It’s time for FedEx (FDX) founder and CEO Fred Smith, 75, to broker a deal for his struggling logistics baby as his final act in one major American success story.
The most ideal homes for FedEx you ask? Try Warren Buffett’s industrial-focused Berkshire Hathaway (BRK-A, BRK-B) or the world’s largest retailer Walmart (WMT), according to two top strategists.
“I believe Warren Buffett will acquire Federal Express [in 2020],” said Seabreeze Partners Capital Management’s Doug Kass, who is a long-time Buffett watcher, on Yahoo Finance’s The First Trade. That certainly makes a great deal of sense for several reasons.
For starters, FedEx is a business Buffett could easily understand (always important for Buffett in an acquisition). FedEx would give Buffett even more scale in the transport space, where he already enjoys a stronghold in rails with Burlington Northern.
The logistics company has a wide moat around its business with a fleet of transport vehicles and distribution centers globally.
And above all else, these ingredients to FedEx’s business could probably be had by Buffett on the cheap (Buffett loves this, too).
Due to FedEx’s troubles the last two years in adapting to the shift to digital commerce, the stock has plunged 40%. FedEx stock trades at a 30% discount to the broader transport sector on a price-to-earnings multiple basis, according to Bloomberg data. The stock currently only trades on par with its historical P/E multiple of 12.5 times despite its compelling business model and investments it has made to speed up service in recent years.
The further icing on the cake here: Buffett is sitting on $130 billion in cash (and growing) that he has said repeatedly he wants to put to use on an “elephant”-sized acquisition. The problem has been finding a target at a great price — FedEx fits that bill.
But if Buffett isn’t keen on FedEx, Walmart should consider stepping up.
“A Walmart/FedEx acquisition makes just as much sense,” thinks Michael Lee Strategy chief strategist Michael Lee.

Lee is onto something with that call, too.
The world’s largest retailer is no slouch to operating a complex transport network, so FedEx could likely be successfully integrated. Further, FedEx would give Walmart a massively widened lead versus Amazon to compete for same-day delivery for goods and services.
Ultimately, the decision on whether to sell FedEx will be heavily influenced by Smith. He holds an outsized presence at FedEx for obvious reasons. Smith also owns about 7.5% of FedEx’s outstanding shares.

I wrote Warren Buffett a few letters. I actually thought that he would reparation some of that money to black self help and independence. They owe us.
Even Dr. King after meeting with Elijah Muhammad wised up that integration was a mistake. Some of us will empower ourselves before we keep building on the foundation of white power. Dr. King exposed to his followers that while they was fighting for integration America was giving away millions of acres of land to their white immigrants. He stated that when we go to Washington we are coming to get our check. They moved to hurry up and kill him after that.
Our ancestors fought bleed and died to see their empire materialize. They have nothing to say to some of us except here is what is really owed to us and to give truth a chance to breath free in this evil empire.

Walmart sell a lot of stuff that is actually manufactured by the klan. So far only those with the mark of the beast have been able to buy, sell and trade. Actually the clothes Larry Hoover and his family were making would have been popular all over the state if he was not attacked by the government. They can see they locked him up for committing crimes. They said the same thing when they kept locking Dr. King up. But the real reason they was locking him up and then stopping the philosophy of growth and development by moving him to a super max. Chop off the head and the body does not know where to go.

You funny but before it is all over with we will have to go toe to toe with them for survival. South Africa already know they are not getting their country back until that happens. The first people in America were black not no Indians. All over the earth there is proof that blacks were there before any other race. What we have is brainwashing. I guess you believe their theory that they came out of caves and civilized themselves then started civilizing the world. How do animals think they civilized humans.
You can say that they do not owe us but brothers like me they try to kill or keep us locked away in prisons. We are considered hard headed.
Our true wages in life are actually held back in ways that would shock you. There are certain questions that we never asked about energy. In fact the world's best kept secret is that our health is our only real wealth. Anything else is borrowed including our lives. But truth is kept out of the white man's world. Their empire was not even created by what they call work or teach the public what work is. They rob, steal, kill, and then build their empire to train and program you to go thru them and their system for your survival.
But yea I wrote that devil and only someone asleep would have said what you said. Every day our death or imprisonment is plotted. But their growth and development is guaranteed.

Depends......Walmart truck drivers are the highest paid truck drivers in the U.S. and its hard as hell to get on.

No..... there was never ever a black race or black people. Native Americans & moors. Black is not a race or ethnicity.

It is the truth. It is not like they are going to advertise this. Money is money and we are not building with ours. But for you to say that is like most people that are just trying to be comfortable on the plantation with no desire to leave at all. It is not like the companies that are advertise that they are. But it is the same with other areas of things and jobs. You may not be aware of it.

Original people. The dude that wrote the book ring makers of Saturn said they had observed a mothership and it was being driven by 7 or 9 foot black men real humans that were real black. Something is going on and they are very serious about killing it and trying to turn it into only people's imagination. They can do this if they succeed in destroying it and getting rid of all evidence of it.
The story of Jesus was seen by to many people but they took over the story and to this day still master in narrating the what happened. The garden had only one race of people, blacks. But we are suppose to represent the story other people tell about it.
There is not way you can take two whites and make a brown less known a black. But you can take two blacks and make every other color there is.

Walmart won’t acquire FedEx because some FedEx facilities are Union.

Walmart is already at war with Teamsters trying to unionize the Walmart truck fleet. Walmart don’t want the headache of FedEx.

If anybody is open to purchasing and benefiting from FedEx would be Amazon.

UPS would benefit big time acquiring FedEx being FedEx has been a thorn in their side since that company started.

No Fedex facility is union....the only Fedex employees that are union are the pilots. Fred Smith is staunchly anti union and the company spends millions on union busting tactics. UPS is union.

Other people had been writing him. He had this thing about helping people start businesses. They got web sites that do the same. What I am doing and my goals I guess the only real help will be myself. If we have millions or homeless people and steady packing the jails and prisons maybe the people with all this money and wealth are only dreaming. So it is alright to have it if they control you or successfully put you to sleep. There seems to be no reason to me why people that do not live like you have to make all the decisions for you. There is something about that in order to survive you got to be controlled.
Truth sounds like foolishness to those that have never been exposed to it. So Louis Koo your sign and your gifs are strange. And if I think this is Satan's world I would be stupid not to change that. And I am quite sure Warren Buffett never had anything like that in mind. He got to where he is at by being a part of Satan but his soul could have been redeemed by certain moves. The tables will turn I know this for a fact.

I finally read some of this. In order to learn the in's and out's of business you got to first get started. They have been in this for a while. I know the in's and out's of what I do. The big money and moves can only come when you finally get the money to make those moves.
The post offices were talking about having to be open 5 days a week instead of 6. And they at one time was talking about closing a lot of the post offices or something to that extent. With so many people shopping online now and some still use usps they should have been making more money instead of less. Some of their mail go thru ups then makes it to them, some don't. In a lot of companies the money is steady moving up the ladder with retirement plans and stuff. And to make up for that it is less for those down the ladder.
How did Warren Buffet get started. Most of us know how walmart started. Damn kids inherited billions when their father died. Some of walmart changes started taking place then.
One dude on here said I sounded real stupid when I said that some of their products are made by the klan. My thing is that I though everybody already knew this. All these different companies and the money that got them started. How do people know where the money to start some of these companies come from. In the past there have been a very few that were exposed. But people do not care who made what especially if they are just consumers and have no intention of trying to be producers. Shit some of the doctors, dentist, and others are the same. We watched a grand wizard expose that he was running for governor and won. David Duke is not the only one that changed with time and put up the robe for a business suit. This country was actually build on disguise and illusions.

It's weird some are...some are not. I did a google search and each facility seems to individually decide if they want to join or keep the union. The independent contractors will be screwed.

FedEx Freight Drivers Vote for Decertification from Union
July 7, 2017
On July 7, 2017, city and road drivers at the FedEx Freight service center in Charlotte, North Carolina voted to decertify the Teamsters union as their bargaining representative. FedEx Freight respects the right of our team members to decide for themselves if they want to be part of a union. We are pleased with these results and continue to believe that our thriving, competitive work environment provides a more flexible, team-oriented, and customer-focused work model than the union can offer. These principles are the core of our company’s success and form the foundation of unparalleled service that we deliver daily to our customers.

Similarly, after voting in favor of union representation in 2014, city and road drivers at the FedEx Freight service center in Croydon, Pennsylvania have recently filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) seeking to decertify the Teamsters union as their bargaining representative. A decertification election date has been set for July 19.

FedEx Freight Drivers Reject Teamsters in Pennsylvania
July 19, 2017
MEMPHIS, Tenn., July 19, 2017 – FedEx Freight, the industry leader in less-than-truckload transportation, and a subsidiary of FedEx Corp (NYSE: FDX), announced that city and road drivers in Croydon, Pa., voted to decertify the Teamsters union as their bargaining representative. These election results come less than two weeks after drivers at the FedEx Freight location in Charlotte, N.C., also voted the Teamsters union out.

“FedEx is a great place to work and we are recognized around the world for our strong culture,” said Michael Gee, service center manager in Croydon. “Our drivers recognize that we are a stronger, more cohesive company without a union.”

Bill Agnew, service center manager in Charlotte, added, “We are proud of all the people who work at FedEx Freight and their commitment to providing outstanding service to our customers. The decertification vote in Charlotte was a vote of confidence in the company and we look forward to working directly with our drivers as we focus on a bright future at FedEx Freight.”

FedEx Freight Workers in California Vote to Keep Union
April 26, 2019, 2:35 PM
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters will maintain a foothold at FedEx Corp. after drivers at a FedEx Freight facility in Stockton, Calif., voted to continue membership in the union.
The final tally was 31votes for the union and 16 votes against. The result will become final when the National Labor Relations Board certifies the election in the next few weeks.
The 50 drivers at the Stockton warehouse are the only remaining unionized FedEx Freight workers in the country, according to the company.
Teamsters Local 439 President Robert Nicewonger cited the strength of the members’ commitment. “The members are extremely strong and they have been for quite some time, naturally,” he said. “I mean this is the only location that’s still union, so they’re fairly self-sufficient.”
A FedEx spokesman didn’t immediately return a request for comment after the vote, but beforehand, said the company welcomed the election.
“While FedEx Freight respects the right of our team members to decide for themselves if they want to be part of a union, we are pleased with this development and continue to believe that our thriving, competitive work environment provides a more flexible, team-oriented and customer-focused work model than the union can offer,” company spokesman Jonathan Lyons said in a statement.
The election offers some relief for the Teamsters after the union failed to fend off two prior FedEx Freight decertifications in Pennsylvania and North Carolina in 2017.
The Teamsters represent about 250,000 UPS package workers as well as nearly 11,000 UPS Freight employees. But the union has faced substantial difficulty organizing FedEx workers.

FedEx warehouse workers in Canada join union in North America first

VANCOUVER (Reuters) - Workers at a FedEx Corp warehouse in western Canada have successfully unionized, the first employees besides pilots at the package delivery company to organize in North America, a local Teamsters union said on Wednesday.
The majority of dock associates at FedEx Freight Canada in Surrey, British Columbia, signed cards with the Teamsters stating they wish to be represented by the union. The Teamsters already represent Canadian workers at rival shippers United Parcel Service Inc and Purolator, a Canadian courier majority owned by Canadian Post Corp.
The Teamsters were certified by the Canada Industrial Relations Board on Monday, the union said.
A spokesman for FedEx Canada was not immediately available for comment.

The 14 laborers, who load and unload trucks, are the first FedEx ground workers to unionize in North America, joining the parcel shipper’s U.S.-based pilots, who are represented by the Air Line Pilots Association. The union touted the victory as an organizing inroad into the Memphis-based company.
FedEx on Wednesday forecast a record holiday season due to the continued rise of online consumer sales and said it would add more than 50,000 seasonal workers to handle the anticipated spike in shipping.
“FedEx is the largest non-union company in North America,” said Stan Hennessy, president of Teamsters Local 31. “With this small success up here in B.C, this will encourage more warehousemen and truck drivers throughout Canada and the U.S. to certify with the union.”

Hennessy said the FedEx workers unionized because of issues with work hours, wages and benefits, which the group will look to address in a first contract. Negotiations could get underway within the next 30 days.
The Teamsters local represents roughly 7,000 private and public sector employees in British Columbia and the Yukon territory.

Drivers May Not Join Union at FedEx Home, Court Rules

Thousands of drivers for the home-delivery subsidiary of the FedEx Corporation do not have the right to join a union because they are independent contractors and not employees, a divided federal appeals court in Washington ruled on Tuesday.
The ruling was FedEx Home’s biggest victory in a series of disputes with the Teamsters union, class-action lawyers and state officials over whether it had misclassified its drivers as contractors rather than employees to deny them various benefits and the right to unionize.
The ruling overturned a decision by the National Labor Relations Board, which had held that these drivers were employees because they were an essential part of FedEx Home’s business. The labor board also said that the company “exercised substantial control” over the performance of the drivers’ functions, noting that they must dress the way the company wants, operate vehicles that meet the company’s specifications and must display the FedEx logo and colors.
In the 2-to-1 ruling, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit concluded that FedEx Home did not have to bargain with the Teamsters even though a majority of drivers at two terminals in Massachusetts had voted overwhelmingly to join that union. FedEx Home, with 4,000 drivers, is a division of FedEx Ground Packaging Systems and delivers packages up to 75 pounds, mainly to residential customers.
The court found that FedEx Home’s drivers have “entrepreneurial potential” and can operate multiple routes and sell routes as well as hire helpers and additional drivers, and therefore should be considered independent contractors.

FedEx Home applauded the ruling. Maury Lane, a company spokesman, said the decision and a recent ruling in Washington State “confirm that FedEx Ground contractors are independent business owners who choose to own and operate their own enterprises as they like.”
Ken Hall, the director of the Teamsters’ package division, criticized the ruling. “We are confident that the decision will not survive review by the full court or by the U.S. Supreme Court,” he said. “We remain committed to those FedEx drivers who have sought the protection of a legitimate collective bargaining agreement to improve their lives.”

In the ruling, Judge Janice Rogers Brown, an appointee of George W. Bush, and Judge Stephen F. Williams, a senior judge appointed by Ronald Reagan, signed the majority opinion. Judge Merrick B. Garland, who was appointed by Bill Clinton, dissented, writing that the drivers should be considered employees.
In his dissent, Judge Garland wrote that the drivers had little “entrepreneurial opportunity,” rarely take advantage of it and stand to make little money from selling their trucks or routes. He also argued that for drivers to hire helpers is hardly entrepreneurial and noted that FedEx Home puts limits on drivers’ ability to sell routes and can freely change their routes.
Lawyers for the plaintiffs voiced concern that the ruling could affect a nationwide class-action suit involving 27,000 FedEx Ground drivers, who accuse the company of misclassifying them as contractors to deny them overtime and health, retirement and other benefits.
Last December, the company agreed to pay $27 million to settle a misclassification lawsuit brought on behalf of 203 drivers in California.
In that suit, a state judge wrote that FedEx Ground had “close to absolute control” over the drivers, adding that the operating agreement they signed was “a brilliantly drafted contract creating the constraints of an employment relationship” disguised in the independent contractor model.

It's weird some are...some are not. I did a google search and each facility seems to individually decide if they want to join or keep the union. The independent contractors will be screwed.

Ok so only 50 (Fedex Freight) drivers at one terminal in Cali and 14 dock workers in Canada are union. That's really a drop in the bucket.......But on the flip side all the pilots of (Fedex) are union.
And just for clarification the different companies operate independently of each other i.e. Fedex Ground, Fedex Express, Fedex Freight and Kinkos if you want to transfer to a different division you have to quit and start all over......They purposely keep the companies separate, thats why its so difficult to get the different drivers to unionize.

Thanks for the clarification.
I was wondering why the union representation on was so scattered.

Thanks for clearing that up. Plus, I forgot California just passed that independent contractor law that may make unionizing a possibility now.

Amazon is anti union as well, and is desperately trying to stave off the unions at their facilities especially after the holiday walk outs / protests. So they could take a shot at FedEx

However, Amazon has its own fleet of Jets and hubs... Jeff knew what the fuck he was doing, he built his own full scale nationwide delivery service in house... Now FedEx would broaden his reach and actually give him more leverage against the USPS.. Since USPS depends on FedEx AND UPS for Priority and Express deliveries.

No Fedex facility is union....the only Fedex employees that are union are the pilots. Fred Smith is staunchly anti union and the company spends millions on union busting tactics. UPS is union.

FedEx's board really fucked over their employees cuz when I see drivers they are pissed... They use some of the same hubs / resources, but are truly trained to be independent separate companies (Ground vs Express... Etc)...

I'm not sure if UPS could secure the merger, anti trust could kick in and with the right (or wrong) failure clauses UPS could end up looking like AT&T after the failed merger with T-mobile... T went from 4th place to damn near 1st place 10 years later thanks to an extra 3Bil and network & technology information from AT&T.

Well i can tell you that 6 years ago they tried to unionize Fedex Freight, and everyday the union busters came with hot dogs and hamburgers for the workers lol. As soon as the union "threat" was over the company went back to screwing the workers over lol. Them same drivers now complaining about long hrs, health bennies cost doubling ect .......lot of them quit and went to UPS.........

There are others that can benefit from acquiring FedEx and have the capital to buy them out along with FedEx debt.

China could be the number one buyer. There is nothing keeping China from acquiring FedEx being its a multi national corporation operating on 6 continents.

There are some international shipping companies that could benefit from FedEx like Maersk, Evergreen, KLine and others.

And there are a couple of large fleet, US Trucking companies that might take the gamble of acquiring FedEx. They are Swift, Heartland Express, Knight and possibly Werner.

Whoever acquires FedEx with its domestic and international terminals, facilities and distribution network is gonna make some serious cheddar no doubt.
