Skip & Shannon on Carmelo's idea of prospects attending historically black universities | UNDISPUTED

NBA players should have capitalized that year they played summer games at HBCUS. Show them we can start our own league...the fans show up for the PLAYER not the UNIFORM now.

I hate how they use our talent to enrich themselves and other cacs while disrespecting us. The players have the power to change this.
I hate it too, but we also have to help and empower these kids and their families coming out of high school. Some just can't afford to let their families struggle and get that under the table money. If some of the hbcus pull away top athletes they need to make sure their compliance system is airtight because it's then the NCAA that's gonna fuck with them nonstop. We also need representative power within the NCAA as well.

Where there is football there is under the table money and jobs for their peeps. I didn't have to want for anything when I was on the yard. The same will be true for my oldest when he touch down this fall. I turned down full rides to Auburn, Miss State, and LSU for Southern and it was the best decision I ever made. He turned down UofH, Texas Luthern, Trinity, and Sam Houston. I have never been so proud when he said he was going to the yard. He will be in good hands.

Props to you and yours. Absolutely will be under the table money and jobs, that's why i plugged the NCAA because their connections to these big universities' success will not be turned around without a fight. In other words, I can see the NCAA applying additional oversight and scrutiny to hbcus and their practices, because within a white supremacist system, they will bend and break their own rules to say that you broke the rules. Mark my words, the NCAA and these white racist coaches will immediately claim some type of inappropriateness and integrity issues with the "recruiting tactics" of HBCUS. We have to break into that structure as well. It's not just money for the NCAA, it's power over us.

Thanks fam. However, NCAA haven't done black schools any favors. There are only a few that haven't been co-opted by white schools. LSU been trying to get rid of Southern for the last decade. They even went so far to add a community college that zapped half of our enrollment and yet we still stand strong. We can handle the scrutiny. They have been at us, going from 99 to 100 degrees is relative. SU for example has been living under 99 degrees for a decade and we continue to prosper.

There will be a backlash from the cac schools but in the end, I think it will be worth it.

We agree. I'm working on being clear when i write, my apologies if that didn't come across. I'll add that we need to get in the NCAA hierarchy as well. It's time. And my homie played and graduated from Southern. I still haven't made a Bayou classic. Need to.

Good shit fam. I wasn't coming at you. You really need to attend the classic. Unfortunately, it won't be in New Orleans this year because of the Rona. Last year it was off the chain, damn near 70k was in attendance. What year did he play?

LSU hates the classic because it gets front-page coverage. Look at these cowardly hateful comments from some of the cacs.

Hate

They stay at us fam.

Historically, Grambling State and Southern have arguably had the two most successful football teams in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Through the 2018 season Grambling has more SWAC football titles than any other school (25, not including their vacated 1975 title); Southern has the second most with 19. Grambling and SU also have more black national titles than any other SWAC schools; as of 2017 Grambling has the second most in the entire country with 15 total, while SU has the fourth most at the FCS-level (11). The two schools have also represented the SWAC in 13 of the 15 Pelican, Heritage, and Celebration bowls that have been held. Through 2015 Florida A&M of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference was the only FCS-level HBCU school with more football wins (588) than Southern (578) or Grambling (565).[12] However both Grambling and Southern were ordered by the NCAA to vacate wins in multiple sports due to the questionable eligibility of hundreds of their student athletes between 2010 and 2015.[13][14] It is not immediately clear just which Grambling football games are effected by these rulings, but the NCAA did make a special point to specify that Grambling's 2011 season record and championships remain fully intact;[13] games played between 2012 and 2015, however, appear to remain possible candidates for being vacated.[15] Southern, meanwhile, had to vacate all of its 2013 and 2014 wins, at the very least.[1]

For high school going to college the parents have a lot of say and should be ushering them more to HBCU

True. I left the decision in my son's hands. I was relieved that he went SU. A couple of my potnahs that played with me sent their kids to cac schools. One went to LSU, didn't get any playing time, transferred to a juco, won the natty, and transferred to Mizzou of all places.

Carmelo has a son, his banana boat buddies have sons that are 4 and 5 star recruits, why don’t they all start it off and commit to Morehouse or Howard? Yea, I bet these rich niggas don’t want their sons to go, but expect all these other black folk to heed their advice so their rich families can give us thumbs up from afar and pretend like they had an impact...FOH Melo

My daughter is ranked in softball but I she says she doesn’t want to do college softball. But she’s going to Howard.

remember what Kellen Winslow did to his on air?

It could change a lot

It would change some things. But the system is the system. Changing the skin color of the people up top won't change the end result.

Young getting taken advantage of would still be prevalent unfortunately.

Boosters and "friends of the program" will still have a lot of say in the lives of those young men.

That's what I was gonna say. Its easy to talk that talk and tell other people what they should do but none of them gonna let their kids do that shit. And they should. If they truly want to change the landscape of College basketball then they gotta let their kids do it. All it takes is one. A lot of these dudes in AAU all play each other and are all friends at some point.
