Norman Lears goodtime revamp is disappointing

THERE WERE BETTER GOOD TIMES EPISODES THAN THAT ONE...

They could have done JJ and the Satan Knights and MAD DOG and that was a 2 parter

or JJ and his drug addicted fiance

or Michael and the FBI investigation

Hell the Black Jesus episode

but it seemed like everyone was moving in slow motion...

You picked two episodes that might be controversial in today's landscape

Black Jesus and Michael and the FBI

what I realized when watching this is Ester Rolle and John Amos were great actors cause this was word for word scene for scene and it just didnt connect in any way at all. I watch those old shows sometimes and they are funny engaging and sometimes touching. I remember this episode from the original and it was funny tonite it was cringe worthy. John Amos seemed to be lost a couple times, the new James was not funny and his lines were almost sounded like he was reading cue cards. The only ones who were good were Viola and Pharoah.

pharoah was the worst person to have picked for JJ. John Amos probably could've played his original role perfectly, instead of having to remember new lines.

i enjoyed it for what it was worth...a comedy. like they was trying for a little seriousness but i could tell most was for a decent laugh. the original good times was just raw and depressing and made you fell their pain. james and jj just didn't work for. jj just seemed corny and forced. james was too laid back and chill. that ain't the james we know

Yea the good times was terrible smh. Like someone else said, it seemed like the actors didn't connect or have and flow at all. I really wanted this to be much better than The all in family, all in the family was much better smh.

Yeah i liked the all in the family better..

other episode they could have done...

the one where JJ went to jail on his birthday

the one where james bought a gun

the one where james got 2500 dollars from the failed bank hold up

james and his jackleg preacher friend who offered a job

Florida and the Vita-Brite commercial

The one where Thelma's boyfriend proposed to her and wanted to move to calif.

who the fuck decides these things???:rolleyes2::rolleyes2::rolleyes2::rolleyes2:

Damn I missed it.

I get why they went with the political episode especially with the Trump debacle tonight, BUT damn it sucked. You are right, I was expecting something better and more in line with what you have as alternatives. When I heard Viola Davis was Florida I was expecting them to pick an episode where she shows her acting chops.

This was NOT the episode for that AT ALL. It did seem like slow motion.

The Black Jesus oh Lord would that be even more controversial now I think. With how the cast acted tonight though I'm sure it would have tanked though. JJ and the addicted fiancee probably would be best in that list for everyone. As someone said tonight made me appreciate the original cast even more. They brought a realism to it with humor instead of it looking like a stage play. Again this revamp sucked.

Not might it would be. In this politically correct day of not offending anyone? Although that is EXACTLY why they should have done it because that is what made those shows legendary.

Yeah I was disappointed this crap tonight. Not even Amos could have saved it. You want to get people talking? I know it was a 2 part episode, but DAMN DAMN DAMN with Amos on the show as one of his co-workers would have been shocking as seeing Marla as Florence lol.

The idea was a wash of the re-vamp.

The show will always live on because of what it represents of in that small two bedroom apartment there was love, order and a father & mother that cared more for the wellbeing of their children than any outside force that might try to allure them; Also that just because you're in the ghetto doesn't mean you don't have talent,JJ paintings,Thelma dancing,Micheal is a natural revolusionist/lawyer,Waknowna always stayed fashionable.

For some reason i could see them casting Snoop Dogg as Mad Dog

As for JJ's Fiancee they couldve had Zendaya as Diana with Debbie Allen playing her mother

Was also kind of nice how they did the ABC show promos like how theyd air back in the day(Ernie Anderson soundalike, etc)

I was very disappointed. The only good casting was Tiffany Haddish as Whilona. Her over the top personality was perfect for that. Andre Braugher as James was just about the worst casting you could get. Jay Pharoah as JJ was just pitiful. He was trying way too hard. Viola Davis isn't meant for comedy and that fake gap in her teeth was just distracting. I would love to have seen them do the Borgan's market episode where the family got sick, the episode where James found the money or the one with Girdy's meatloaf where the neighbor was eating dog food.

Viola carried the show. Surprisingly Tiffany wasn't bad, The dude playing Michael did really well. But overall, it was a flop.

there were so many other great episodes they could have chosen...

what they SHOULD do is a whole NEW episode considering the times we're in and how polarising trump is...

James is working a kinda decent job pretty steady and so he's a trump voter and still a crooked alderman supporter

Florida is a school bus driver hates trump and is trying to make sense of the generation gap

Willona is still Willona at the boutique

JJ works at the chicken shack and sides with his father as usual

Michael is black lives matter and ADOS spouting

Thelma sides with her mother and is dating some cat James doesn't approve of

You can bring in Janet Dubois, Jimmy Walker, Bernadette Stanis and Ralph Carter do cameos with lines...

the underlying point being the underlying themes of socio/political issues is STILL the same even tho the show is some 45 years old.

Hell while i'm here THATS the basis of a rebooted Good Times series TODAY..
