedon was a “great guy” and a “good person to come in and finish up” the film after Zack Snyder’s departure. Back in 2017, Whedon replaced Snyder as Justice League’s director, when Snyder chose to step down from the gig in the wake of a family tragedy. A “Snyder Cut” of the film will soon be released due to overwhelming fan demand.

This is the first instance of a Justice League actor accusing Whedon of on-set misconduct. Previously, Whedon’s ex-wife, Kai Cole, wrote an open letter in 2017 that detailed his history of “feminist hypocrisy,” outlining how his numerous affairs led to the demise of their marriage. “Now that it is finally public, I want to let women know that he is not who he pretends to be,” Cole wrote. “I want the people who worship him to know he is human, and the organizations giving him awards for his feminist work, to think twice in the future about honoring a man who does not practice what he preaches.”

Why now. Could of said this 3 years ago.

Like an ex or a friend who tells you how much they want to be with you. Now you are married with kids and they are in a bad relationship. Why now.

Ok so this is the explanation I'm hearing

This kid ain't say nothing BEFORE because he was instructed to be positive during the press tour...

He didn't want to hurt his career

But apparently NOW with the snyder cut coming and hollywood trying to make amends

He felt he could finally speak his "truth"

Whatever that is

‘Justice League’ Investigation: Ray Fisher Fires Back At Warner Bros.

UPDATE: Ray Fisher has responded to a statement from Warner Bros. over his complaints about “gross, abusive” conduct on the set of Justice League. Fisher appeared as “Cyborg” in the film.

On Friday, the studio issued a statement claiming that Fisher was not responding to an investigator looking into his allegations that film director Joss Whedon was abusive.

Fisher tweeted out his reply this morning.

“Thank you all for the support and for seeing through @wbpictures desperate and scattershot attempt to discredit me to continue protecting those in power. I met with the investigator via Zoom on Aug 26th.

EARLIER: Warner Bros. issued a statement tonight regarding an investigation it conducted on the Justice League production after complaints were aired by Ray Fisher, who played “Cyborg” in the film.

The investigation stems from Fisher’s tweet back on July 1, alleging director Joss Whedon’s “gross, abusive” conduct on set. Whedon stepped in to finish directing Justice League when director Zack Snyder left the production because of a family tragedy.

“Joss Whedon’s on-set treatment of the cast and crew of Justice League was gross, abusive, unprofessional and completely unacceptable. He was enabled, in many ways, by Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. Accountability>Entertainment,” Fisher tweeted back in July.

Today, Fisher tweeted out “So you can better understand how deep this goes: After speaking out about Justice League, I received a phone call from the President of DC Films wherein he attempted to throw Joss Whedon and Jon Berg under the bus in hopes that I would relent on Geoff Johns. I will not. A>E”

In response to Fisher indicating that he spoke with DC Films Boss Walter Hamada in his tweet, Warner Bros. came to the full defense of the executive, and clarified their situation with the Cyborg actor: Despite the studio bringing in a third party independent investigator to research what went sideways with the actor during the production of Justice League, “to date, Mr. Fisher has declined to speak to the investigator” according to a studio spokesperson tonight.

A Warner Bros. spokesperson issued the following statement tonight on behalf of the company:

“In July, Ray Fisher’s representatives asked DC Films President Walter Hamada to talk to Mr. Fisher about his concerns during the production of Justice League. The two had previously spoken when Mr. Hamada asked him to reprise his role as Cyborg in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Flash movie, together with other members of the Justice League.

“In their July conversation, Mr. Fisher recounted disagreements he’d had with the film’s creative team regarding his portrayal of Cyborg, and complained that his suggested script revisions were not adopted. Mr. Hamada explained that creative differences are a normal part of the production process, and that a film’s writer/director ultimately has to be in charge of these matters.

“Notably, Mr. Hamada also told Mr. Fisher that he would elevate his concerns to WarnerMedia so they could conduct an investigation. At no time did Mr. Hamada ever “throw anyone under the bus,” as Mr. Fisher has falsely claimed, or render any judgments about the Justice League production, in which Mr. Hamada had no involvement, since filming occurred before Mr. Hamada was elevated to his current position.

” While Mr. Fisher never alleged any actionable misconduct against him, WarnerMedia nonetheless initiated an investigation into the concerns he’d raised about his character’s portrayal. Still not satisfied, Mr. Fisher insisted that WarnerMedia hire an independent third party investigator.

“This investigator has attempted multiple times to meet with Mr. Fisher to discuss his concerns but, to date, Mr. Fisher has declined to speak to the investigator. Warner Bros. remains committed to accountability and to the well-being of every cast and crew member on each of its productions. It also remains committed to investigating any specific and credible allegation of misconduct, which thus far Mr. Fisher has failed to provide.”

WarnerMedia Investigating ‘Justice League’ Production Following Ray Fisher’s Comments

WB
Deadline has confirmed that WarnerMedia has had an ongoing investigation being conducted on the Justice League production ever since Cyborg star Ray Fisher tweeted back on July 1 about director Joss Whedon’s “gross, abusive” conduct on set. By no means was the investigation recently launched, I understand, despite Fisher’s recent tweets today which we expound on below.

This was alarming news considering Fisher’s thumbs up about Whedon at 2017 Comic-Con. The actor tweeted out that video footage of himself saying “I’d like to take a moment and forcefully retract every bit of this statement.”

A source with knowledge at the studio tells us that no findings have been made yet, and to preserve the integrity of the investigation, the company will not conduct its investigation in the public sphere. There’s no specific timeline to the investigation, other than being thorough and efficient. WarnerMedia has not pre-judged Joss Whedon or Justice League producers Geoff Johns, or Jon Berg, and I hear that the inquiry is not limited to them.

Today, Fisher tweeted, “After 5 weeks of interviews with various cast/crew, @WarnerMedia as officially launched an independent third-party investigation to get to the heart of the toxic and abusive work environment created during Justice League reshoots. This is a MASSIVE step forward!”

He continued, “I believe this investigation will show that Geoff Johns, Joss Whedon, Jon Berg (and others) grossly abused their power during the uncertainty of AT&T’s merger with Time Warner.”

Whedon had stepped in to finish directing Justice League when director Zack Snyder stepped away from production due to a family tragedy back in late 2016. Snyder, responding to fans, is assembling a four-hour-plus cut of the film which will drop on HBO Max next year, and which he’ll talk about this Saturday at the studio’s DC Fandome. Fisher’s comments about Justice League couldn’t come at a worse time for WarnerMedia as they’re just beginning to bang the drum again on this movie (intended in many ways to be their Avengers), which largely fizzled at the box office grossing $682.6M WW off a $300M production cost.

Jason Momoa, Ray FisherMega
Jason Momoa has waded into the fracas between his Justice League co-star Ray Fisher and Warner Bros., siding with the former today on Instagram, posting “#IStandWithRayFisher.”

Jason Momoa Instagram

Fisher’s fight with Warner Bros. escalated on Friday after the Cyborg actor posted on Twitter, “So you can better understand how deep this goes: After speaking out about Justice League, I received a phone call from the President of DC Films wherein he attempted to throw Joss Whedon and Jon Berg under the bus in hopes that I would relent on Geoff Johns. I will not. A>E”.

Warner Bros. fired back late Friday night with their own lengthy response to that, which we expound on further down.

Now, for those who haven’t been following the story, all of this goes back to Fisher’s social media rant on July 1 where he called out Joss Whedon (who stepped in to take over directing Justice League from Zack Snyder), saying his “on-set treatment of the cast and crew of Justice League was gross, abusive, unprofessional and completely unacceptable. He was enabled, in many ways, by Geoff Johns and Jon Berg.
Accountability>Entertainment.” No other specifics were given as to how Whedon behaved or what Fisher was specifically wrought about. In the wake of Fisher’s social media posts, WarnerMedia told the press that they opened an investigation to learn about what went wrong during Justice League.

Soon after Fisher’s Friday post, Warner Bros. specified that Fisher spoke with DC Films boss Walter Hamada, and that the actor had disagreements with the Justice League creative team over his portrayal of Cyborg. Also, Hamada didn’t “throw anyone under the bus” as Justice League occurred before he was appointed DC Films Head. In addition, the studio said that they met Fisher’s demand and hired a third-party investigator, but the actor still hadn’t met with the rep after multiple attempts.

Fisher then slammed Warners on Twitter Saturday saying he did in fact meet with an investigator via Zoom on Aug. 26, (even including a note to his team and SAG-AFTRA in his post), while exclaiming, “Thank you all for the support and for seeing through @wbpictures desperate and scattershot attempt to discredit me to continue protecting those in power.”

More to Warner’s point, Fisher hadn’t spoken fully with the investigator in detail, something the actor admitted in his Saturday tweet in which he told his team “had to end the interview early before going into detail with him…He tried to keep me on the line, but I told him I would need to consult my team before proceeding.”

Fisher will be seen again in additional scenes of Zack Snyder’s Justice League next year on HBO Max. Fisher was also in talks with Hamada to reprise his Cyborg role in the upcoming Flash movie.

Momoa’s post, which you can see above, and which was reposted by Fisher on Twitter, can be seen in the actor’s (@prideofgypsies) Instagram daily story, which you can access by clicking on the actor’s face. That daily feed is only up for 24 hours. The post is not included in Momoa’s main Instagram river.

Is CRAZY

Now I don;t know if Zack Snyder DESERVES all this love, but I DO believe Cyborg story about the execs doing all that bullsh*t to keep their bonuses

do you think we gonna hear even MORE stories like this going forward?

and do you think the public is PREPARED to deal with WHO and WHAT is revealed?

Public won't care about this shit unless he physically hurt someone. Or did that shit to Gadot.

No lol.
Credit for standing up for what's right is being overvalued because the bar is so low.

C'mon if NONE of the OTHER cast mates can;t even do THAT?

Then I think it makes what Jason did mean more just by comparison (yes I realize that is pathetic but sadly that is what we at right now in society)

You REALLY think Boyega and Cyborg gonna SURVIVE all this unscathed?

I mean like I said it's overvalued. It's valued he's just not a hero for doing the right thing lol.

I don't really know if they'll go unscathed or not but its worth it.
