HBO Series: Watchmen (2019) (drops 10/20/19) Thread

I thought this show sucked before, Regina King is great, but now this show is awesome. I knew that was going to happen. That towards the end it would pickup. I am going to have to binge watch it again when this season ends. Regina King kept me interested.

exactly.... shit picked up when don johnsons character got lynched...

and when I found out it was the dude from lost runnin this show.. I was like this muthafucka better not pull that lost shit...

but it seems like he learned he tying shit together nicely.. I would be pissed if I sat through a whole season for some bullshit obscure ending...

a brother blowing off klansmens heads.. what awesome imagery...

might be my new sig... lol

Angela might be the new Manthattan......a female goddess.

She does appear to glow blue on the promo posters
as another poster said, I believe that was Manhattan's glow reflected onto her as she looked at him.

That point aside, you could still be right.
I'll admit that your insult is well-targeted.

But "every 'the one' is the one" is oxymoronic. One is singular and you're trying to make it infinite.

Some people's heads are warped from watching too much Disney as children.

Under the theory of "takes one to know one," a love deficit ass nigga such as myself knows well how these Lloyd Christmas guys meet their Mary Swanson and are so starved for love that they can't distinguish it from lust. God forbid the poor fool has a rapport with a woman who he considers to be out of his league.
it wasn't an insult as much as good natured locker room ribbing, I'ma need you to put your gym shorts on and relax, ole comp & lit headass.

Funny irony in your 'trying to make the singular infinite' comment, considering that your exact point was that there is no singular and the implied uber-abundance of potential "the ones" may as well be infinite. But I won't go too meta on you. This is already like John Connor trying to teach Schwarzenegger to act human in T2.

Some people are warped by Disney, some by trauma. One man's convex in another's concave though. Either way, even your addendum sounds hurt like a mf lol. Everybody's glasses aren't your prescription, doggie. Relax a bit maybe.

It could have come from one of the Black writers in the show's writing room, but still, a good catch.

man this shit ragally as a MUHFUCKA

:beat:

I read this is supposed to be a one "season" only self contained story. Pretty much an extended movie or a miniseries type deal.

If they can stick the landing in the last episode I'm ok with that.
things that need to be in the last episode Where did the kids go
Do they transfer his powers
The millennium clock
What’s happens to The smartest man in the world

When you say it like that, it makes me wonder if transferred his powers to the little boy.

somebody explain the post credit scene ...:dunno:

i didnt get it ...

n some of y`all replies long as fuck i cant read all tht shit to c if it`s already been explained...

jus sum it up...lol
The clones were created to revere others. Are they holding Adrian hostage because of abandonment fears from Jon's departure?
As the credits were rolling, you hear the clones asking Adrian if he would stay, and for each "NO"...what the fuck is that noise...what the hell are they doing to him? Smashing tomatoes in his face was NOT the first thing that came to mind. :roflmao:
I'm sure that it was to set up the finale where Adrian escapes Europa and comes crashing to Earth. I wonder if the horseshoe is a key of some sort to an escape hatch.
Could it be that now that Jon/Cal has his memory restored, he has a hand in releasing Adrian before he was transported to the JC Penney of Doom.

Finally caught up and just wow! Anyone staying away because of the blackness or the 2 minutes of gayness is missing out. This shit is amazing and is even better than the prequel and sequel books DC did. And this isn't one of this things that comic fans would think is predictable. Because some things are so out of left field that I just never saw them coming. Not often does that happen.
As for the paradox thing, have none of you ever experienced deja vu? I do randomly at times. Even weirder is that I have also experienced it watching a movie or show that never existed when I first saw it. The bible and Adam and Eve thing is all bullshit. The universe is much bigger than we know and more interesting than we will ever get to know.
Also another thing, the way Keene and Judd played both sides against each other is basically what we deal with now. Meanwhile they have their own agenda going on. If only racist whites (well all white people) could realize that we are all being fucked by those in power.

I am wondering if he is transferring his powers to Hooded Justice. I love this show. I read some YouTube comments of some people pissed off that Dr Manhattan made himself black and that the director/writers should have left the characters alone. I am confused on Ozymandias. In the Watchmen movie, he was like mutant fast and strong, but Dr Manhattan is considered to be the only one with mutant-like powers. I gotta get more into this comic.

Highly trained individual in the comics. And the youtube folks are missing the fact that he is telling us about his past and that he is still white. He asked her to pick a mate.

The movie turned everyone into superheros on some fast and furious shit. The only one who has any abilities is Dr. Manhattan

Watchmen is a very well acted and intriguing series.

My biggest issue is the show's format of just throwing shit out there and having to wait to understand what it means.

There is so much randomness in the show. Like cliffhanger after cliffhanger. It almost becomes a lazy form of writing or some kind of gimmick.

That said, I'm hooked for now, but I doubt I would enjoy this format for several seasons.

Regina King is a hell of an actress. She will certainly win awards for her acting in the show.

I can't think of any other series outside of GoT that generated this much buzz and interaction. I don't know if it's so much as a gimmick as it is a well played, intentional way of getting your attention and keeping you coming back for more...MAINTAINING that level of interest.

They sent out screeners to podcasters and content creators of the entire season in some cases, some got a limited amount of episodes. This helped keep the conversation going with so many Easter eggs to talk about. Comment sections on channels are filled with self-proclaimed sleuths chattering back and forth with their theories and comparing notes. It was feeding itself that way.

Add to that, the Peteypedia page kept hints and clues circulating and that kept the buzz going. I can't think of how many YT channels sprang up with weekly reviews during GoT's first season but The Watchmen has an abundance of them going for a one season series.

It's well acted and written, is filled with cliffhangers that keep you guessing, and we're all hooked. Mission accomplished. I'm with you in that if it went on for more seasons, I'd be mad as fuck, yelling at the TV..."Just cut to the fucking chase man, damn!" :curse::hmm:

I don't know WHO will ultimately share his powers but it's set up for Angela to have access to them. What SHE does with them has yet to be seen. In the bar scene from 39:00 - 40:00 mark Angela declines Dr. Manhattan's dinner invitation until he shows her that he can create life.
He conjured an egg which is, "technically life." She then asks if they'll have children in their decade together and asks...

Are they like, little half-gods?
I would never pass on my abilities to someone without their consent.
So that's a thing you can do?
I suppose I could transfer my Atomic components into some sort of organic material and if someone were to consume it, they would inherit my powers.
So, you can put them in this egg and if I ate it, I could walk on water?
Theoretically, yeah.

Then, at the house when she revives him, he regained his bearing and remembered what happened on the White Night (also being aware that the 7th Kavalry is outside) he immediately went to the pool. When she rushes out to the pool pissed about the kids vanishing...

You need to see me on the pool.
Why?
It's important...for later.

They then flash back to the egg in his hand at the bar while discussing the paradoxes and he decides that he's hungry for waffles from scratch...poof...off to the kitchen.

Watch the eggs, he says.

She didn't catch that at the moment, given the circumstances.

The preview shows her as Sister Night walking into Karnak. How does she get to Antarctica in a timely manner and how can she withstand the subfreezing temperatures?

That's all that was planned. If a different season is made based on the popularity of this one, I think they'd create a new storyline. :dunno:
Oh OK. Makes a little more sense now if this is a one season deal. I thought this was going to be an open ended several season deal w/ the same story line.

You know how I know this has to be good?

The show's almost over & Alan Moore hasn't bitched about it once yet!!!

He must be loving the show...but being Alan Moore, he can't admit that...
yeah I bet he likes it... but he was asked for a comment and said he will never comment on it

Well Pete Peppers shit on my thinking that it was Sister Night going to Karnak. I think he may be one of the Tubers with a little more provided info.

Dr. Manhattan is not omniscient nor omnipotent.

Hes been saying he doesn't know everything the entire time.

He didnt allow himself to be captured.

He couldnt stop it himself from being captured.

The story is not over in the Christian Bible, Jesus the birth and his death was planned / foretold. To be born as a man to die later and to ascend to Heaven, Jesus knew who was going to betray him it could have been stopped, that was not the plan in the larger scheme of things. Dr. Manhattan story lines seems to be similar and to play out to a larger picture.

They are making a lot of Jesus references with Dr. Manhattan...

The writer indicated that Ta-Nehisi Coates Gave him the inspiration to write this series.

In a recent podcast episode of Kevin Smith and Marc Bernardin's Fatman Beyond, Bernardin spoke with Lindelof about his process of creating the series. In the conversation, Lindelof revealed how Coates' Between the World and Meand his Atlantic essay "The Case for Reparations" led him down the path of making the Tulsa Massacre the centerpiece of the series.
"I completely and totally acknowledge that I'm virtue-signaling right now, but...like every white male liberal in Los Angeles, we were all talking about how much Ta-Nehisi Coates we were reading," he said, saying he initially read Between the World and Me because everyone else around him was reading the book.
"I started because I felt like it was the thing that I had to do because I was a progressive and I cared about racial inequality. But then when I read Ta-Nehisi Coates, I got deeply and profoundly affected. It was like religion, and I fell very, very deep."
This led him to read "The Case for Reparations," an experience that he said made him see "the world in an entirely different way after that." In that essay, he learned about the Tulsa Massacre, a piece of history that had been left out of history books for decades.
"I was like, 'What's that?' I'd never heard of it, and I consider myself to be a fairly well-educated person who cares about this stuff," he said. "The more I read about it the more I was amazed at the fact that a) that this had happened and b) that I didn't know that this had happened. So it felt like the initial crime of the destruction of Tulsa in 1921 and what was happening there was horrific, but even more horrific was the idea that it had been kind of erased."
