A malarial drug, hydroxychloroquine, is being used to treat COVID-19 worldwide with phenomenal success. Yet in America, it has been banned by governors and its effectiveness denied by Dr. Anthony Fauci and Big Pharma.

Hydroxychloroquin is a treatment after you have been infected. A vaccine prevents infection. Nobody is looking for treatments to a virus homie. Patient drugs make money. A $100 vs a generic for $3? Now, to be fully transparent, the reason I am so knowledgeable about this subject is because I completed a fellowship with Deloitte a couple of years ago and one of my projects was with Lupan. One of the largest producers of generic drugs.

You have to understand that pharmaceutical companies are businesses first. Noone would make generic drugs if there was no money in it. All those "viagra" knockoff commercials you see are generics. Billions just off of that one product.

So, how do generics make money? Simple. The highest expense for pharmaceutical companies is R&D. Close to a billion from start to finish. Once a drug is off patent, companies like Mylan and Lupan can reproduce the formula with little to no R&D cost. No trials and a super short FDA approval schedule. They then sell to Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid etc, but most importantly, they sell to hospitals globally. Africa, India, Asia, etc. In many cases, these companies become the only one producing a certain drug. Like right now, Mylan is the only company making hydroxychloroquin. It is being sold for as much as $650 per 60 tablets.

Remember:

Daraprim, was acquired by Turing Pharmaceuticals, run by Martin Shkreli. Turing immediately raised the price to $750 a tablet from $13.50. Now, before anyone say he got in trouble, it is important to know that the price still has not returned to $13.50. Generics make this play all the time.

Your claim that Walgreen's was making money from generic drugs is false. When in fact they are closing stores losing money. Now you're running with CVS trying to make a case. CVS was hit with a class action lawsuit for over charging for generic drugs. The fact that they were overcharging proves there was no money to be made selling cheap generics. The money is in Patented drugs. Once, it expires and everyone can make cheap generics the prices fall tremendously. That's a fact homie.
